Chapter 550: Chapter 444: The Cross Family’s Law (Part 3)
But at that moment, a vast thunder net had unexpectedly descended from the sky, enveloping her and the Nightmare Beast. Along with them, Vert, Monkey One, and a swarm of mutated bees were all caught as targets within the net.
"Graham, something about this feels strange. Don’t be rash!" Solomon Sterling urged.
"Dianna, stop!" Graham Cross yelled. But just as he moved to stop Dana Cross, Li Yimi stopped him.
"I see things differently! Graham, my friend, your Cross family are veterans of the battlefield. If you had a Nightmare Beast like this, you’d be invincible!
We just have to make sure this little girl stays safe!"
"Uncle Graham, no! That’s the Boss’s child! If anything happens to her, no one will be able to face the consequences!"
The Crown Prince and Civet were the fastest of the group. They appeared on either side of Dana Cross in a flash, each pressing a dagger against her carotid artery.
"Crown Prince! Civet! Are you rebelling?! I have the blood of the Cross family! How dare you touch me!"
"Shut up!" The Crown Prince glared impatiently at Dana Cross, pressing his dagger in harder. A bead of blood trickled down the blade’s tip.
"You’re not joking? This is the Young Master’s child?" Graham Cross’s face went slack with shock, his mind buzzing louder than the mutated bees swarming in the air.
"It’s the absolute truth."
Five, Nolan Jennings, Caleb Bloom, Cynthia Grant, and the others all unleashed their superpowers, trying to destroy the thunder net that trapped Polly and rescue her.
Hearing this exchange, the male Fire Ability User’s heart sank and his pupils dilated. "You... You’re not mistaken?"
Polly Cross was on the Nightmare Beast’s back, her tiny body still too unsteady to sit or stand firmly. The Nightmare Beast was immune to most superpowers. Take the earlier Fire Element attack, for instance; the beast hadn’t needed to react at all. Even if The Crown Prince hadn’t intercepted the attack, it wouldn’t have harmed it or its little master.
However, the Thunder Element was the Nightmare Beast’s innate weakness. Startled by the thunder net, the beast instinctively reared up, sending Polly tumbling from its back.
Polly was falling, about to be ensnared by the thunder net. For such a small child to be struck by a Nebula Level Thunder Ability—the outcome would be horrific. She would be crippled, if not killed.
Just then, at the exact moment Polly was about to fall into it, Dana Cross’s thunder net vanished. Simultaneously, a larger and more substantial thunder net descended, wrapping around Dana Cross instead.
With a piercing scream, Dana Cross began to convulse, struggling in agony within the new thunder net.
Before anyone could process what had happened, only Graham Cross saw the man who leaped down from a black horse. He caught the falling Polly Cross, his eyes too full of scorn to spare the onlookers a glance. He merely frowned, holding the little girl he’d just saved by the collar.
"If you misbehave again, you can say goodbye to the Nightmare Beast!"
Polly Cross fought back the urge to cry, nodding with wide, tear-filled eyes.
"Daddy, up!" the little girl demanded, flinging her arms around Lex Cross’s neck and scrambling onto his left shoulder. Her chubby, lotus-root-like legs dangled against his chest.
She looked both adorable and pitiable.
In reality, however, Polly Cross was one to hold a grudge. And not only did she hold grudges, she demanded immediate vengeance.
"Daddy, they wanted to kill Polly."
Lex Cross said nothing. He simply reached up and patted Polly’s head, a silent signal for her to be quiet too.
Even Flora Bloom often wondered how this father and daughter communicated. She especially couldn’t fathom how a child as young as Polly could understand Lex Cross’s silent, oppressive style of interaction.
At this, the crowd from Villa No. 3, seeing that Lex Cross had returned and saved Polly, collectively breathed a sigh of relief.
"Young Thorne! You’re finally back," Sherman Lynch said, patting his chest, his heart still racing from the scare.
If anything had happened to Polly just now, a piece of their own hearts would have died.
Sepherdine, now healed by Shauna Wallace, clenched his fists and glared at the man with the Fire Element. But Flora Bloom had not yet returned, and he knew that in a situation like this, it was not his place to speak.
"Uncle Graham," Lex Cross began, his voice deceptively calm, "for harming one with the blood of the Cross family... according to our family laws, what is the sentence?" His gaze upon Graham Cross, however, was as sharp and frigid as a winter wind.
’It felt as if he would be killed by that gaze alone if his answer didn’t satisfy the man before him. Of course, he was confident Lex Cross wouldn’t physically harm him, but he would forevermore be deemed useless in Lex’s eyes.’
’Anyone with eyes could see who the future Head of the Cross family would be. If he were to lose this man’s trust, his days to come...’
"The sentence... is death."
"Uncle Graham!" Dana Cross cried, her face a mask of grief and her eyes spilling over with tears. "Lex! I... I didn’t know she was your daughter!"
Lex Cross narrowed his eyes, turning his head to look at Dana Cross. In his hand, the power of the Thunder Element mingled with that of the Devouring System, the resulting energy growing visibly more volatile.
"I... I-I didn’t do it on purpose! I... Uncle Graham, please, plead my case!"
