Record of a Demon's Cultivation
Chapter 1476: Vengeful Spirit Tide
Translator: CinderTL
Song Wen gritted his teeth, enduring the waves of excruciating pain surging through his sea of consciousness as he shot upward through the air.
Using the light emanating from the spatial reflection, he clearly saw a tentacle rapidly approaching from below.
Just as the tentacle was about to strike him, Song Wen plunged into the lake’s reflection, vanishing without a trace.
The tentacle struck empty air.
Moments later, the ten-zhang-tall bull-bodied void demon arrived at Song Wen’s last known location.
After staring at the sudden, eerie lake reflection for a moment, the bull-bodied void demon turned away to harvest the resentful spirits it had wounded.
Meanwhile, Song Wen felt the world spin violently around him.
The scene before his eyes remained the lake’s reflection, but it was being stretched, twisted, and ultimately shattered into a dizzying mess of chaotic, swirling colors, making it impossible to discern any recognizable shapes.
A wave of nausea surged through him, forcing Song Wen to close his eyes.
His consciousness dissolved into a chaotic slurry, as if someone had stirred it into a thick, muddy paste.
After an indeterminate amount of time—perhaps a fleeting moment, or perhaps an eternity—the dizzying sensation suddenly vanished.
Song Wen forcibly suppressed the nausea rising from the depths of his divine soul, pried open his heavy eyelids, and released his divine sense.
He found himself suspended in mid-air above a lake.
The lake mirrored the scene from the previous spatial reflection almost perfectly: bright sunlight, a tranquil water surface, and scattered islands.
However, the lake was far smaller than he had imagined, spanning only three or four thousand miles.
Above Song Wen, another spatial reflection displayed a hazy, gray scene. Within it, a dark mist flowed ceaselessly, beneath which the churning sea and jagged reefs were faintly visible.
Gazing at the reflection overhead, Song Wen instantly understood: entering this spatial reflection would lead him to the Primordial Qi Death Zone on the Western Rong Continent.
He also noticed a human city, several hundred miles in area, located southeast of the lake, less than a thousand miles away.
The city was enveloped by a golden barrier, its runes swirling like an inverted, colossal golden bell, keeping thousands of resentful spirits at bay.
No matter how fiercely the resentful spirits clawed and tore at the golden barrier, they couldn’t budge the formation barrier even an inch.
Through the golden barrier, the figures of people huddled inside could be seen, their eyes fixed on the frenzied resentful spirits outside.
Beyond the city walls, a desolate scene unfolded, devoid of any living creatures.
Not a single person was visible, nor any trace of demon race beasts or birds.
Even in the deepest depths of the lake, not a single living fish remained.
The resentful spirits rampaged, leaving death in their wake, annihilating all life in their path.
Song Wen’s sudden appearance immediately drew the attention of the resentful spirits.
Abandoning their siege of the city’s formation, the spirits turned as one, like hyenas scenting blood. Enveloping themselves in surging black Primordial Qi, they lunged at Song Wen with murderous intent!
Leading the charge was a humanoid resentful spirit, its body stretched unnaturally like a strand of noodles, its power already at the mid-eighth-tier.
The humanoid spirit advanced on Song Wen, emitting a soul-cleaving shriek that tore through the air.
Behind it, two more eighth-tier resentful spirits followed closely.
Daring not to linger for even a moment, Song Wen swiftly fled in the opposite direction.
Within South Pill City, an elderly man sat cross-legged in mid-air beneath a golden barrier. Nine resplendent, three-meter-tall formation flags floated around him, while he held an array disk that glowed with intense golden light. Clearly, he was the one controlling the city’s grand formation to repel the relentless assault of resentful spirits.
Two figures stood beside the elder. To his left was an old woman with snow-white hair and beard, yet her complexion remained rosy and vibrant. To his right stood a middle-aged male cultivator, radiating an aura of righteous integrity.
The old woman gazed at the distant horizon where Song Wen had vanished, her white eyebrows furrowing slightly. "How could a human cultivator have been transported through a spatial reflection?"
"This is indeed peculiar," the elder replied, his voice steady as he manipulated the grand formation. "The Western Rong Continent is demon territory, with no known human cultivation methods. How could he have reached the Body Integration Stage? Moreover, the spatial reflection on that continent lies deep within the Primordial Qi Death Zone, shrouded in Primordial Qi that obscures vision and blocks divine sense. How did he pinpoint its exact location? Furthermore, the divine sense assault from the eighth-tier vengeful spirits seemed to have no effect on him. This man must be concealing extraordinary secrets."
The old woman’s eyebrows twitched, a fiery glint of covetousness flashing in her eyes.
"Old Man Bai, you guard the grand formation here. I’ll go take a look."
"Go ahead," Old Man Bai replied. "That man has lured away all three eighth-tier vengeful spirits. The remaining ones are no threat. Besides, judging by the spatial reflection, no more vengeful spirits are likely to be teleported here. This Vengeful Spirit Tide is over."
"Grandmother, I’ll go with you," the middle-aged male cultivator beside her said.
The old woman shook her head.
"With only peak body integration cultivation, you’d be defenseless against an eighth-tier vengeful spirit’s divine sense attack. And if I engage one, I won’t have time to protect you. Stay in the city, stabilize the situation, and prevent any chaos."
Before her words faded, the old woman transformed into a gray streak of light, soaring toward the golden formation barrier’s dome.
A fissure opened in the dome.
A gray streak of light pierced through the rift, instantly slaying several resentful spirits attempting to exploit the opening to enter the grand formation. It then surged after Song Wen, who had already departed.
The middle-aged male cultivator withdrew his gaze from the receding gray light and turned to the elder, bowing respectfully.
"Senior Bai, shall this junior lead a team out of the formation to clear out the remaining resentful spirits?"
"There’s no need," Old Man Bai replied. "Though the eighth-tier vengeful spirits have departed, nearly twenty seventh-tier resentful spirits remain. Forcing a confrontation would only result in unnecessary casualties."
"But... are we just going to let these beasts rampage outside the formation?" the middle-aged male cultivator protested.
Old Man Bai explained, "Rong Shao, this is your first time suppressing the Vengeful Spirit Tide in South Pill City. You may not realize that these resentful spirits are recklessly expending their Primordial Qi. Since this region is a Primordial Qi Death Zone, they can’t replenish it. Within a day, their Primordial Qi will be exhausted, and the heaven and earth spiritual qi will invade their bodies, causing them to perish. Why risk venturing out to eliminate them?"
"Thank you for clarifying, Senior," Rong Shao said.
Yet his gaze swept toward the rampaging resentful spirits outside the formation, his eyes burning with eagerness.
The Thunder Kui Wings on Song Wen’s back vibrated ceaselessly.
Thunderlight flashed, tearing through the sky and shredding the clouds in his path.
Yet the three eighth-tier vengeful spirits pursuing him drew ever closer. Song Wen could already sense the dense Primordial Qi radiating from their bodies.
With a flick of his wrist, five thumb-sized blood-red crystals appeared in his palm.
Refining these blood crystals was a time-consuming process.
Song Wen possessed only a little over twenty of them and was reluctant to waste them carelessly.
Surely five hundred phantom bodies will be enough to shake off these three vengeful spirits?
As Song Wen pondered this, Shadow Void’s voice echoed in his sea of consciousness.
"Master, a Great Ascension Stage human cultivator is pursuing you from behind."
