Red Monster
Chapter 157: Reaching The Climax (2)
Red threw his bow to the side, then he ran to the other side with a spear in his right hand. He was buying time to coat his spear with mana. He had killed a lot of Elite Kobold Fighters, but he still didn’t have the confidence to fight them head-on. No, it was stupid to fight them head-on when he could kill them from a distance.
The two Elite Kobold Fighters lowered their swords and found the distance between them, and Red widened to twenty trees. They didn’t hesitate to chase, as both realized the danger Red posed to them. They must kill Red regardless of the price, so they chased without hesitation.
Red arrived at the border of the jungle and the clearing. He stopped running as he had fully coated his spear and turned around. He was calm and collected, measuring the distance between him and the kobold.
The reason he didn’t throw his spear right away was because of the distance he created. Within this distance, the two Elite Kobold Fighters would be able to react to his spear throw. He needed them to get closer.
When the distance was about fifteen trees, he started the short run toward the kobolds. It was to gain momentum; then he threw the spear when the distance was about eleven trees.
Swish!
The spear whistled through the air. As he expected, the Elite Kobold Fighter reacted when they saw he threw the spear. However, the two Elite Kobold Fighters underestimated the speed of his spear throw. Before they could raise their sword to block the spear, the spear beat them to it.
The spear went through the Elite Kobold Fighter on the right, right on the spot, in the middle of its forehead. The kobold’s big body fell backward, falling on its back as the clanking sound of its armor clinked.
The Elite Kobold Fighter looked at his friend on the ground. It saw a hole in the helmet as well as blood pouring out. It kicked his friend in the head, nudging the kobold on the ground. It was confirming whether its friend was still alive or not.
Realizing its friend was dead, the Elite Kobold Fighter looked up at the culprit. Unfortunately for it, Red had already gone into the jungle. It saw the red silhouette entering the jungle.
The Elite Kobold Fighter hesitated for a moment, but it decided to follow. It slowed down before entering the jungle. It took three steps into the jungle, walking over the roots. It heard a familiar whistling sound.
The Elite Kobold Fighter subconsciously looked up and saw an incoming spear. It raised the sword halfway, but it was too late. The spear pierced its head as its vision blackened.
Red came down from the tree and exchanged the body for loot. He got three more mediocre-quality cores, one Might Core and two Magic Cores. That would make it eighteen mediocre-quality cores, ten Magic Cores and eight Might Cores.
He ignored the silver coin, still useless stuff to him even though Darla reminded him how valuable they were. Those coins might be valuable for humans, but they were useless to him. He didn’t even bother to give that coin a second look.
Then he looked up at the second Elite Kobold Fighter. "Should I absorb them and get to level 17 now?"
The Magic Cores slot was filled to max. He could no longer put more Mediocre Magic Cores in his pouch.
With the ongoing battle, he could not look for a spot to keep his cores safe. The only safe place was his Storage Pouch that no one was aware of.
He pulled his spear that was stuck in the ground and ran to the second body. He exchanged the body for loot, and he wished it was a skill book or a skill scroll. But nothing surprised him when his wish was unanswered. A silver coin and four cores.
It was a good drop, but his pouch was full. What was worse, the drop was one Might Core and three Magic Cores. He no longer hesitated even though he knew it was a waste. He grabbed the Magic Cores and absorbed them one by one.
He opened his status when he didn’t hear the notification, checking his progress to the next level.
[Tier 1 Might]
Strength: 235 (+65) Endurance: 190 (+2.6, +20) Vitality: 195 (+3.8,+25) Dexterity: 340 (+170)
[Tier 1 Magic]
Intelligence: 250 (+0.6) Wisdom: 249 (+5.6) Arcane Perception: 250 (+5) Mind: 250 (+6.4)
Three out of four Magic Stats reached the threshold, leaving Wisdom. He just needed 1 in Wisdom to reach the next level. He could get it by absorbing one more mediocre Magic Core, but he potentially would waste 0.4 to 0.8 stat. Or he could wait for two inferior Magic Cores later.
Red decided to wait for inferior cores and put that one Might Core in his pouch. He retrieved his pear, putting it on his back before going for the bow he threw. He threw the bow because he was afraid of snapping it if the fight against the two Elite Kobold Fighters came close. He could not afford to lose his bow.
"Or maybe I can find a replacement in the kobold village?" Red muttered as he remembered that the bow he used came from the kobold.
"They might have a better one in the village. I should find one later... later..."
He picked a bow and nocked an arrow, manipulating his mana to coat the arrow. As he did that, he opened his status once more, checking his blessing’s duration. Everything happened so fast, so he must check his blessing from time to time to ensure his blessing didn’t run out.
To his surprise, the battle had gone on for an hour. To be more exact, it was an hour and eight minutes. He ate his blessing food before the fight broke out, so the time should be accurate. He was just surprised that it had been an hour. Everything happened so fast, and it felt like ten minutes instead of an hour.
Red shook his head, focusing on what was in his hand. His arrow was fully coated; next was to find a target. He found the target, directing his aim at it. He was about to release his arrow until he heard a thundering roar. It echoed through the open clearing, and the battle paused in that moment as everyone turned toward the voice.
The Chief, the Goblin Tribe Chief, raised his head, the head of the Kobold Chief. One of his feet was on top of the headless corpse, and a spear was embedded in his left shoulder, yet he still had the vigor to make such a roar.
"KILL ALL THE KOBOLDS! WIPE THEM OUT!"
