Reincarnated As The Heroes Guide

Chapter 98: Office Space

Chapter 98: Office Space

Kalli walked a full circuit of the walls as the heroes cleared the area around the Academy, then split off a few groups to go hunt Swineherd Demons in the dark.

The two red moons were up tonight, giving plenty of light for them to hunt by, and the mission would be much easier when the monsters couldn’t see them coming. They would get close, let the rangers and mages get the battle started, and then finish the Demons off when they were disorganized.

The earlier that they could get their missions done for the day, the better.

If they could get their kills and tubers all counted and turned in before the sun came up, they had all day to hit the gym, repair their gear, and do whatever they wanted. Mostly, they would likely help the new arrivals settle into an apartment building, but the overnight hunting missions seemed like they had distinct advantages.

With everyone active so early in the morning, Kalli couldn’t exactly go back to sleep. But there was an option that might make her own life a little bit easier.

She had two more workshop buildings, and she could set herself up something to sit in and do the gear exchanges, post up a quest board, and such. She could also put the statue of herself up in there, and while it would feel weird to have a statue of herself, it would work as a stand in when she wasn’t at the office.

Though, she wasn’t technically a tradesman in the conventional sense of the word. It was more of a retail shop, or perhaps business office, as she was doing quests.

Either way, she would find out if she qualified when she tried to place the shop.

There was another location out of the way, but not far for the heroes to walk, that would put the shop on top of one of the power outlets that had allowed the other shop to be fully integrated with the Academy grid.

Kalli moved to the location and activated one of the [Tradesman Workshop Bundles].

{Create Hall of Heroes?} Operator: Kallista De Marimgar

{3 design styles available} [Rustic], [Modern], [Coordinator]

Kalli decided that since this was going to be her office, and she had already begun converting everyone to the modern style battle armour, it would be best to keep up the design theme that she started with the repair shop, and introduce more buildings in the style of her home world.

The shop’s footprint appeared on the ground, and Kalli double-checked to make sure that she wasn’t putting it over anything, or somewhere that might be in the way.

There was plenty of room to walk between it and the wall, or even freely swing a sword, if the fighting happened to breach the compound. So, that was fine, and other than that, she was set up in an open grassy area.

The only other occupants that often passed by here were the undead, as Esmeralda kept them in the corner between the dorm building and the wall, which was on the far side of the new building, relative to the gate.

That might actually be a good thing. Out of sight, out of mind.

The inside of the building was the sort of white synthetic surfaces what Kalli was used to in government buildings of her past life. Bland, boring, sterile. But In this case, also easy to clean blood and mud from.

The Heroes were going to be bringing kills back to her, so they would be placed somewhere for the transfer, and the area cleaned after.

Lately, they’d just been doing it outside, and washing the blood away into the grass.

With the building placed, Kalli put the statue of herself behind one of the counters, and sighed in annoyance at the wise and heroic pose that the statue gave her. That was not her at all.

But it would let everyone turn in quests without coming directly to her, and that was a huge advantage for her sleep schedule.

Other than the quest turn in counter, the building contained a storage room, a small office with a desk and a hammock, and a large common area with tables and bench seating. It was clearly somewhere for the heroes to hang out and wait for missions, or socialize.

But without Kalli on duty to sell them goods, it wasn’t much of a tavern or cafeteria.

There wasn’t any sort of kitchen in the place.

That didn’t mean that she couldn’t serve drinks from the counter. She had the ability to purchase them, and she could offer them as a perk to the heroes that were going out on missions.

A little "added bonus on completion".

But what the Heroes were most likely to want was not alcohol, given their need to remain somewhat sober in the current situation.

It was junk food.

Soda, chips, chocolate. If she made that and gave it out to the heroes as they turned in quests, it would make the common area of the shop quite popular.

A case of soda, three dozen cans, was one System Point. Chocolate bars were two dozen to a case for two points, as were small bags of snacks.

There was even an assorted snack case, which might make many people happy or nobody at all, depending on what was in it.

Then, Kalli found that there was an even better option in the housewares section.

{Bubble Tea Machine}

There were also packets of both tapioca and white jelly pearls, as well as bags of good tea.

That was something that she simply needed to add to the shop.

Forget Gerry and his kitchen, he could do nutrition, she would do happiness.

And bubble tea was happiness in a cup.

Kalli happily whistled to herself as she set up the machine behind the counter, purchased supplies and a fridge to put them in, and then noticed that the machine could actually make its own cups with an injection of mana, but wouldn’t make the food ingredients.

That was odd and inconvenient.

But she didn’t want to start dumping disposable cups into the Academy’s ecosystem without trash disposal, so she purchased a case of large plastic cups that would hold the same amount.

Those could be rinsed and returned. That was a much better use of resources.
