Reincarnation in the Three Kingdoms Era with a System
Chapter 1005 Cannon Fodder Tactics
Chapter 1005: 1005 Cannon Fodder Tactics
Seeing that the enemy was still using the same old battle tactics, Caesar felt relieved.
He wasn’t worried about the strength of the opponent, but rather about unforeseen circumstances.
Furthermore, to counter enemy sniping, he had all the commanding captains dressed in ordinary soldier’s clothes. From captains to centurions, everyone was dressed in ordinary attire, maximizing their chances of being sniped!
And even if a chiliarch was killed, the other centurions were ordered to kill as many enemies as possible, until there were no more enemies in sight.
It could be said that Caesar had made every effort to deal with the Qin army.
He had even prepared numerous traps, but they had all been discovered and hadn’t been effective.
Now, a fair battle was underway, with hundreds of thousands of people gathered outside Rome, inevitably leading to mountains of corpses and seas of blood. Countless people would die here!
Caesar’s gaze pierced through the distance, vaguely catching sight of the Qin emperor. A formidable opponent; if all else failed, a decapitation strike could be carried out!
Killing the commander would make it all worthwhile!
Boom!
Explosive charges rained down, the explosions sending limbs flying, yet the army charged.
The left flank consisted of Egyptian and Viking troops, the right flank of Crusaders and Russian forces, and the center of the army was entirely Roman.
At a command, the army charged.
A cavalry charge!
They charged at top speed, their aim to penetrate the enemy lines and engage in close combat.
The pressure on the soldiers at the front intensified; if their strength was exhausted and they faced a rout, it could trigger a chain reaction.
Catherine, also in military attire, stood on the city wall.
Because of the distance, she couldn’t see clearly, only that the charging cavalry were falling in droves!
Both the left and right flanks of cavalry were halted.
The first time she saw the Qin army, their black-clad, black-armored ranks and orderly formations made them seem like an army of death, there to reap lives!
The first charge failed, and a second volley of haystacks began to be hurled.
Archers on the siege tower were also aiming; their task was to kill commanders, captains, and centurions—all targets.
If they couldn’t see clearly, they’d just shoot based on feel.
The Romans also had catapults. When the catapults were pushed forward,
the messengers on the siege tower blew whistles and began waving flags.
This signaled to the catapult troops below. The officers below, receiving the flag signals, would determine the direction and distance, and then adjust their positions.
Thud, thud, thud!
The charging allied troops fell one after another, yet more rushed forward. Behind them were the overseers; retreating meant certain death, so charging forward was preferable.
Perhaps they could fight for a sliver of hope, perhaps even a precious chance of survival!
Lu Ming merely watched the carnage below as a stabilizing force, only stepping forward to command when the situation spiraled out of control.
Destroy the enemy’s catapults, then use crossbows to mow them down.
Once enough is left, reserve some crossbow bolts for later close combat.
After fighting for half a day, under the blazing sun, neither side retreated.
The first wave of 50,000 men was wiped out; those who survived lay dead on the ground.
The second wave surged forward like a tide, with allied forces on the left and right flanks also advancing.
With few crossbow bolts remaining, Lu Ming ordered the crossbowmen to retreat, while the infantry and pikemen moved forward, using their battle formation to mow down the enemy.
A standard formation: infantry guarding the front, pikemen behind, medics and archers in the center, converging from all sides to form an impenetrable formation.
Many such formations existed, spread out like sharp blades among the numerous allied troops, beginning to grind flesh!
Shouts!
Grumps!
Screams!
Crows and vultures began circling overhead; this was a feast, a sumptuous meal!
The Roman nobles and allied soldiers on the city walls watched with trepidation. They never imagined that even with 100,000 men, they still couldn’t break through the defenses!
The Qin army’s battle line contracted, but half the soldiers remained outside, their battle formation reaping lives!
Every so often, their positions shifted.
Those in the front moved to the back, those in the back moved to the front, relieving pressure and allowing them to recover their strength.
Swords and spears were blocked by shield-bearers; taking advantage of the moment of weakness, a spear swiftly thrust in from behind, instantly killing the Roman soldier, then withdrawing the spear.
This scene played out repeatedly on the battlefield. The seemingly abandoned 50,000 men were actually part of a meticulously planned killing formation, designed to grind flesh!
Niu Fu appeared utterly frenzied, even seizing a Roman soldier and biting off his ear, eating it alive!
His blood-soaked, crazed state mirrored that of his Xiliang legions, terrifying the Roman troops and causing their morale to plummet, on the verge of collapse.
Meanwhile, the allied forces on the flanks had crumbled, and Lü Bu and Zhao Yun led their cavalry in a counterattack.
Behind these two killing machines were numerous highly skilled generals, including warriors from the Three Kingdoms period and heroes from Liangshan, forming a powerful arrowhead that pierced through the allied forces on both flanks, launching a pincer attack on the Roman army in the center!
Julius Caesar, seeing the situation deteriorating, ordered the third echelon of legions to launch a general offensive.
He himself led his Caesar’s Legion in the charge. Now that the enemy had exhausted their resources and their ballistae were depleted, it was time to charge!
"For Rome! Charge!"
"For Rome!"
"Kill!"
Caesar himself took to the field, and the morale of the entire legion soared. They began their charge, leaping over the corpses on the ground.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
The mournful sound of horns echoed, and the Qin army, still in the center, began to break through to the flanks, revealing the open space in the middle.
Caesar’s legion could advance unimpeded, seemingly unstoppable.
Before they could even rejoice, the next second, they were terrified!
Because the ballistae were brought out again.
This time, they were equipped with two-meter-long bolts!
With a whoosh, the bolts, propelled by their powerful springs, pierced directly through the leading soldiers of Caesar’s legion!
Those muscular, valiant gladiators were utterly helpless against it!
No matter how strong flesh and blood may be, it cannot compare to steel!
The Qin soldiers were wounded, but with buffs active, they only lost health, not blood, allowing them to retain their fighting strength to the greatest extent possible. Meanwhile, the enemy soldiers could only wait to die!
