"Why!?" Meng Yunhan could not help but shriek, taking a quick step forward; she completely forgot the arrogance that she was showing earlier. "What do you mean it has nothing to do with me? I am Han Yichen’s wife and Han Ruochen’s mother. Whatever money comes into this family, half of it belongs to me."

Old Madam Han listened to her big talk and chuckled darkly. Her lips curled into a dark, mocking sneer. There was no warmth in her eyes nor hesitation as she looked at the self-serving and selfish woman standing before her.

"Half of it?" Old Madam Han scoffed, her voice laced with heavy disdain. "You just said with your own mouth that you never wanted to be part of this family. You claimed Yichen ruined your life and that these children are nothing but a burden you despise. Now that there is money involved, you suddenly remember that you are his wife and the mother of these children?"

Meng Yunhan flushed red with rage and embarrassment, but she refused to back down. Fifty thousand yuan in this day and age was a massive sum of money, and it was enough to change a person’s life, enough for her to live comfortably or even run away to find Yun Xinye. How could she let this old hag keep all of the money to herself?

"That money was earned by my daughter, and I have the right to use it however I want!" Meng Yunhan snarled. She tightened her knuckles as she was afraid that she would end up hurling her fist into the face of the woman. "If you try to cut me off, then I will take this matter to the village chief. I will make sure everyone knows how you abuse your daughter-in-law and steal what is rightfully mine! She is my daughter, and I am still married to her father. I ought to receive her filial piety."

Old Madam Han did not flinch. Instead, she took a slow step closer to Meng Yunhan, her gaze razor-sharp.

"Go ahead," Old Madam Han replied coldly, her voice calm yet terrifyingly firm. "Go to the village chief. If you want, go ahead and tell the entire village. Let them all hear how you refused to feed your injured husband, how you refused to take care of your husband when he was in the hospital and how you just claimed that you have already disowned your own children. And now that you have said such good things, you actually want to shamelessly claim that you want to get a share of the money from your child, whom you have already disowned. Let me hear what the village chief has to say about this matter!"

Meng Yunhan choked on her words, her face turned pale. She knew the villagers already disdained her, and if she tried to ask for their support, then they would definitely not help her out. If Old Madam Han laid out her callous statements in front of the village elders, Meng Yunhan would be embarrassed to death and not only that, she would be ostracised by everyone.

Seeing that Meng Yunhan had fallen silent, Old Madam Han turned her back on her and walked toward the wooden cabinet in the corner of the room.

"This fifty thousand yuan belongs to Ruochen, and she will decide how to use and spend it," Old Madam Han warned; her tone was absolute and unyielding. "Not a single cent will be wasted on an unfilial, heartless woman like you. Starting today, you will have to raise this family just like my son has done it. If you want money, go find it yourself. You are no longer permitted to touch a single penny that belongs to the Han family."

Meng Yunhan stood rooted to the spot, her jaw clenched so tightly that her teeth threatened to shatter. Her heart burned with intense malice as she glared at Old Madam Han. Her mind was already racing as she thought of how to get her hands on the fortune as soon as possible.

"Mom, are you out of your mind?" Han Ziyan reached out and pulled the sleeve of her mother. What was she even doing? They had already planned to steal the money, so why was she making a fuss in front of Old Madam Han? They could easily get their hands on the money, so why was her mother fighting with the old woman? She was even making the entire family dissatisfied with her.

She pulled her behind, her voice trembling with desperate urgency. "Have you forgotten? We don’t need those fifty thousand yuan. So why are you angering Grandmother for no reason?" She then turned to look at Old Madam Han and the rest of the members of the Han family. With a smile that was worse than crying, she said to her, "Grandma, don’t take this matter to heart. Mom is just ...she is just losing her temper with you because you insulted her."

"Ziyan, you step back!" When Meng Yunhan saw that Han Ziyan was apologising to the old woman, she could not help but lose her temper with her as well. "How can you say that you don’t want a share in that sum of money? This sum of money belongs to the entire family, and we also have a share in it! I refuse to let this matter go."

"Mom! Shut up!" Han Ziyan was exasperated and then pulled the woman with her; she was worried that Meng Yunhan would say something even more shocking. Her mother was such a fool! She was clearly and proudly showing off that she was still salivating over the sum of money. What if Han Ruochen moved that sum of money?

Once the two of them were gone, Old Madam Han breathed out heavily. She then turned around and smacked her son on the head with a loud thud. "This is what happens when you marry someone who does not deserve you. Who asked you to take responsibility for that woman? Look at this; instead of feeling grateful, she feels resentful."
