Reincarnated as a Lizard
Chapter 615: Selling the Crystal Bunny
Listening to how everyone had apparently been fooled by another group of adventurers into making the crystal bunny run into their trap before they had ditched everyone to escape after successfully killing off the crystal bunny on their own, Verdell couldn’t help nodding in agreement with the angry complaints of this adventurer. Knowing just how bad it felt for something that should have rightfully belonged to everyone, getting snagged away right in front of one’s eyes.
Of course, there was no way he would give up the crystal bunny, but... At the same time, he also wouldn’t shatter the imagined future of the adventurer who was currently talking about the unfairness of everything that had happened.
After all, even if the crystal bunny hadn’t been snatched up by him and Valerie, there was no way the crystal bunny would be shared with everyone. On the contrary, there was a good chance that it would have ended with an all-out brawl for the crystal bunny once it had died.
In that way, him and Valerie, taking away the crystal bunny could be seen as them helping the adventurers avoid meaningless bloodshed.
From that perspective, it was a good thing that they had jumped in and taken the crystal bunny away from everyone.
At the very least, the bloodshed that would happen had been avoided thanks to them.
Well... Almost...
There was still a good chance those adventurers who had originally been planning to get away with the crystal bunny wouldn’t be able to get out alive.
But then again, considering how they had prepared for everything that had happened, there was a good chance they had some escape plan in mind. After all, they should have known they would inevitably become the target of everyone after taking away the crystal bunny and should have prepared accordingly.
In other words, there was a good chance that the entire struggle for the crystal bunny would end up with no deaths among the adventurers involved, a truly best-case scenario in the eyes of the guild, as the strength of the local adventurers wouldn’t end up suffering any catastrophic damage because of the crystal bunny.
Hehe, how kind of us to help everyone~
Smirking to himself as he thought about all the adventurers who would live thanks to him and Valerie’s kind intentions of taking away the troublesome crystal bunny before anyone could die fighting for it, Verdell found himself in an especially good mood making his way back towards the city.
Of course, another reason for his good mood was that selling off the crystal bunny to the guild would get him out of the debt hanging over his head.
Sure, the crystal bunny could be traded for an SS Rank Adventurers help, but neither he nor Valerie needed something like that now that Valerie had successfully completed the most difficult part of her class advancement quest thanks to the crystal bunny.
The help of an SS Rank Adventurer might still be very useful to someone at the S Rank, but they would be of limited use for someone like Verdell whose current strength was in no way inferior to some weaker SS Rank Adventurers if he went all out with his magic.
As for Valerie... He understood her well enough to know that there was no way she would ever ask someone for help. Especially someone she didn’t know.
On the contrary, the money earned from them selling off the crystal bunny would be more than enough for her to request a fine weapon and top tier armor from his uncle.
Speaking of which... The ones who ended up benefiting from this crystal bunny the most would be his uncle and the Holy Light Church...
Thinking about this, Verdell inevitably felt his initial excitement about obtaining the crystal bunny die down. Especially so when realizing that he hadn’t checked just how much he owed the Holy Light Church.
For all he knew, even his half of what they earned from selling crystal bunny might not be enough to pay back what he owed. Meaning he wouldn’t really get anything from selling off the crystal bunny and would still have a debt hanging over his head.
The reason for the sudden realization coming about because he realized the pillar Scaly had ended up destroying wasn’t just made out valuable material that had been hand carved by an expert but also carried certain historical value that would only make it more expensive and harder to replace.
In a way, as he thought about it, he realized that the pillar wasn’t just expensive, but priceless in the eyes of the Holy Light Church.
Meaning... He was suddenly feeling a bit scared to look at what the exact amount he owed the church was, as he had a feeling, he wouldn’t be able to pay back everything this time around like he had originally wanted to...
The sudden unease of not getting close to repaying his debt even with the crystal bunny being sold off, made him somewhat dispirited for the rest of the journey back to the city.
Only when they finally got to the branch guild building at the heart of the city did he seem to shake off the depression that had suddenly taken over and follow behind Valerie into a private examination room where they could get the monster they were handing in appraised and bought by the guild without having any outsiders see what they were selling to the guild.
Something that was important given how them selling the crystal bunny out in the open was bound to get them targeted by all those adventurers who had ended up returning with nothing in hand after making the trek to the crystal tree forest where the crystal bunny had appeared.
"Wow! A crystal bunny! And one in such good quality... Hm, though bloody and a few holes in the pelt, it should still go for a good price." And as the staff member sent by the guild saw what they had brought out, she was understandably surprised before grinning from ear to ear. Knowing she would be able to get a hefty commission fee for something this precious.
And as Verdell and Valerie watched her quickly and smoothly dismantle the dead crystal bunny and line up the different parts of the crystal bunny on a table for them to see. "This is all, part of the pelt couldn’t be saved, so I will retract that from the original price, but given the value and rarity of a crystal bunny, it still sells even in a somewhat damaged state."
"Thanks... How much will the guild pay for it...?" Hearing what the staff member said, Verdell couldn’t help feeling a bit nervous as he asked this.
"For the pelt in a damaged state, 105.000, the meat... Let’s say 5000 and the rest 10.000. So, 120.000 gold in total." Going over the state of everything that had been skillfully dismantled and laid out by her on the table for Verdell and Valerie to see, the somewhat older woman from the guild slowly quoted the price that the guild was willing to pay for the remains of the crystal bunny.
"120.000 gold... So, 60.000 gold each!?" And hearing this price, both Valerie and Verdell were taken aback, as this was far more than either of them had anticipated getting from the crystal bunny.
Although they knew the crystal bunny was valuable, they had no idea it was this valuable.
For context, a normal A Rank Monster sells for around 1 to 10 gold, while an S Rank Monster is between a 100 and 1000 gold, while a general SS Rank Monster starts at 10.000 gold.
In other words, the single crystal bunny was equal to 12 normal SS Rank Monsters...
It was no wonder adventurers below the SS Rank were willing to die to obtain it and that was without mentioning the fact that this was still the price given while the pelt was in a damaged state. If it had been undamaged, the price would undoubtedly be far higher.
Still, hearing the price given by the older woman from the guild, both Verdell and Valerie happily agreed to sell it to the guild. Knowing that without going through the guild, there was no way for them to sell something like this in the northern frontier.
After all, it wasn’t exactly everyone who could casually pull out 120.000 gold. Only the guild had the ability to do something like that in the northern frontier and the two of them knew this.
No to mention, they had no real ability to process the crystal bunny on their own in the first place.
Still, with the matter settled, Verdell couldn’t help feeling a bit nervous as the sale of the crystal bunny was being processed. Curious if this 60.000 gold would be enough to pay off the debt that had been hanging over his head thanks to the destruction caused by a certain little someone crashing into a pillar...
