The two little ones were lifted off the bicycle, and they eagerly ran toward the courtyard.
"Great-Grandma, Grandpa, Grandma, we’re here with Mom!"
The moment Mrs. Qin heard the commotion outside, she hurried out, looking overjoyed.
When she saw her little grandson and granddaughter running toward her, she was absolutely delighted.
"My sweethearts!"
She then looked up and saw her daughter-in-law walking in.
Her face bloomed into a radiant smile.
"Mingxue, you’re here!"
"Mom, I heard from my mother this afternoon that you stopped by the courtyard home. I’m sorry, I was asleep and didn’t know."
"There’s nothing to apologize for. You didn’t sleep well on the train these past few days, so you should be catching up on your sleep now that you’re back. By the way, have you had dinner?"
"I’ve already eaten, Mom. Classes start tomorrow, so I’m going to be busy. That’s why I wanted to come and see everyone now. I hope you, Dad, and Grandma are all in good health!"
"Yes, we’re all doing fine. Let’s not stand here talking. Come on inside. Granny Qin and your dad will be thrilled to see you."
"Okay." Fu Mingxue walked inside.
Hearing their aunt’s voice, Qin Yue and Qin Ruqiao quickly came over to her.
They greeted her politely.
"Hi, Auntie!"
"Hi, Auntie!"
Fu Mingxue smiled as she greeted the two children. "Hi, Yu Yu! Hi, Qiaoqiao! Long time no see. You’ve both grown so much! Our Yu Yu has become such a handsome young man, and Qiaoqiao is such a beautiful little girl!"
The praise made the siblings, Qin Yue and Qin Ruqiao, blush.
"Auntie, thank you for the gifts. My sister and I love them."
They hadn’t expected it. When they got home from school, their grandma told them their aunt had sent presents for them.
If it hadn’t been dinnertime, they would have wanted to run over to their aunt’s house right away.
It was just a shame their aunt didn’t live with them. It would have been so much better if she did.
Fu Mingxue was happy to see that the brother and sister liked their gifts.
"I’m glad you like them!"
"Alright, you can take Hao Hao and Keke to play now. Let the adults talk for a bit."
Qin Yue nodded. "Okay, Grandma!"
He then led the three younger children upstairs to play.
Fu Mingxue greeted Granny Qin and her father-in-law, who had walked over.
"Granny, Dad, I’m back!"
Granny Qin’s face was a web of happy wrinkles as she smiled.
"It’s wonderful to have you back. But you’ve gotten so thin! Has work been especially difficult lately?"
"Granny, could it be that I just look thinner to you? Honestly, I haven’t lost a single pound! And work is the same as always. It’s really not bad!"
Her words made Granny Qin laugh.
Just then, Qin Wenze walked over. "Mingxue."
Fu Mingxue gave him a slight nod. "Wenze."
As soon as she’d said her greeting, Mrs. Qin took her by the hand and had her sit down.
"Come, sit and talk."
Mr. Qin asked her a few questions about her work.
Mrs. Qin, meanwhile, asked about her life outside of work.
The family sat together, chatting.
An hour and a half later, knowing her daughter-in-law needed to take the two children home, Mrs. Qin urged her, "Mingxue, you should come over again when you have more time to rest. It’s getting late, so you should take the children back now. Oh, have Wenze drive you—"
Fu Mingxue didn’t want to trouble her brother-in-law.
"Mom, it’s not far at all. It’s just a few minutes on my bike, so there’s no need to trouble Wenze. I’ll get the kids to come down, and we’ll be on our way."
Mrs. Qin thought for a moment, then nodded. "Alright, then."
She asked Qin Wenze to go call the two children down.
"You can ride the tricycle back tomorrow."
"Okay, Mom. We’ll get going, then."
