"I heard you’re writing a script for the military wives’ play?" Liu Yating asked.

"Even you know about it." Gu Lingling laughed.

This military unit is indeed too small; once something spreads, everyone knows it.

"Yeah, don’t you know you’re considered a celebrity in the unit now?" Liu Yating said, standing by the window and looking outside with a smile, "A lot of people are talking about you."

"I’m sure they’re not saying anything good." Gu Lingling pouted and handed her a peeled orange, "Can you get leave during the New Year? Can you attend Sister Jingmiao’s wedding during New Year?"

"Yes, she asked me to be her bridesmaid, and I agreed." Liu Yating nodded, "And, I haven’t taken any leave this year yet, if you leave late, maybe we can go back together."

As she spoke, her gaze was fixed on the distance, lost in thought.

Gu Lingling walked over to stand by her at the window; the two remained quietly standing there, "Remember the year we went to the mountains to study?"

"How could I forget?" Liu Yating said with a smile, "You all disliked the noisy crowd at the teachers’ event and ran to the mountains, then encountered a snake which scared Lianlian."

Because of that incident, everyone’s bond deepened.

"It’s unexpected that you’re all getting married now." Liu Yating said, smiling.

Gu Lingling knows there’s always been a man in Liu Yating’s heart.

"You know I went to support the border a few years ago, right?" Liu Yating said after a while.

Of course, Gu Lingling knew.

Knowing the harsh conditions there, she sent many supplies to her from Capital City.

"I met him there," Liu Yating said with a fleeting sadness.

Although she didn’t mention who it was, Gu Lingling knew she meant the man in her heart.

"Then what happened?" Gu Lingling asked her.

"He was an exceptionally remarkable man," Liu Yating said, "I’ve never told you, but that winter, I fell into a snow cave while on duty, and he saved me."

In those close-to-death moments, the only person her mind conjured was him.

She thought she must have been hallucinating, so she saw him descend like a hero.

He gave her all the windproof clothing he could and held her to warm her.

She was on the verge of freezing to death; had it not been for him finding her and giving warmth, Liu Yating would no longer be in this world.

"What happened after?" Gu Lingling asked.

"I don’t know." Liu Yating shook her head.

"You don’t know?" Gu Lingling said, shocked, "Wasn’t he your superior?"

"Yes." Liu Yating said this with a self-deprecating smile, "I was unconscious for three days, and when I awoke, he was gone from the unit, and later I was transferred back here."

"You didn’t try to find him later?" Gu Lingling asked.

"I did." Liu Yating chuckled, "How could I give up if I didn’t try to find him?"

Yet, this person vanished as if he had disappeared into thin air.

She never saw him again.

He left just like that.

Left cleanly, without a trace of nostalgia.

Left making her both love and hate him.

Gu Lingling went over to hug her, "Perhaps he had his reasons?"

"I used to think so," Liu Yating leaned on Gu Lingling, "But am I an unreasonable person? Whatever it is, he should have told me."

"Moreover, I’m certain he had feelings for me too."

Otherwise, he wouldn’t have looked at me with such eyes.
