Reincarnated with the King’s Power
Chapter 328
The heartland of the Empire.
Collapsed ramparts and piled corpses.
The groans of the wounded and the thick scent of blood showed that the flames of war had swept through this place.
"Send the wounded to the priests!"
"Healing mage! Look over here!!"
Eurasia's soldiers shouted throughout the area as they reorganized their ranks for the next battle.
"……"
Unconcerned with the surrounding uproar, a silver-haired man who had been meditating with his back against a collapsed rampart opened his eyes.
A Holy Heart, refined in the place where his Mana Heart had once been.
Faint divine power could be felt from it.
"Two rings now, then."
The Monster Lord had taken his body and he had lost his Mana Heart, but by refining a Holy Heart, he could continue down the path of the sword.
He could no longer use explosive Ke through mana or Formulae through Haki.
But the swordsmanship he had accumulated over decades remained.
The problem was the amount of divine power, which was not increasing by much.
Nor could he use Divine Formulae like ordinary priests or Holy Knights.
After crossing swords several times on the battlefield, he realized it.
When he was first deployed, his skill had been at the level of a 1-Star knight.
Even that had been possible only because he caught opponents off guard with swordsmanship. Once his opponents rose to 2-Star, he reached the point where he could no longer endure with his bare body.
Damian volunteered to go where the ordinary soldiers, rather than the knight order, were stationed.
It was a place filled with infantry and mercenaries who had not refined Mana Hearts.
A Holy Heart that could neither use Formulae nor reinforce the body was useless.
Then he learned from a Holy Knight dispatched with the kingdom's support force.
Unlike priests, who handled Holy Hearts like Mana Hearts, Holy Knights formed rings around their Holy Hearts for dynamic movement.
Circular rings that extended from the Holy Heart and encircled it.
"Circle."
A Circle drew divine power from the Holy Heart rapidly to reinforce the body through the bloodstream.
By using a Circle, he could immediately reach the level of physical reinforcement achieved with 1-Star mana.
It became considerably easier to meet the swords of the 2-Star knights he encountered on the battlefield.
And Damian had no intention of stopping there.
After every battle, Damian did not meditate to strengthen his Holy Heart, but to strengthen his Circle.
'What happens if I weave another ring?'
It was a one-dimensional approach.
But the enemy would not make allowances for his circumstances.
He made use of every interval of rest that came after a battle.
And just before.
Damian had woven another ring atop the one wrapped around his heart.
The two rings drew the Holy Heart's divine power deeper and faster, sending it through his blood vessels.
He had opened a path no one had taken before.
Whoosh.
Pure-white divine power radiated from his body.
'With this much, could I take on a 3-Star knight?'
He could not use Formulae, but merely being able to reinforce his body was more than enough.
"If I train in this state, I will be able to grow to the level of a 4-Star knight without difficulty."
He could not yet judge how many rings he could weave.
But he had achieved growth that he could use in the immediate battle.
He had recovered to the level of a 3-Star knight in less than a year after losing his Mana Heart, which could be called a faster return than Paian's after he lost an arm.
'I still have a long way to go.'
Damian was clenching his fist, satisfied with the new power he had gained, when.
"Damian Eurasia."
He looked up at the shadow over his head to find a massive man looking down at him.
It was a face he knew well.
"Babato."
The commander who led the Lion's Mane Mercenary Corps, a man called the Mercenary King.
He was a superhuman who had accepted a request from the Kingdom Alliance through Killian.
And he currently led the mercenary corps supporting the infantry Damian belonged to.
The kingdom's infantry had not suffered grave losses so far because Babato was quickly picking off the Empire's superhumans.
"I wondered what you kept doing in a corner after every battle. You were doing something interesting?"
He spoke while looking Damian over.
'They said he had reached 8-Star……. It was true.'
Damian felt pressure from him similar to what Escardo Schtenberg exuded.
If Damian had still maintained the Presence of 7-Star, he would have been an interesting opponent.
Not now.
To rise to his old realm again would require at least ten years, perhaps twenty.
"Here, I am only an ordinary soldier. There is no reason for a man of the Mercenary King's stature to take an interest."
"Are you not Eurasia's next king, who led a knight order until recently? And now you are walking a new path of the sword."
He had seen through the fact that Damian could no longer wield mana and was regaining martial power by a strange method.
"The next battle could happen at any time. You do not have time to waste in a place like this."
"It is a commander's basic duty to know the strength of our allies. In the next battle, take charge as a Centurion. Our own men are nearing their limits as well."
He meant that sacrifices in battle had left them short of command-level manpower.
Damian had been a commander of knights until recently.
He could not remain an ordinary soldier on the battlefield forever.
"I will."
"I like how straightforward you are."
Babato filled the hole in the formation and turned away with a satisfied expression.
"Commander Babato."
"What?"
Babato asked with an indifferent face, as though wondering whether there was still something Damian wanted.
"Have you heard from Killian?"
"……"
When Babato fell silent, the surrounding cries of those tending to the battlefield seemed to grow louder.
Then.
"Killian?"
"……"
"Who is that?"
At the response of someone who had heard incomprehensible nonsense, Damian shook his head.
"No. It seems I was mistaken."
"That was anticlimactic."
Babato resumed walking.
Damian watched him leave and sighed.
"Even an 8-Star superhuman cannot remember him."
The name Killian Eurasia was fading from people's memories.
As though he had never existed in the first place.
'Killian, what are you doing again……?'
He always moved in unpredictable ways, but Damian knew it was all for Eurasia.
