Nianyang held the warm eggs given by He Suzhi in her hand, feeling amused yet a bit warm.

It seems that there are still simple people in this residential compound.

Apart from the outdated gender preferences, He Suzhi is quite nice.

Because of these eggs, Nianyang decided that she should find a chance to change her old-fashioned thinking in the future.

They’re all one’s children. Aren’t both sons and daughters blessings from heaven?

To be honest, Nianyang felt that daughters are more comforting. If she were to have two daughters, just imagine having two little sweethearts calling her mom every day in a sweet voice, life would be hopeful.

The next morning, Nianyang got up to wash up, then the door was knocked. She went to open the door and saw a young guy in a sailor’s outfit. He blushed as soon as he saw Nianyang and lifted the breakfast he was holding.

"Saozi, Sheng Feng asked me to bring you breakfast. Enjoy your meal."

Nianyang took it, thanked him, and the young guy turned around blushing as he left, thinking to himself how a fairy-like Saozi could end up with someone like Li Ye.

Nianyang had no idea what was on the young guy’s mind. She opened the breakfast and unsurprisingly, it was vegetable porridge and steamed buns. She sighed, put them into her space, and went to make milk and eat eggs.

Life here was just like the countryside in the seventies and eighties, and she couldn’t figure out how Li Tingyan tolerated it.

If not for her space, Nianyang would not have come at all; enduring hardship herself was one thing, but she couldn’t let the child suffer.

After breakfast, He Suzhi came again and invited Nianyang out for a walk. Every day, besides taking care of kids and farming, people here had nothing to do and liked to chat and stroll in groups.

Since Li Tingyan was expected to return at night, Nianyang found it boring to be alone. It would be good to go out and learn more about the surrounding area, so she went out with He Suzhi.

Nianyang followed He Suzhi through the compound, with many people eyeing this new Saozi. Mei Yanfang was feeding her dirty son. She turned her head as if she hadn’t seen them and, in front of the two, dragged another Saozi to say,

"The two poorest Saozi in our compound have gathered. They must be up to some mischief. Let’s keep a distance, beware of being taken advantage of."

One of the Saozi with raised eyebrows stared at Nianyang’s belly,

"But this young Saozi looks well cared for; she must be six months pregnant. I wonder if it’s a boy or a girl."

"Definitely a girl," someone else said. "Look at her small hips and weak build; she can’t give birth to a son."

Mei Yanfang patted her son proudly and said,

"Exactly, not everyone is lucky enough like me to have a son. He Saozi, who can’t lay eggs, is clinging to Chu Saozi, probably hoping to get some luck."

The words drifted over, causing He Suzhi’s eyes to redden,

"Chu Saozi, don’t listen to their nonsense. I didn’t find you because I wanted luck; it’s just I can’t have children. They all say I’m a cursed star, and no one wants to befriend me. If you mind this, I won’t appear before you again."

Nianyang chuckled and said, "Having children is a matter of fate. How can that make you a cursed star? Don’t listen to their drivel."

Seeing Nianyang didn’t despise her, He Suzhi felt relieved, but still said sadly, "It’s not just drivel; I feel I am a cursed star. I’ve been married for three years, and nothing has happened with my belly."
