Tap, tap, tap...

A series of urgent knocks echoed from outside the door.

Song Wen strode to the entrance and opened the door.

To his slight surprise, Wang Qiuyue stood outside.

She had arrived even earlier than Bai Wei.

"Fellow Daoist Wang, long time no—"

Before Song Wen could finish his greeting, Wang Qiuyue swept past him like a gust of wind, her almond-shaped eyes widening as she scrutinized Lan Chen from head to toe.

"Truly a captivating beauty," Wang Qiuyue murmured in admiration.

"Greetings, Senior," Lan Chen said, rising and bowing respectfully.

"No need for such formality," Wang Qiuyue waved her hand, gesturing for Lan Chen to sit.

She then moved to Lan Chen’s side and settled into the seat beside her.

"What is your name, little friend?"

"Reporting to Senior, this junior is Lan Chen," Lan Chen replied.

"Where did you cultivate before?"

Song Wen paid no attention to the women’s conversation, sitting quietly to the side and slowly savoring his spirit wine.

About half a tea’s time later, another knock sounded at the door.

Song Wen opened it to find Bai Wei standing outside.

Unlike her usual appearance, Bai Wei wore a thin veil that concealed her face, revealing only her luminous eyes.

"Fellow Daoist Bai Wei, please come in quickly."

"You don’t need to be so formal," Bai Wei said, her gaze fixed on Song Wen, her eyes curving slightly into a faint smile.

As she spoke, the thin veil covering her face fluttered with each breath, revealing glimpses of her crimson lips.

"Where’s your friend?"

Bai Wei entered the private room, her gaze sweeping past Song Wen to peer inside.

She saw Wang Qiuyue looking back at her, with Lan Chen seated beside her.

Bai Wei’s eyes narrowed sharply, her gaze lingering on Lan Chen’s devastatingly beautiful face.

Then, she withdrew her gaze and turned to Song Wen.

Her lips pressed into a thin line, and a hint of resentment flickered in her eyes, as if both angry and annoyed.

"Fellow Daoist Bai Wei, is something amiss?" Song Wen asked softly.

Bai Wei snapped back to reality, suddenly realizing that she had no real connection to ’Gou Jun’.

Though they had shared intimate moments, it had been a willing sacrifice to save Xu Mengyu.

After a moment of stunned silence, the resentment in her eyes vanished, replaced by a faint smile.

She raised her right hand and removed the veil, revealing her exquisite, peerless features.

Today, Bai Wei wore no disguise, revealing her true face.

Wang Qiuyue, seated at the round table, saw this and her eyes flashed with excitement. She immediately rose to her feet.

"Bai Wei, you’re a bit late! Come, sit down."

Despite her words, she didn’t move to greet Bai Wei. Instead, she circled the table and sat down opposite Lan Chen, still clutching a flask of spirit wine, which she occasionally took a swig from.

Her eyes narrowed slightly, her gaze shifting back and forth between Bai Wei and Lan Chen.

"You must be the little friend seeking to join the Spirit Jade Palace?" Bai Wei said, looking at Lan Chen. "I am Bai Wei of the Spirit Jade Palace, in charge of Azure Mist Peak. Would you be willing to serve under my command?"

Lan Chen had already risen to her feet, her eyes fixed respectfully on Bai Wei. However, Bai Wei had been engaged in conversation with Song Wen, leaving her no opportunity to speak.

She quickly stepped forward and offered a graceful bow.

"Junior Lan Chen greets Senior Bai Wei. I have long admired the renowned Azure Mist Peak of the Spirit Jade Palace. To receive your favor is an honor beyond measure. I pledge to cultivate diligently and never betray your trust."

"No need for such formalities," Bai Wei replied calmly, her face still bearing the expression of a senior expert’s appreciation for a promising junior.

"Junior dares not presume. Senior has only agreed to accept me out of consideration for Ji Yin. I am well aware of my mediocre talent, which hardly warrants your attention," Lan Chen said.

At these words, both Bai Wei and Wang Qiuyue froze in shock, their heads snapping around in unison to stare intently at Song Wen.

"Ji Yin? Are you Gou Jun or Ji Yin?" Wang Qiuyue demanded.

Song Wen’s expression stiffened slightly. He realized he had overlooked this matter.

"A name is merely a label," Song Wen said with a forced smile. "The path of cultivation is fraught with peril, each step fraught with danger. To facilitate my travels, I’ve adopted several daoist titles."

Wang Qiuyue’s eyes flickered, and a sly smile curved her lips.

"Tsk, how nicely put. You’re clearly afraid to reveal your true name, not just using a few extra daoist titles."

With that, she turned to Lan Chen. "Little friend Lan Chen, how long have you known him?"

"Over four hundred years," Lan Chen replied.

"Oh? That long? No wonder you address him as ’Ji Yin’ even at your Divine Transformation cultivation level, omitting the honorific ’Senior’." Wang Qiuyue raised an eyebrow, then glanced at Bai Wei with a playful glint in her eyes. "Bai Wei, it seems ’Ji Yin’ is his true name after all. We’ve both been deceived."

Bai Wei’s expression darkened, her bright eyes dimming slightly. But she quickly regained her composure.

"Gou... As a rogue cultivator who has weathered countless dangers, it’s understandable you’d use aliases to conceal your movements. Besides, many cultivators across the Southern Nether Continent are searching for ’Gou Jun.’ From now on, we’ll call you ’Ji Yin’ to avoid unnecessary trouble."

"Thank you for your understanding, Fellow Daoist," Song Wen said.

"Between us, there’s no need for such formalities," Bai Wei replied.

Wang Qiuyue watched the scene with keen interest, savoring a sip of spirit wine before turning her gaze to Lan Chen.

Lan Chen, now understanding the situation, met Bai Wei’s gaze and spoke.

"Senior Bai Wei, though I’ve known Ji Yin for many years, we haven’t seen each other for over a century. Since our recent reunion, he has often mentioned you, describing you as not only peerlessly beautiful and the most stunning woman in the world, but also a master of Pill Refinement Technique, a rare seventh-rank alchemist. Seeing you today confirms that Ji Yin’s words were no exaggeration."

Lan Chen paused, observing Bai Wei’s reaction. Noticing the faint upward curve of her lips, she continued.

"Ji Yin also said that you treated him with exceptional kindness, assisting him on numerous occasions. He has always cherished your benevolence."

"He truly said that?" A flicker of surprise lit up Bai Wei’s eyes.

Lan Chen smiled warmly, her tone sincere.

"Absolutely. He speaks of you so often that I sometimes grow weary of hearing about it."

Bai Wei’s fair cheeks flushed slightly, and her gaze softened considerably, losing the deliberate pretense of a senior’s appreciation for a junior.

Wang Qiuyue, standing nearby, appeared somewhat bewildered. While Bai Wei’s reaction aligned with her expectations, Lan Chen’s actions took her by surprise.

Could it be that the relationship between Lan Chen and Ji Yin wasn’t what she had assumed?