'It is not the realm of the Mana Heart that preserves memories.'
Just as his memories were likely preserved because of his Holy Heart, perhaps only those tied to Killian by some close connection had not forgotten him.
Someone with a special connection to Killian Eurasia.
One mage came to Damian's mind.
'If it is her…….'
* * *
In the brief moment when she first peered into Drago's memories, Charles realized.
'Hazard and my magic cannot win.'
There were countless Arcane Magics recorded in the Magic Tower.
The 9-Star magic she could refine while synchronized with it, and Hazard's breath, capable of bringing down an entire castle.
Drago de Lord was a being who could endure all of it.
The Great War between the Empire and the Kingdom Alliance was not particularly important to the being before her.
'He has joined hands with the Emperor, but he hates him.'
He had joined hands with the Monster Lord, but did not trust him.
What he ultimately wanted was the final choice.
The pieces the Highest-ranking God Lord had made in imitation of Adamas, in order to overturn the Laws of the World.
Drago de Lord wished to stand above the pieces who had power equal to his own.
To do that, he collected dragons' hearts.
'I have felt your arrogance well enough.'
[Creation Magic. 'Eye That Sees the Future' activates.]
Time Magic that imitated the Pope's foresight.
As Charles closed her eyes, different things began to appear in her mind.
[Creation Magic. 'Clock That Determines Probability' activates.]
She fused the Violet Magic Tower's infinite mana with dozens of Formulae.
Countless possibilities were calculated.
Every one of them was a future that announced her death and Hazard's.
'Even binding him down through the Magic Tower will not be easy.'
It would have been no different even if Hegel Cornelia and Celot Cornelia had been there.
As the number of possibilities began to reach into the hundreds.
'This…….'
One possibility brushed through Charles's mind.
Hazard's Mind Image was connected to her, and she was connected to the Violet Magic Tower.
In other words, Hazard was practically immortal right now.
What if Drago absorbed the heart of an immortal Hazard?
What if, rather than using the Authority of Keys on Drago's Mind Image, with its sturdy barrier, she used it on Hazard?
It was a plan with a high chance of failure.
Even if it succeeded, the creature named Hazard would vanish.
'What a difficult choice.'
Charles's deliberation did not last long.
[Hazard.]
She sent him a message and conveyed the plan.
[……Dragon.]
Hazard calmly accepted his own sacrifice.
He was unlike his usual spoiled and timid self.
[Dragon dragon.]
There was no need to hesitate.
'I am sorry, Hazard.'
Saying there was no need to be sorry, Hazard clung to Drago.
Their claws dug into each other's scales, but it was mostly Hazard's scales that were torn away.
[Grrrrr!!]
Even as he let out a monstrous cry like a scream, Hazard did not retreat.
Instead, he clung on more fiercely in order to tear away even one more of Drago's scales.
Hazard's feelings came through the link formed by synchronization with the Magic Tower.
Hazard was repulsed by the traces of Black Dragon and Green Dragon he sensed in Drago de Lord.
Through Drago's memories, which Charles had shared with him, he learned that the Emperor had killed beings who might have been his biological parents.
He was furious that Drago had joined hands with the Empire that had slaughtered them.
And at last.
CRUNCH!
Drago's claw pierced Hazard's scales.
CRACK!
Hazard's Dragon Heart was pulled out.
Charles unfolded the Formulae she had been preparing with her eyes closed.
Through Hazard's Dragon Heart, which Drago was absorbing, three coordinate values were calculated.
[The White Magic Tower's coordinate values have been calculated.]
[The Black Magic Tower's coordinate values have been calculated.]
[The Red Magic Tower's coordinate values have been calculated.]
The outcome here would affect the outcome of the Great War.
That was because Charles was synchronized with the Violet Magic Tower, and Drago de Lord was also synchronized with the Violet Magic Tower.
The way he had entered the Magic Tower.
He had used the trace she reached when she faced Neptune before.
That space had also belonged to the Monster Lord, so there was nothing strange about it.
It was a problem she had recognized as well.
She simply had not expected him to infiltrate so perfectly using only such a slight trace.
One thing was certain: Drago de Lord was connected to the three Magic Towers.
As the coordinate values of the three Magic Towers were calculated, the coordinates of this place were also revealed to them.
The Mixed-Color Duke should have appeared, yet for some reason, he did not.
'Does he trust Drago de Lord?'
Or had something happened that prevented him from attending to this place?
Either way, it was an opportunity for Charles.
'If I must choose one, it will be the Red Magic Tower.'
The Formula the Red Magic Tower was activating had eluded them until now, but it was possible now.
She summoned another superhuman synchronized with her.
"Huh~?"
A Walker in an owl mask tilted her head.
She seemed bewildered by the sudden summoning and the Gate before her.
[Orchid.]
Shimmer.
Violet mana wrapped around Orchid Owl's body once.
"Ah."
Orchid Owl parted her lips slightly.
Charles had transmitted the memories of Drago de Lord that she had peered into, along with the plan to bring down the Red Magic Tower using Hazard.
[I need your help.]
As with Hazard, the words were no different from asking her to give up her life.
"Hee hee hee."
Yet Orchid Owl merely laughed.
Then.
"All right~"
Swish—
Without asking a single question, she stepped through the Gate before her.
The traces of her steps and mana she left behind were recorded in the Violet Magic Tower.
Charles looked at Drago, who was absorbing Hazard's Dragon Heart.
"Drago de Lord."
Rumble—
Immense Haki shook the entire area as though it would allow not even the slightest attack.
"That will be the last Dragon Heart you ever take."
