Chapter 2806: Chapter 2806: Someone Is Calling Me
"And they specifically mentioned Professor Shen." Yu Qi noted, frowning.
"Another key figure we need to investigate." Long Hui stated firmly.
Yu Qi nodded in agreement.
"Bo Ya, scan the area." Yu Qi ordered mentally.
’Yes, Master.’ Bo Ya replied instantly.
Bo Ya immediately activated his scanning ability across the subterranean floors. Several seconds later, his small voice sounded clearly inside Yu Qi’s mind.
’Master, I detected multiple rooms up ahead. There are also several life signs.’ Bo Ya reported.
"How many?" Yu Qi asked.
’Thirty-two people in total. However, I detected unusual energy fluctuations coming from the deepest section.’ Bo Ya stated.
"Unusual energy?" Yu Qi narrowed her eyes.
Yu Qi only needed to turn her head and look at Long Hui. Understanding her silent gesture, Long Hui immediately nodded. They continued forward. As they walked deeper, the surrounding environment gradually changed. The clean white walls vanished, replaced by thick metallic walls engraved with complicated, ancient patterns.
Yu Qi slowed down to take a closer look at the markings.
"These markings..." Yu Qi traced her fingers gently over the patterns.
"They are formations." Long Hui answered after examining the engravings closely.
"Formations?" Yu Qi’s eyes widened slightly in surprise.
"Hmm. They are designed to suppress and conceal high-density energy." Long Hui stated.
Yu Qi immediately became even more alert. Someone powerful from the cultivation world had definitely helped construct this place.
"Bo Ya, can you scan through these walls?" Yu Qi asked.
’It is difficult, Master. The formations are actively interfering with my scanning ability.’ Bo Ya replied with a sigh.
"Alright. Don’t force yourself." Yu Qi said gently, comforting the young spirit. She then turned to Xiaohua. "Xiaohua, can you sense anything?"
Xiaohua closed her eyes and focused. A few seconds later, her expression changed dramatically.
"Master, I can sense something very familiar nearby." Xiaohua said.
"Familiar?" Yu Qi asked, leaning down slightly.
"It is similar to the aura I felt from that plant upstairs." Xiaohua stated with conviction.
"So, your aura is here too?" Yu Qi’s eyes narrowed thoughtfully.
"I am not sure." Xiaohua shook her head, looking slightly confused. "But it feels almost identical."
"Then we need to be extremely careful." Long Hui said, his tone immediately becoming serious.
They continued walking until they arrived at another massive steel door. Unlike the previous doors, this one had no electronic card reader or digital lock. Instead, a strange circular symbol was deeply engraved directly into the centre.
"It looks like a formation." Yu Qi said as she stared at the intricate symbol.
"Yes. Don’t touch it yet." Long Hui said, stepping closer to examine it safely.
"Bo Ya?" Yu Qi called out softly.
Bo Ya immediately understood what his master wanted him to do and quickly attempted to scan the door.
’I cannot scan through the door at all, Master.’ Bo Ya informed Yu Qi.
"Alright." Yu Qi replied softly. She pulled out her phone and contacted her virtual assistant. "Neko-chan, can you find anything about this door in their system?" Yu Qi asked.
"Give me a moment, Master!" The virtual kitten on Yu Qi’s screen began rapidly typing.
Several tense seconds passed in complete silence. Then Neko-chan suddenly stopped, her digital face turning unusually quiet and serious.
"Master... I found something." Neko-chan stated.
"What is it?" Yu Qi asked.
"This door is not listed in the normal facility database." Neko-chan stated.
"What else did you find?" Yu Qi asked when she noticed Neko-chan’s solemn expression.
"I managed to bypass an encrypted section and found a hidden file." Neko-chan stated. She paused for a moment before continuing. "The project section is titled ’Project Origin’."
"What is it about?" Yu Qi asked, her voice dropping.
Neko-chan hesitated briefly before continuing. "There is only one line written in the entire file."
"What line?" Yu Qi asked, genuinely surprised.
"’The original source has been successfully recovered.’" Neko-chan stated gravely.
A heavy silence instantly descended upon the quiet corridor.
Yu Qi’s expression changed completely. "The original source..."
"Master..." Xiaohua suddenly reached out, her little hands clutching tightly onto Yu Qi’s clothes.
"Master..." Xiaoliu also reached over, clutching Long Hui’s trousers with a trembling grip.
Both adults looked down at the two children in alarm. They could clearly see that the children’s faces had turned unusually, ghostly pale.
"What is going on with both of you? What happened?" Yu Qi asked, kneeling down to check on them.
"Something behind that door..." Xiaohua pointed a shaky finger toward the heavy door and swallowed nervously. "...is calling me."
"That’s right. I also heard the exact same voice calling us." Xiaoliu said softly, his voice trembling.
Yu Qi and Long Hui exchanged a serious glance. Xiaohua and Xiaoliu were both tree monsters, so the fact that something behind this door was calling out to them was deeply concerning. What kind of entity could possibly be sealed behind this door? That realisation alone was enough to make both of them extremely cautious.
"Can you tell what it is?" Yu Qi asked softly.
Xiaohua shook her head, and Xiaoliu quickly did the same.
"I don’t know, Master. I just feel like... something is pulling me toward it." Xiaohua said, placing a small hand gently over her chest. "It feels familiar, but I cannot remember where I have felt it before."
"I feel the exact same way. It is not necessarily an aura. It feels more like an undeniable connection." Xiaoliu added, his brow furrowing in confusion.
Yu Qi’s expression grew increasingly solemn. She immediately reached out, took Xiaohua and Xiaoliu’s hands, and pulled them closer to her side, putting some safe distance between the children and the steel door.
"Let’s not get too close to the door just yet." Yu Qi stated protectively.
