Chapter 684: Chapter 684: You Orchestrated All of This, Didn’t You?
Mrs. Yates was practically spitting blood when she heard that.
What do you mean, ’she’ll definitely hurt you’?
And what’s this about ’what important things could you possibly have to say to her’?
What’s wrong with me?!
Mrs. Yates roared indignantly, "Shut up! How dare you offend me? Believe it or not, I’ll have you out of a job by tomorrow and make sure you can’t survive in Lynton anymore!"
"Fine. No need to wait until tomorrow. Let’s make it so he can’t survive here, starting right now." Annabelle’s lips curled into a smirk as she imperiously crossed her legs, looking at Mrs. Yates with disdain.
"You—"
The color drained from Mrs. Yates’s face. "Who do you think you are, talking to me like that? Annabelle Linton, if you have any guts, come at me directly! Don’t you feel like winning with such underhanded tactics is dishonorable?"
Annabelle scoffed. "For someone like you? Do you think I need to use conventional methods? You get the treatment you deserve. You complain I’m playing dirty? Then what, should I erase your memory? Or maybe leave you bedridden for a year? Would *that* count as coming at you directly? I don’t think so, do you, Mrs. Yates?"
Hearing this, Mrs. Yates froze solid. Her head snapped around to stare at Annabelle.
The police officers nearby looked back and forth between them, completely baffled.
Annabelle then looked at the police. "Alright, thank you, officers. I have something to discuss with her. Could you please step outside for a moment?"
The officers were clearly reluctant to leave. If anything happened to Annabelle, they would be in deep trouble.
But they were also wary of displeasing her. After a moment’s hesitation, one of them said, "Alright then, Mrs. Grant, how about this: we’ll stand guard right outside. If anything happens, be sure to scream. We’ll rush in the second we hear anything!"
Annabelle looked at Mrs. Yates, a chilling smile playing on her lips as she nodded. "Alright."
After the police left, Mrs. Yates, her face pale, stared at Annabelle and asked with a tremor in her voice, "Annabelle Linton, tell me, you know something, don’t you? Tell me! You know something! Say it!"
"Know what?"
Annabelle watched her with a placid gaze, tilting her head with a look of pure innocence. "’Know what?’ Let me think... Is it that I know you erased Leona Grant’s memory? Or that you conspired with Yvonne Miller to send me away to another city and used drugs to keep me bedridden for a year? Or perhaps..."
"Stop talking! Don’t say another word!"
Mrs. Yates cried out, cutting her off. She began pacing back and forth frantically, clutching her hair, her face ashen. She kept muttering, "It wasn’t me! It wasn’t me!"
As Mrs. Yates was having her meltdown, something suddenly clicked. She looked up in horror. "Annabelle Linton... it was you. It was all you—"
A smile touched Annabelle’s lips, and a rare glimmer of approval appeared in her otherwise indifferent eyes. "Looks like you’re not entirely stupid," she said softly.
At this, Mrs. Yates completely snapped. "It was you!" she shrieked like a madwoman. "Annabelle Linton, you knew everything all along, didn’t you? And you played along, using my own plan against me! You deliberately set me up at the auction to make a mistake, and then you had me thrown in here, leaving me isolated and helpless!"
"You even knew about all my husband’s wrongdoings! You planned it all, waiting for the perfect moment to catch us completely off guard, didn’t you?! All of this, every single thing, was your doing, wasn’t it! You’re vicious! Such a vicious woman! Annabelle Linton, how can you have such a black heart!"
Hearing this, Annabelle gave her a long, deep look, her eyes turning frigid.
"Black-hearted? Me?" she asked. "Compared to you, Mrs. Yates, I’m an amateur. I could never compare."
