Repairing A Broken Home With My Patriarch System

Chapter 117: A Chance Worth Taking

That evening, Ethan sat on the sofa with his phone in hand, staring at Lucas’s contact.

He had already made up his mind to give Lucas the Fertility Pill, but he still needed to explain things properly. Although he had told himself that the pill would probably work as the system described, he couldn’t completely dismiss the possibility of something going wrong.

’Well, I’ve already decided. There’s no point in dragging this out any longer.’

With that thought, Ethan pressed the call button and waited. The call connected after a few seconds.

"Brother Ethan! Good evening. Do you need my help with something?"

Lucas’s voice came through the phone, sounding as composed as ever.

Ethan shook his head, amused by the question.

"Nothing serious. I just wanted us to meet somewhere. There’s something important I need to give you."

"Something important?" Lucas paused briefly before asking, "What is it? Can’t you tell me over the phone?"

"No. It’s better if we meet in person. Are you free this evening?" Ethan asked.

"Of course. Just tell me where you want to meet."

Ethan glanced toward the window before replying, "There’s a small teashop not far from my place. I’ll send you the address."

"All right. I’ll be there soon."

After ending the call, Ethan stood up and headed toward the bedroom to change his clothes. He had no intention of dressing up just to meet Lucas, so he settled for something comfortable before leaving the house.

The teashop was situated along a relatively quiet street, away from the busier parts of Arcane City. It wasn’t particularly luxurious, but the interior was clean, and the atmosphere was peaceful enough for a private conversation.

When Ethan arrived, Lucas was already there.

The older man sat near the window with a cup of tea before him. He was dressed in a dark suit, and his phone lay beside his hand as he occasionally glanced at the entrance.

Seeing Ethan walk in, Lucas immediately raised his hand.

"Brother Ethan, over here!"

Ethan approached the table and took the seat opposite him.

"Have you been waiting long?"

"Not really." Lucas smiled. "I arrived a few minutes ago."

Ethan nodded and glanced at the menu a waiter brought over. After ordering a cup of tea, he leaned back in his seat.

Lucas studied him curiously.

"All right, Brother Ethan. What is this important thing you wanted to give me?"

Ethan reached into his pocket and brought out a small, carefully sealed container. He placed it on the table and pushed it toward Lucas.

"This is what I wanted to give you."

Lucas stared at the container before looking back at Ethan. "What is it?"

"A pill," He answered.

"..." Lucas blinked.

For a moment, he wondered whether he had heard correctly. He looked at the small container again, then at Ethan, who appeared perfectly serious.

"A pill?" he repeated, his expression becoming strange. "Brother Ethan, are you telling me you called me all the way here just to give me a pill?"

Ethan rolled his eyes. "What? Do you want me to take it back?"

"No, that’s not what I mean!" Lucas hurriedly waved his hand, then lowered his voice when he noticed the curious glance from someone at the next table. "I’m just wondering what kind of pill it is."

Ethan leaned forward slightly. "It’s related to what we discussed the other day."

Lucas’s expression changed. He immediately understood what Ethan was referring to.

For a few seconds, he stared at the container without saying anything. Then he slowly raised his head.

"Brother Ethan, are you saying this could help my wife?"

Ethan nodded.

"After doing some research, I found that this pill could be used to treat infertility. From what I gathered, it has a success rate of about ninety percent."

Lucas froze. "Ninety percent?"

His voice came out louder than he intended, causing him to glance around before lowering it again.

"Ninety percent?" He repeated, staring at Ethan in disbelief. "Are you serious?"

"Do I look like I’m joking?" Ethan raised an eyebrow.

Lucas swallowed, his fingers tightening around the edge of the table.

For years, he and his wife had visited hospitals, consulted specialists, and tried different treatments. Each time they thought they had found a possible solution, they were met with another disappointment.

Eventually, he had stopped getting his hopes up whenever someone mentioned a new treatment.

Yet Ethan was sitting in front of him, casually offering something that supposedly had a ninety percent success rate.

How could he remain calm?

"Where did you get this?" Lucas asked after a moment. "And are you sure about the success rate? Has it been tested properly?"

Ethan took a sip of his tea before answering.

"I did my research. That’s all you need to know for now."

Lucas frowned slightly.

"Brother Ethan, you can’t expect me to give something like this to my wife without asking questions. What if there are complications? What if it causes other problems?"

Ethan paused, his expression becoming thoughtful.

Those were reasonable concerns. If he were in Lucas’s position, he would probably ask the same questions.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t exactly tell Lucas that the pill had appeared in his possession as a reward from a mysterious system that seemed capable of accomplishing the impossible.

Even if Lucas believed him, it would only create more questions.

"It’s not something I can explain in detail," Ethan replied. "But I’ve looked into it enough to believe it’s worth trying."

Lucas looked down at the container again. "Still..."

Ethan sighed. "Lucas, I understand your concerns, but you can’t spend the rest of your life worrying about every possible outcome. You’ve already tried so many treatments without success. Now, you’ve got another opportunity. Why not take it?"

Lucas remained silent.

Ethan continued, his tone casual. "Of course, I’m not forcing you. If you don’t want it, give it back to me. If you do, then take it home and discuss it with your wife."

He leaned back in his chair and shrugged.

"If it works, great. If it doesn’t, then I guess it’s just bad luck."

Lucas stared at him.

’Brother Ethan really makes everything sound so simple.’

Despite his thoughts, Lucas couldn’t help smiling faintly. Ethan had always been like this. He rarely went out of his way to explain himself, and when he decided to help someone, he usually did it without expecting anything in return.

After a moment, Lucas picked up the container and held it carefully.

"Thank you, Brother Ethan."

Ethan waved his hand dismissively.

"Don’t thank me yet. You haven’t even tried it."

"I know." Lucas nodded, his expression serious. "But you’ve already done more than most people would."

He paused before asking one final question.

"Are you certain there won’t be any serious complications?"

Ethan’s smile faltered for the briefest moment.

He had been hoping Lucas wouldn’t ask that question again.

’How would I know? The system said it cures infertility completely, but it never gave me a detailed list of possible side effects. Damn it. I hope there really aren’t any.’

He maintained his composure and shrugged.

"From what I found, there shouldn’t be. But you should still discuss it with your wife before she takes it. I don’t want you rushing into anything without considering it properly."

Lucas nodded. "Understood."

He carefully placed the container inside his jacket pocket, treating it as though it were something extremely valuable.

For the first time in a long while, he felt a little hope returning to his heart.
