The command center of the City Guard Army’s third defense line.

The atmosphere was tense because the Sea Demons had broken through the second defense line. Several young people in High-Level officer uniforms were gathered around a sand table, deploying troops. Their faces were extremely grave.

Just then, a Li Family Servant of the Eight Great Clans stumbled into the room, crawling and tumbling, his face filled with panic.

"What’s all this panic about?" the leading young man frowned and asked in a deep voice.

"Young... Young Master, something terrible has happened!" the Li Family Servant panted heavily. "Something happened in the city!"

"What could possibly happen in the city?" A burly officer nearby waved his hand impatiently. "Even if the sky falls, the Elders will hold it up. Could it be a bigger deal than the Sea Demons breaking our defenses? Spit it out, and make it quick!"

The Li Family Servant swallowed hard and spoke at lightning speed. "The Elders... The Elders were scared away by a Mosquito!"

"What?!"

With a SWISH, the young people in High-Level officer uniforms snapped their heads toward the Li Family Servant in unison. Eyes wide, they stared at the messenger in utter disbelief. They all thought they had been under too much Spirit stress lately and were experiencing auditory hallucinations.

"What exactly happened? Speak clearly!"

The young man with the highest rank and the most composure among them was named Li Zi’an. Suppressing the shock in his heart, he spoke in a deep voice, his sharp gaze fixed on the servant.

The Li Family Servant hastily bowed his head respectfully and recounted the entire incident in detail. "It all started when Miss Jiang Qingyao of the Jiang Family went to find Gu Yuexi. Miss Jiang Qingyao demanded that Gu Yuexi hand over the Dragon Egg, and a disagreement led to a fight. In the end, even after hiding inside the Soul Guardian Bottle, Miss Jiang Qingyao was still slain on the spot by Gu Yuexi. Mr. Jiang Xinglan rushed over to rescue her and brought out the All Things Return to Origin Bell, but he couldn’t block her either. Ultimately, he was...

"Ultimately, he was killed by Gu Yuexi’s Beast Pet Mosquito, his Divine Soul entirely extinguished," the Li Family Servant paused and continued cautiously. "Later, the Elders of the Eight Great Clans arrived together, intending to apprehend them both. However, Gu Yuexi and the Mosquito remained incredibly arrogant. Not only did they critically injure Mr. Ye Guxuan and Miss Chu Nianci, but they also... They also killed the Jiang Family Grand Elder.

"The Elders of the remaining Seven Great Clans surrounded the Mosquito, intending to join forces to kill it. Unexpectedly, the Mosquito suddenly summoned the Twelve Ancestral Witch Gods. The Elders of the Seven Great Clans dared not take it head-on, so they retreated from the battlefield first."

The servant finished his brief explanation. Then, at Li Zi’an’s gesture, he backed out of the command room with his head lowered.

For a moment, the spacious command room was terrifyingly quiet. The young generals of the Eight Great Clans slowly sat back in their seats, the shock on their faces undiminished.

A burly young officer named Zheng Chenguang slammed his sandbag-sized fist onto the table with a loud THUD. He was the first to speak, his tone full of disdain. "I think the Elders of our clans are really growing more cowardly with age! Isn’t it just the Twelve Ancestral Witch Gods? Is there a need to be this scared?! Seven against one, and they didn’t even dare to fight. Word of this will bring shame to the Eight Great Clans!"

Feng Shiyu, another officer wearing thin-rimmed glasses and the only woman in the command room, pushed up her frames and spoke calmly. "The Twelve Ancestral Witch Gods are the supreme treasure of Immortal Venerable Shi Xi. Back in the day, Immortal Venerable Shi Xi used this supreme treasure to suppress countless prodigies of her era. It is said that even Immortal Realm Powerhouses have perished beneath those statues. It is understandable that the family elders would fear the Twelve Ancestral Witch Gods."

