Chapter 622 - 620 Fireworks Display
Chapter 622: Chapter 620 Fireworks Display
Tonight, Yancheng was different. Even though the clock had quietly passed midnight, the streets were still dotted with lingering lights and filled with a constant stream of pedestrians, as if the city was immersed in a sleepless vitality. The deep night could not hide its vibrant energy; a story hid beneath every lamp, and the rhythm of life echoed with every footstep.
Xue Yang and Lin Xi strolled hand in hand down the wide road. Under the soft glow of the streetlights, their figures appeared exceptionally warm and harmonious, drawing glances from passersby who looked on with envy or silent blessings. The perfect pair had become a beautiful part of the nightscape, making people want to steal another look to feel the sweet happiness that radiated from them.
Amidst the lingering aroma of coffee, Si Wen and Sun Yufei finished their pleasant chat, ready to head home and enjoy the tranquility of the night. Just then, a snippet of conversation drifted to their ears.
"I heard there’s going to be a gorgeous fireworks show by the river at one-thirty tonight! We should hurry and get a good spot!" one pedestrian said, their voice full of anticipation.
"Really? No way," the other replied, sounding incredulous.
"It’s absolutely true! If you don’t believe me, I’m heading over now. Don’t say I didn’t warn you, and don’t come crying to me when you miss it!"
With that, the pair hurried away.
The exchange didn’t escape Si Wen and Sun Yufei. They looked at each other and smiled, their eyes twinkling with the same spark of interest in this unexpected delight.
"Should we go check it out?" Si Wen proposed, her voice brimming with eagerness.
Sun Yufei’s lips curled into a smile as she nodded. "I was just thinking the same thing."
And so, in perfect agreement, they abandoned their plans to go home. Instead, they set out for the riverside, eagerly anticipating the spectacle that would soon light up the night sky. At the same time, they couldn’t help but wonder who was hosting it, since none of Yancheng’s prominent families had announced a fireworks show.
Meanwhile, Xue Yang and Lin Xi were also making their way toward the riverside.
"Xue Yang, what are we going to do at the river?" Lin Xi asked, tilting her head to look at him, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.
Xue Yang smiled faintly. "I heard there’s a grand fireworks show by the river at one-thirty tonight. I thought we could go watch."
"A fireworks show? Really?" Lin Xi’s eyes lit up instantly. The faint regret she felt from not being able to celebrate the New Year’s countdown was swept away by a sudden wave of joy. Her face beamed with excitement and anticipation, as if the surprise had illuminated her entire being.
Xue Yang smiled tenderly and nodded. "It’s true."
"Then let’s hurry!" Lin Xi exclaimed, her eyes gleaming with impatience. She practically dragged Xue Yang along, quickening their pace toward the river.
Watching her excitement, Xue Yang shook his head with a helpless but indulgent smile. He followed obediently, savoring this moment of simple, pure joy.
Just five minutes later, they arrived at the riverside, but the sight that greeted them made them pause. The area was already packed with a bustling, extraordinarily lively crowd. The throng of people surged before them, making it nearly impossible to see any open space, let alone a good spot to watch the fireworks. From their current position, all they could see was a sea of heads. The resplendent fireworks that were about to bloom in the sky seemed hopelessly out of reach.
Despite this, Lin Xi didn’t look disappointed at all; in fact, she seemed even more excited. She grabbed Xue Yang’s hand and began weaving through the crowd, searching for any gap that might get them closer to the riverbank. Xue Yang followed her silently, treasuring this moment and wanting to protect her pure, simple happiness.
After weaving through the crowd for a while, Lin Xi finally stopped, a flicker of regret on her face. "There are too many people," she said softly, a hint of helplessness in her voice. "We probably won’t be able to see the fireworks."
Xue Yang gently squeezed her hand. A mysterious smile touched his lips as he whispered, "Follow me."
