Vol. 1 - Ch. 330 - The Ancestor Has Been Captured

Just as despair began to sink into Lu Meng's heart, the ground suddenly started to shake beneath their feet. Even the beast, poised to strike, froze with a look of startled suspicion. It held back from attacking as its gaze snapped toward something behind it.

Startled himself, Lu Meng immediately looked up as well.

What he saw left him stunned. Those same dozen or so Azure Wolves that had sped off into the distance had turned back around at some point and were now racing toward this very spot at incredible speed.

The rapid advance of over a dozen massive Azure Wolves sent faint tremors rippling across the ground.

This sight brought a flicker of hope back to Lu Meng's face.

Seeing the wolves closing in from all directions, the beast abandoned its attack and fled in a panic.

Lu Meng wished he could hold the beast back, but he was already at the end of his strength and in no position to stop it. All he could do was watch helplessly as the creature vanished from sight.

Before regret could fully settle in, he saw two figures leap off the backs of the Azure Wolves not far away. They soared through the air, leaving several afterimages in their wake.

Sensing the overwhelming strength radiating from them, Lu Meng saw a glimmer of hope perhaps these two would be able to slay the beast and avenge the villagers who had died today.

Soon, the rest of the clan arrived at the scene as well.

Seeing the scattered bodies and several surviving villagers wailing mournfully, the clansmen's brows furrowed slightly.

They hadn't expected an Innate Realm beast to be lurking on this road.

But what was done was done, and there was little they could do about it now. A few of the younger clansmen offered Lu Meng's group the specially prepared medicinal herbs they carried to help treat their wounds.

The older clansmen present said nothing further after all it was just a handful of herbs, hardly worth mentioning. As for anything more, there was little else they could offer.

Not long after, Chen Tianyu and Chen Tianquan returned as well. Accompanying them was the very beast they had captured!

However, by now, the creature had lost all its earlier ferocity. Its body hung limp and was covered in wounds. One of its two horns had been snapped clean off.

Though this beast was indeed of the Innate Realm and its horns could unleash a formidable Innate technique, it was utterly powerless against the combined assault of Chen Tianyu and Chen Tianquan.

Seeing the culprit responsible for the villagers' slaughter now captured, Lu Meng, still regulating his breath, felt fury surge in his eyes. He spat through gritted teeth:

"You beast!"

Lu Meng was enraged and felt an intense urge to kill the beast himself.

However, after glancing at Chen Tianyu and Chen Tianquan, who had actually subdued the creature, Lu Meng replaced the anger on his face with a look of deep gratitude.

"Thank you both for lending your aid. If you gentlemen wouldn't mind, please visit my Lu Family Village sometime. The villagers would be happy to welcome you as a thank you for saving our lives!"

"No need for that. It was merely a small effort on our part. That said, we'll be taking this beast with us."

"This creature was felled by your own hands, sir. It's only right that you take it."

Lu Meng replied without hesitation. He and the other surviving villagers were just grateful to have escaped with their lives. How could he be so ungrateful as to object?

Chen Tianyu and the others didn't linger any further. Encountering this Innate Realm beast was pure happenstance. They had only intervened to bring it back as an offering for the Divine Tree.

However, they were carrying something far more precious than this beast, so it was best to head back as soon as possible to avoid any mishaps.

As the Azure Wolves prepared to race off into the distance, Lu Meng called out to them.

"We could never repay you for saving our lives. Please, at least leave us your name! The Lu Family Village will never forget this kindness as long as we live!"

"Chaotic Burial Mountain! The Chen Clan!"

A resounding echo carried through the wind. Lu Meng murmured softly under his breath before finally allowing the group to move on. There were wounded villagers who needed treatment and the dead who needed proper burials. They needed to hurry back to the village.

But Lu Family Village would carry this debt of gratitude in their hearts for generations to come, without fail.

In a hidden valley, countless figures moved about busily. Upon closer inspection, it wasn't hard to tell that the valley served as a stronghold for a minor clan.

Throughout the valley, the figures worked in organized coordination, each with their own assigned duties. From the center of the valley, strange sounds occasionally echoed out—what seemed to be the roar or snarl of some ferocious beast.

The valley's calm was soon shattered, however, when a figure came rushing in, clearly in a state of panic.

"Clan Head! Clan Head! This is bad!

"The Ancestor has been captured!"

A burly, broad-shouldered man within the valley froze upon hearing this, then hurriedly demanded,

"What happened? Weren't you told to only target passing villagers or those without much real strength?"

"Clan Head, we did attack those villagers. There was only one Blood Coagulation Realm martial artist in their group. The plan was going smoothly at first. The Ancestor was just about to finish them off, and we were preparing to clean up and seize the jade coins they were carrying. But then, out of nowhere, a group of over a dozen Blood Coagulation Realm Azure Wolf Beasts happened to pass by.

"Then, the Ancestor was captured by them!"

Upon hearing his clansman's report, the burly man ground his teeth together in fury and snarled.

"Damn it! Do you know which clan did this?"

The clansman nodded hurriedly.

"We do, Clan Head. They call themselves the Chen Clan from Chaotic Burial Mountain!"

Though the burly man had been furious just moments before, he quickly calmed down upon hearing this. Meanwhile, the clansman beside him kept rattling on.

“Clan Head, I saw it myself. Two of them were Innate Realm martial artists, and the rest were Blood Coagulation Realm. From the sound of it, they're probably just a small outpost somewhere. Why don't we go wipe them out?

“If we could get our hands on those Azure Wolf beasts and cultivate them ourselves, our clan would definitely grow much stronger!"

"You fool. The Chen Clan was selling Blood Rice in Yong'an City not long ago. Their clan is powerful, and they have a Qi Manipulation Realm martial artist in their ranks. How exactly are we supposed to wipe them out?"

The burly man snapped back reproachfully.

Hearing this, the clansman fell silent at once.

Though he now understood the enemy's true strength, little trace of real fear showed on the burly man's face. He simply murmured under his breath,

"Though they do have a Qi Manipulation Realm martial artist among them, those Azure Wolves you mentioned are exceptional. They'd suit our clan well. We'll just need to wait a bit longer until we've awakened two more of our Ancestors."

After finishing his speech, the burly man turned to look at the ancient structure at the bottom of the valley. A newfound glimmer of confidence spread across his face.

"The clan has accumulated quite a hoard of jade coins these past two years. Take a few clansmen with you to Yunmeng City and exchange them for whatever the clan needs..."

"Tianyu, you've finally made it back."

In Yong'an City, Chen Tianjing smiled upon seeing the clansmen return safely.

Chen Tianyu and Chen Tianquan then recounted the details of the trade. Upon hearing that they had managed to capture an Innate Realm beast on the return journey, Chen Tianjing's smile widened further.

Resources for ferocious beasts on Chaotic Burial Mountain had grown scarce, especially Innate Realm beasts, so this was a most welcome, unexpected windfall.

Finally, Chen Tianyu produced a letter from within his robes.

It was the same letter that Zhao Qimeng had handed them when they left Yunmeng City.

Chen Tianjing opened the letter, scanning its contents slowly.

After finishing, Chen Tianjing let out a light chuckle.

"Now this truly is quite the generous gift!"
