Chapter 210: I’ve returned[2]
After Alicia dropped off Izel, she returned to the Axis and took both Elliot and Leona since they were headed in the same direction, unlike the others.
The first place she arrived at was the Starlin Manor, where she appeared with the two of them.
The moment Leona saw the familiar sight of her home, she turned toward Alicia and lowered her head respectfully. "Thank you, Vice Principal."
Alicia nodded silently while Leona waved at Elliot. "See you later... maybe."
With that, they disappeared without giving him any chance to respond.
She took a deep breath before letting the air out of her lungs. "Haaa..."
"It’s still the same as ever..."
"M-Miss Leona."
A certain voice interrupted her thoughts as she noticed a woman standing several meters away near the entrance.
She was a young woman in her early twenties with long hair tied into a ponytail and a pleasant face.
Leona smiled when she saw the familiar maid... her maid, and also her friend. "Hello, Julie... Did you miss me?"
Before she could realize it, the young maid had already dropped what she was holding and lunged forward, pulling her into a warm embrace.
Leona felt arms wrap around her and the maid’s head rest on her shoulder while hearing her voice, soft and broken as though she were choking back tears. "Miss Leona... I thought you would never come back."
Leona smiled as she raised a hand and patted her friend’s back. "Easy there, Julie. I’m not going anywhere... And please calm down..."
Realizing what she had done, the maid stepped away from Leona while wiping her face and muttering, "That was so embarrassing of me."
Leona moved closer and patted her shoulder. "It’s fine... It’s fine, it wasn’t embarrassing... At least not that much."
"Are my parents here?" Without further delay, Leona asked the most important question.
Julie shook her head while still wiping the tears from her face. "The news only arrived a short while ago, so Master isn’t here yet... He’s probably planning to go directly to the Axis."
"But Lady Lyra is here... She was just about to leave."
She lowered her hands from her face and smiled. "But then you arrived."
Leona nodded, her joy clear on her face. "Yeah, I arrived... Now let’s go inside."
The maid stepped forward and opened the door for her while Leona entered, seeing the place that hadn’t changed during her absence.
But what caught her attention was the woman hurriedly giving instructions to the servants.
With her long blue hair, Lyra Starlin turned her head and noticed Leona, who had just arrived.
At the same time, Leona gathered the brightest smile she could muster as her beautiful voice echoed through the place, filled with joy.
"Mom..."
...
As the last person to arrive, Elliot finally reached his home.
Unlike Izel’s and Ellen’s residences, the Sivrax Manor was larger and far more luxurious... After all, it belonged to one of the three ducal families of the Empire.
Unfortunately, Elliot’s father wasn’t home when he arrived either... Well, Alicia hadn’t given them any time after informing them.
But someone else was.
So, standing in a grand hall, Elliot felt two gentle hands land on his shoulders while a pair of clear eyes and strands of dark hair filled his vision.
"Look at yourself, Elliot... You’ve grown so much and become stronger... I knew you would return. I never doubted my little boy for even a moment."
Elliot’s smile trembled as he replied, "How could I have grown that much, Mom... It’s barely been five months."
She shook her head. "No, you’ve grown. I can see it... You didn’t even give me a hug."
Elliot’s expression trembled even more. "Mooom..."
...
The sound of footsteps echoed through a beautiful white corridor as two people walked through it.
One of them was Kyle, whose eyes were focused ahead as he moved quickly, as though eager to reach a certain place.
The other was a woman wearing a long white coat, with short hair that reached her shoulders.
She held an electronic tablet in her hands as she walked beside him while Kyle asked, "Is there anything I should know?"
The woman nodded while looking at the tablet in her hand before a smile formed on her face. "Yes, there is good news for you."
"I’m pleased to inform you that a full year’s worth of treatment costs was paid in advance by the Axis during your absence."
Kyle’s steps slowed, allowing the woman to relax slightly as she continued. "But that’s not the best news."
"What’s the other news?" he asked without stopping.
She ran a finger across the tablet as she replied, "The latest reports and analyses indicate that Mia’s condition is slowly improving."
Kyle’s eyes widened as he stopped in place in shock. "R-Really?... Are you sure?"
The doctor realized she had gotten several steps ahead of him, causing her to stop and turn around while nodding. "Yes... I wouldn’t say that if I wasn’t sure... Now come on, don’t just stand there."
She continued walking while Kyle followed her this time in silence, listening to every word she said.
"The fact that Mia is still young and that she was brought here in time helped make this possible."
"Her body has begun accepting the treatments we’re providing, so we were able to get rid of a large portion of the tumors, and that allowed us to gradually reduce the dosage of sedatives we were giving her."
Kyle listened as warmth spread through his chest. "There are many tests and other more detailed things I can show you later, but what I want you to know right now is that your sister no longer needs to stay in bed all day."
She spoke those final words as they arrived at a glass door that allowed them to see what lay beyond it, along with several windows on the sides.
Beyond it wasn’t the medical room Kyle had expected to find his sister in.
Instead, it was a small green garden with several shaded seats.
"She’s over there."
The doctor pointed toward a certain spot, but Kyle was already staring at it.
There, seated on one of the benches, was Mia, with a young woman who seemed to be a nurse sitting beside her.
She was holding a book while running her fingers along its lines as though she were teaching the little girl.
Kyle stepped forward and passed through the door, which opened automatically. At the same time, Mia turned her head toward him... perhaps by coincidence, or perhaps because she sensed his presence.
Her eyes widened as she jumped up from her seat.
"Mia, where are you going?"
The nurse called after her to no avail as she turned and ran toward her brother, her dark hair fluttering behind her while her eyes filled with tears within moments.
Kyle saw this and spread his arms wide as a gentle and beautiful smile formed on his face.
The next moment, Mia reached him and threw herself into his arms. "Biiig brother... I hate you... I hate you."
Her childish voice filled the area as he felt the small girl in his arms, burying her face in his chest and hiding her features, though her quiet, muffled sobs still escaped from there.
"I hate you... Hic... I thought you wouldn’t come back... Hic... They told me you w-w..."
Her words were a complete mess as she choked on her tears while Kyle hugged her. The memory of the nightmare returned to his mind for a moment, but he quickly pushed it away.
He didn’t know what he should say, so he said the first thing that came to mind.
"I’m sorry."
...
In a grand and majestic corridor, Ellen walked forward, her black hair swaying with her steps.
She was walking alone after dismissing all of her attendants. Only a few people occasionally passed by and greeted her respectfully.
"I’m happy to see your return, Your Highness."
An elderly man bowed to her, and Ellen responded with a nod as she walked past him, leaving him behind. "Thank you."
With every step, the number of people decreased until no one remained.
But it wasn’t long before she spotted someone new... someone who made the blood in her body boil just from seeing him, while the sound of her heartbeat filled her head.
’Why is he here... Why?’
Ellen bit down hard on her lower lip, tasting blood on her tongue as she continued walking forward without stopping.
There ahead of her stood Zen, leaning against a wall with a small book in his hands.
The moment Ellen drew close, he stepped away from the wall and closed the book while his gaze settled on her, his red eyes sweeping over his missing sister.
A happy smile appeared on his face, and in the next moment, his calm and amused voice echoed through the corridor.
"Welcome back... my dear sister."
