Repairing A Broken Home With My Patriarch System
Chapter 59: Ethan Is Suspicious?
The week soon came to an end, and just like Evelyn hoped, she had managed to sell more than half of the fruits in her shop. There were losses, though. After all, some fruits didn’t have a long shelf life.
Still, she wasn’t disappointed. In just a week, she had already gotten some loyal customers who came to buy from her every day.
With her warm personality and Cassandra’s enthusiasm for business, the customers quickly became friendly with them.
Evelyn also adopted Ethan’s smoothie strategy, giving them suggestions and making them buy more than usual. Once they got used to it, they didn’t stop buying.
Ethan quickly recovered from the cold and started following her to the shop again. He didn’t have to work, though. So most of the time, he simply taught Nora some basics in the subjects she would be studying soon once school resumed.
Today in particular, he gave the little girl an exercise to work on, then checked her happiness meter. To his surprise, it had doubled.
[Daughter’s Happiness: 6.77%]
A small smile appeared on his face. At least she was starting to improve. Although the percentage was still small, it wasn’t disappointing at all.
Checking his phone, he saw a message from Lucas asking him if he was free. Ethan thought about it, then replied with a yes.
Not even five minutes later, a familiar limousine stopped right outside their shop.
Cassandra was a little surprised, thinking it was her brother. However, she wasn’t sure he had this kind of car.
Sure enough, it was another man who came down from the vehicle.
Evelyn recognized him and smiled. "Hello, Mr. Stark."
The man smiled back and waved. "Haha, how have you been doing? And no need to be formal, you can call me by my name."
Nodding, Evelyn said, "I’m doing fine, Lucas. Thank you."
Then, she turned around to inform Ethan about the man’s arrival.
It wasn’t necessary, though, as Ethan himself had already come out of the shop. He picked at his ear with his pinky finger and looked at Lucas with a faint smile.
"You finally showed your face. What’s the matter this time?"
Lucas’s smile brightened, and he quickly said, "Brother Ethan, it’s not that I don’t want to show my face. I’ve just been having so many meetings that I feel tired. Sigh. You won’t understand me since you’re always spending time with your family and not scheming business partners."
Evelyn smiled slightly at his words, and he shook his head.
"Anyway, I came to you because someone wants to consult you. A good friend of mine. So I was wondering if you’d want to meet up with him?"
Ethan slowly nodded, then turned to Evelyn. "Looks like work is calling. Am I free to go?"
Her eyes widened, and she hurriedly waved her hands. "Ehhh?! I can’t stop you, you know? You should go already."
Ethan smiled and planted a kiss on her forehead before turning to Lucas. "Alright, let’s go."
Lucas smiled and led him to the car.
"Wahhh! That was so romantic!" Cassandra squealed quietly, causing Evelyn to blush.
She lightly rubbed her forehead and smiled.
"Eve!"
Hearing her name being called, she raised her head.
"Ah, Cassie."
She smiled a little and waved at her. Her black-haired friend skipped towards her and looked at the shop in awe.
"You got a shop this big? Eve, share your secret to me."
She grinned and laughed, enveloping her friend in a warm hug.
Evelyn laughed dryly and ushered her inside.
Cassie glanced at Cassandra and smiled, "Hello, there."
Cassandra smiled back. "Hi."
After introducing the two of them, Evelyn focused on her friend. "So how has it been? You’ve recovered from the heartbreak, right?"
Cassie nodded and sat down. She noticed Nora studying and didn’t bother to disturb her. Nora also pretended not to see her, focusing on her book.
"Well, I’m not the topic of today, though." She smiled and turned to Evelyn. "I saw a black limousine leave your shop just now. Was that Ethan or ’someone else’?"
Looking at her suggestive expression, Evelyn’s lips twitched. "It was Ethan and not someone else."
Blinking, Cassie pretended to be surprised. "Wow! He actually has that much money? I thought he was a broke person. Did he also get this shop for you?"
Evelyn nodded with a smile, though she wasn’t really feeling comfortable. Something felt off, and she quickly realized it.
’Cassie used to hate Ethan to the bone. Why is she acting like this?’
She didn’t ask, though. After all, she didn’t want to bring up any topic of the past.
"You really hit it big time, Eve." Cassie grinned. "But is he reliable? He won’t suddenly run off with another woman, will he?"
Evelyn frowned. "Ethan isn’t like that. I trust him."
"I know, I know." The black-haired lady nodded. "It’s natural for you to trust your husband. But I’m just telling you to be on the lookout."
She lowered her voice and leaned closer. "You never know if he’s seeing someone. Make sure you always track him, alright?"
Evelyn shook her head. "I’m not doing that, Cassie. I trust Ethan more than you think."
Still trying to stress her point, Cassie continued. "You know... I used to see him in brothels back when you guys still lived in our city. He has slept with quite a number of ladies. And you know the saying, old habits die hard."
"Ugh," Evelyn grunted and raised her hand. "That’s enough about Ethan. Don’t say anything more or I’ll get angry."
Cassie raised her hands in surrender. "Alright, alright. Don’t say I didn’t warn you."
Inwardly, she was smiling. ’A seed of doubt has been planted. Once she starts doubting him, it won’t take long before she finds something. And then, I’ll push Chris to comfort her and have Ethan for myself. I didn’t even know that guy was filthy rich.’
Unknown to her, there wasn’t even the slightest doubt in Evelyn’s heart. After all, she chose to trust Ethan, and she would stick to her choice.
