Han Ruochen felt furious when she thought about how Aunt Xiao wanted her to repeat the same thing she had suffered in her past life. She was angry and upset, but even if she was holding the knife in her hands, she did not dare to swipe it down. It was not worth it. She could spill the blood of these people with a flick of her wrist, but what would be the point of her doing such a thing? She would end up ruining her life for no reason.

Though Han Ruochen had such thoughts in her head, she still did not bring the knife down, scaring Aunt Xiao so much that the woman slumped down on the ground with a thump.

"Ru—Ruochen, you...there is no need for you to be so ruthless. Just listen to me... I... Aunt didn’t mean it. I was not trying to harm you. I... I was only waiting to see—no, I mean, I was just trying to help you." Aunt Xiao was scared silly when she saw the knife in the hands of Han Ruochen. She did not know whether it was because of Han Ruochen’s expression, but it seemed like the woman was determined to kill her or because she was just scared of the momentum that Han Ruochen showed to her just now.

"What kind of help are you trying to show me?" Han Ruochen questioned with a raised eyebrow. "You want me to marry two men and live like a shared wife. Is this how you want to help me? Fourth Aunt, you have a special way of showing off your concern."

Aunt Xiao stammered. She wanted to make some excuses for herself, but she could not come up with one. Seeing this, Chief Xiao was so angry that he wished he could slap his wife awake. What kind of dream was she living in? Did she think that Han Ruochen was easier to deal with? Han Ruochen could even control her mother, who was known for her own violent temper. Even Meng Yunhan was subdued by this girl; who did his wife think she was?

He rushed over to the scene and stood in front of his wife. "Ruochen, don’t...don’t lose your temper for a woman like her. She is a woman with long hair and little knowledge. What does she even know? I promise you, your aunt will never do such a thing again. I will keep an eye on her."

As he finished speaking, he turned and glared at his wife. "Speak up! Why are you staying so quiet?"

"Ye... yes..." Aunt Xiao agreed at once. She did not dare to say anything else; after seeing the good things that Han Ruochen had done, she was worried that the woman would really kill her.

Han Ruochen snorted. However, she also knew when to stop; she pursed her lips and said in a low voice, "Alright, Uncle Xiao. Since you are willing to guarantee it, I will not make any more trouble, but you better ask Aunt Xiao to keep her nose out of my matters, or else I don’t know what I will do."

She knew that she was a bit rude, but at the same time Han Ruochen knew that there was nothing Chief Xiao could say to her. After all, it was his wife who was the one who was in the wrong.

Chief Xiao nodded. Though he was upset that a youngster was acting rude to him, he knew that Han Ruochen was the one who was wronged in this scenario. So even if he was upset, there was nothing he could do.

Of course, Han Ruochen also sensed that the village head was angry, but she didn’t care. She turned on her heel and marched toward her home.

"What you just did... I am afraid that after this, you will surely become famous in the village." Han Xuehan chased after her sister. She looked at Han Ruochen with awe and some exasperation. What was Han Ruochen even thinking? Did she even want to get married or not? Who would be willing to marry her after seeing such a sight?

Han Ruochen rolled her eyes. "Elder sister, do you think that I am dying to get married? If no one is willing to marry me, then it’s alright; there is no need for me to get married."

"What nonsense are you spouting?" Han Xuehan hit her on the back with just the right amount of force. "You are so young. How will you live your life if you don’t get married? As you grow old, you will want someone to stay next to you. How will you spend the rest of your life without someone staying by your side?"

"I can always get a dog. If the only good thing about getting married is getting some company," Han Ruochen said very readily. She was not interested in getting married, not after what she went through at the hands of the Yang family members. She would rather live alone than cause trouble for herself again. Men, after all, were just pure nuisances once they got married.

Han Xuehan: "..."

She was speechless after listening to the good things that were coming out of her sister’s mouth. "Ruochen—"

"Elder sister, I know what I am doing." Han Ruochen was not in a hurry. She was still young and had no desire to marry a man for now, but who knows what would happen in the future? Maybe she would meet someone who could change her mind? As soon as she finished thinking, Zhai Muchen’s face flashed in front of her eyes.

Han Ruochen: "..."

What was she even thinking? No matter how much she earned, there was no chance between her and Zhai Muchen. He was going to become the chief of the army; he would certainly marry someone with a rich background. How could he marry someone like her? And even if Zhai Muchen was willing, would his family be willing? The Zhai family would be crazy to become in-laws with her family!
