Lu Cheng smiled, his eyes still on Shen Nian.

He was definitely jealous, but he wouldn’t stop Shen Nian from having a normal conversation with someone.

Besides, Lu Cheng glanced at Gu Hengzhi. And while Gu Hengzhi was certainly talking to Shen Nian more than most, Lu Cheng couldn’t detect any ill intentions in his gaze.

That was probably why he could tolerate their conversation. And it was also why he had come to admire Gu Hengzhi all the more.

“I trust Xiao Nian.”

“Of course I know you trust Xiao Nian! But in these situations, isn’t the man the one you should be watching?”

As Chu Yunze spoke, he glanced over at Gu Hengzhi a few more times.

Standing off to the side, Chu Lingxiu overheard Chu Yunze and Lu Cheng’s conversation and couldn’t help but glance over at Shen Nian and Gu Hengzhi as well.

‘Come to think of it, I’ve never really seen Shen Nian have such an in-depth conversation with any man besides Lu Cheng and Chu Yunze.’

‘But I don’t really feel like there’s anything wrong with her interaction with Gu Hengzhi. It’s actually kind of strange!’

Hearing Chu Yunze’s words, Lu Cheng’s gaze finally shifted from Shen Nian to Gu Hengzhi, and his brow furrowed slightly.

‘Now that I think about it, Gu Hengzhi does seem a bit too attentive to Shen Nian. Even if it’s for that young master of the Gu family, his attitude toward her is almost overly friendly.’

‘Besides, from what I know about Gu Hengzhi, he’s probably never been this close with an outsider before. He usually only acts this way with his own family.’

As he considered this, Lu Cheng’s frown deepened, and he started walking over to where Gu Hengzhi and Shen Nian were standing.

“Hengzhi, we don’t get opportunities like this often. How about we head over there for a drink?”

Lu Cheng shot a look at Chu Yunze as he spoke. Taking the hint, Chu Yunze immediately joined in.

“That’s right, we don’t get opportunities like this often. Let’s go have a drink!”

“Alright.”

Gu Hengzhi nodded, accepting Lu Cheng’s invitation.

Shen Nian turned to look at Lu Cheng. ‘Something feels a little off about him suddenly coming over,’ she thought. ‘And this is the first time I’ve ever seen him ask someone to drink with him when we’re out!’

‘Last time I saw him drinking was with his colleagues. This is a banquet with friends… it should be different, right?’

Soon, that feeling of something being off was replaced with anticipation.

‘Her Lu Cheng can hold his own against these wealthy young masters, even at a high-society banquet like this!’

“Xiao Nian, while they go for drinks, let’s go find some refreshments and desserts over here,” Chu Lingxiu said.

“Okay.”

Shen Nian nodded, glanced at Lu Cheng, and then walked off to the side with Chu Lingxiu.

Shen Nian and Chu Lingxiu didn’t stray far. Seeing that Shen Nian was still nearby, Lu Cheng relaxed and began to drink and chat freely with Gu Hengzhi and Chu Yunze.

“My older brother drinks often, but I had no idea Lu Cheng had this side to him! Still, Xiao Nian, the way Lu Cheng gets jealous over you is pretty amusing!”

“Jealous?”

Shen Nian glanced at Chu Lingxiu, then back at Lu Cheng. ‘Was he really jealous just now?’

“Yeah! Lu Cheng was obviously jealous because of Brother Gu! When he saw you and Brother Gu having such a nice chat, his brow was completely furrowed, I’m telling you!”
