Reborn Rich: Prices Dropped, My Savings Didn't
Chapter 661 - 657: Let’s Break Up
As Randall Jennings listened to Megan Nash, a gentle face surfaced in his mind.
’Jasmine Sterling...’
"Randall."
Randall Jennings came back to his senses and looked at Megan Nash. She hesitated for a moment before saying, "The last time we saw each other was a month ago, wasn’t it?"
Randall Jennings nodded. The Jandon Group was incredibly busy at the end of the year. He hadn’t even had time to attend the opening of Megan Nash’s boutique, only sending an assistant with an opening gift and a flower basket.
Megan Nash was very understanding. She had known for a long time that Randall Jennings would be busy, as the Jandon Group was the leading conglomerate in all of Cathay.
"That’s right," Randall Jennings said. "The New Year is almost here, and my father wants to have a lively get-together at home. That’s why I said I’d come pick you up. Let’s go have dinner at his place today."
Megan Nash looked at Randall Jennings, finding herself slightly lost in a daze.
’He really is charming, incredibly handsome, and exceptionally capable. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say he’s the most perfect man I’ve ever met.’
’But he’s too perfect. It often leaves me feeling dazed, and I’ve never once truly felt like he belonged to me.’
Even though they were less than half a meter apart, that feeling of being so close, yet so far away, persisted.
"Randall, there’s something I want to talk to you about." Megan Nash pulled herself out of her reverie, trying her best to remain calm. "Actually, I was going to tell you on the phone just now, but I decided it would be more appropriate to say it in person."
Randall Jennings watched her, waiting for her to speak.
Megan Nash paused. She had already made up her mind and was resolute, but voicing it was still difficult.
Pursing her lips, she finally said softly, "I think we should break up."
A pang of reluctance brushed past her heart as the words settled in the air.
But it was fleeting. Megan Nash looked up, smiled, and repeated, "I think we should go our separate ways."
Randall Jennings’s expression didn’t show any significant emotional fluctuation. He continued to watch Megan Nash quietly, knowing she wasn’t finished.
"Truthfully, I knew from the beginning that you chose me to appease Mr. Jennings. You were probably willing to date me because you thought I was someone without ambitions and a suitable marriage partner, right?"
"You probably don’t really like me, but I’m still very grateful for the care and responsibility you’ve shown me during this time. At first, even just getting a message from you would make me happy for the entire day."
"I thought I was like that because I liked you, but then I realized that wasn’t it. It was because I was too empty—spiritually empty. So after we got together, you took up most of my life. I had no job and almost no social life. My existence, aside from daily routines, was just you. That’s why I was that way."
"Of course, I do still like you, but my feelings are more like admiration for someone powerful. I look up to you. I worship you!"
"But then I started to get my act together, pulling myself up and starting a new business. After that, the emotional validation I used to get from you slowly diminished. The focus of my life began to shift toward myself, and once it fully shifted, I felt like I had found myself."
"I don’t think I can marry you. I have my own things to do. I remembered why I started studying design in the first place. I need to fulfill my own dreams."
"So, Randall, let’s break up!"
Her final sentence was spoken with both relief and resolve.
After hearing Megan Nash out, Randall Jennings’s first reaction was, surprisingly, a sigh of relief.
Megan Nash was right. He didn’t seem to have romantic feelings for her; he was with her simply because he thought she was a suitable match.
Thinking about it now, it was truly unfair to Megan Nash.
"I’m sorry. I feel I should apologize to you." Faced with Megan Nash’s honesty, Randall Jennings didn’t try to be evasive.
Megan Nash continued to smile and shook her head gently. "There’s no need. Back then, I entered into it willingly. It’s just that I’m not willing anymore. These were all my own choices."
"Megan, a customer is looking for you." Just then, an employee walked to the door and said in a low voice, unconsciously glancing at the man in front of her.
’Is that...?’
’Randall Jennings?’
Megan Nash nodded, then turned to Randall Jennings. "So, I’ll have to trouble you today. You’ll have to face Mr. Jennings’s wrath alone again."
Randall Jennings smiled. "I’m used to it. Why don’t you get back to work? If you ever run into any trouble in the future, you can still call me anytime, okay?"
Megan Nash didn’t refuse. But just as they were about to part, she suddenly looked at Randall Jennings and asked, "Randall, have you ever been in love with a woman?"
Randall Jennings froze, and a face subconsciously appeared in his mind.
But Megan Nash just smiled and shook her head. "I don’t mean anything by it. I was just curious—if Mr. Jennings didn’t pressure you, would you plan on never getting married? You’ll be forty in another two years. If there’s someone you like, you should go for it. If you were the one pursuing them, I don’t think anyone could resist."
Leaving him with those words, Megan Nash turned and went into her store.
Randall Jennings paused for a moment before turning to leave as well.
「Azure Manor, The Jennings Estate」
As soon as Randall Jennings arrived, the old butler, Mr. Ford, came out to greet him. "Second Master, you’re back."
Mr. Ford glanced into the back seat, asking quizzically, "Where is Miss Nash?"
"She didn’t come," Randall Jennings replied, then asked, "Where’s my father?"
"He’s in the living room having tea. The First Master and Third Master are also here."
He walked into the living room, where an antique gramophone was playing a segment of Henan opera. Aside from the old patriarch, no one in the Jennings Family could understand it.
"You’re back, brother!"
Reginald Jennings, the third son of the Jennings Family, saw Randall Jennings walk in and was the first to greet him. He blurted out the same question as Mr. Ford, "Huh? Where’s Megan?"
Randall Jennings glanced at him and retorted, "Where’s your new girlfriend?"
Reginald Jennings deflated, suddenly speechless.
On the sofa, the eldest brother, Matthew Jennings, was massaging their father’s legs. Seeing his younger brother arrive, he said, "Have a seat. We’ll eat once your sister-in-law and Kael get here."
Randall Jennings nodded, walked over to the sofa, and sat down, looking at his father. Before he could speak, the old man launched a preemptive strike, "Didn’t bring her back again. Don’t tell me you and Megan Nash broke up?"
The old patriarch was eighty years old and dressed in a neat and tidy Zhongshan suit. Despite his age, he still possessed the imposing aura of a man who had single-handedly built the Jandon Group into Cathay’s leading conglomerate through years of struggle in the business world.
Everyone in the family was afraid of him.
Except for Randall Jennings.
However, his father was getting old, and Randall Jennings didn’t want him to get angry and harm his health. So, most of the time, Randall humored him. At his father’s urging, he had tried dating a few women, and his relationship with Megan Nash had lasted the longest.
Randall Jennings dodged the question. Watching his older brother massage their father’s legs, he advised, "Dad, you need to be more active day-to-day. You have to keep moving to stay nimble and strong."
In response, his father shot him a cold sneer. "Damn it. At my age, it’s a miracle I even wake up, and you’re telling me to get moving?"