Before Feng Shiyu could finish her sentence, Zheng Chenguang snorted coldly and interrupted her. "Miss Feng, how did you become just as cowardly as the Elders? You’re boosting the enemy’s morale while crushing our own! They are just twelve broken stone statues. Is there really a need to make them sound so godlike?! I think the Elders are just getting old and value their lives too much."

Feng Shiyu frowned and leaned back. She already had a petite frame, and the chair behind her was extremely large. Shrinking back into the seat, she seemed to sink entirely into it, looking even more inconspicuous. She simply closed her eyes—out of sight, out of mind—too lazy to argue with Zheng Chenguang.

"What? Not talking anymore? Did I hit the nail on the head?" Zheng Chenguang looked at Feng Shiyu smugly. Like a triumphant general returning from war, his chin was raised high.

He was about to spout a few more sarcastic remarks to assert his superiority when Li Zi’an suddenly shouted in a deep voice, "Enough!!"

He looked at Zheng Chenguang coldly, his eyes devoid of any warmth. "Sit back in your seat. Say one more word, and I’ll tear your mouth off."

Zheng Chenguang stiffened his neck, wanting to talk back. But upon meeting Li Zi’an’s icy glare, he swallowed his impending words. He snorted coldly and sat back in his seat resentfully. He turned his face away; though displeased in his heart, he didn’t dare to actually cross the line.

He could mock everyone else in the room, but he wouldn’t dare defy Li Zi’an. It wasn’t because Li Zi’an held the highest rank. It was because Li Zi’an was the strongest and always kept his word. If Zheng Chenguang really dared to speak another word of nonsense... Li Zi’an would absolutely tear his mouth off on the spot!!! Even if he went back to his family to complain, no one would stand up for him.

This was the competition rule among the younger generation of the Eight Great Clans. As long as they were of the same generation and didn’t kill each other, any kind of fight was permitted. The elders of the Eight Great Clans wouldn’t interfere. This served both as a spur for the younger generation and an unspoken rivalry within the Eight Great Clans. It was the blatant law of the jungle!

Once Zheng Chenguang behaved, the command room quieted down again.

Li Zi’an looked at Feng Shiyu, his voice immediately softening a great deal. "Shiyu, continue. Ignore him."

Feng Shiyu was clearly used to this. She merely opened her eyes, sat up a bit straighter, and continued. "The Elders retreated on the spot not just because they feared the sheer power of the Twelve Ancestral Witch Gods. More so, they were terrified of the faction the Twelve Ancestral Witch Gods represent.

"They initially assumed that Gu Yuexi’s background was, at best, on par with the Ten Great Sects or some Hidden Aristocratic Family. But they never expected that Gu Yuexi’s Beast Pet Mosquito could actually summon the Twelve Ancestral Witch Gods. Let alone the Ten Great Sects, not even Top Notch Hidden Aristocratic Families could possibly refine and summon the Twelve Ancestral Witch Gods.

"This supreme treasure vanished long ago following the passing of Immortal Venerable Shi Xi. Therefore, the Elders suspect that the faction backing Gu Yuexi is very likely the Immortal Race."

Feng Shiyu paused here and didn’t continue. But everyone in the command room understood what she meant. They all widened their eyes, their faces plastered with horror. Even Zheng Chenguang, who always found her irritating, whipped his head around, his mouth agape, unable to speak.

The Spirit Realm was flush with Spiritual Qi, teeming with experts, and possessed as many factions as there were stars in the sky. For local factions like the Eight Great Clans, their strongest foundation was only a Supreme Elder at the Celestial God Realm. Throwing their weight around in Luoping City was fine, but they were absolutely nothing on the outside.

It was no exaggeration to say that in the eyes of the Ten Great Sects, their clans were nothing. They weren’t even fit to carry their shoes! This was because, in every single one of the Ten Great Sects, there was bound to be at least one Immortal Realm Powerhouse holding down the fort. It was just that these Immortal Realm Powerhouses would not easily make a move under normal circumstances. They would only show themselves when their Sect reached a critical juncture of life and death.
