Chapter 86: Let It Go

Jason went back upstairs a few minutes later while Nora continued crying. Ethan didn’t know why she was crying so much, so he could only hug her and pat her back.

Even though Nora had lived a life where Victor hadn’t swapped places with Ethan, she was still a child. After all, it was on her seventeenth birthday that she died from an asthma attack.

Back then, she had been alone and had no one to care for her. Hence, she deeply hated Ethan to the point where she always considered killing him every night whenever he was asleep.

However, as much as she hated him, this version of Ethan failed to meet her expectations.

It was as if he had been swapped with someone else. However, she doubted that. After all, she still noticed several old habits in him.

Still, he wasn’t worth her hatred. Only after living with him for several weeks did she realize that it was indeed true that you couldn’t hate a smiling face.

After all the repeated back and forth struggle within her, she finally decided to let go of the hatred she had carried from her past life and live like a normal kid for now.

’I... I’ll forget it...’

She thought as she felt Ethan’s hand patting her head gently. Instinctively, her small hands clung around his shirt, and she finally stopped sobbing.

Ethan continued patting her head even though she had stopped crying, only stopping when she finally raised her head to look at him.

Her eyes were red and puffy from the tears, making her look cute and weak.

Ethan’s heart softened, and he wiped her tears with his fingers.

"Well, do you want to play games now or after you study?"

Nora hesitated, still reeling from her recent decision.

"I... I want to sleep. Let’s go to the bedroom with Mommy."

Ethan blinked, surprised. He smiled at her and nodded. Still holding her in his arms, he stood up and headed to his old room.

Since everyone was idle at the moment, taking a little nap wouldn’t hurt. Evelyn was curled up on the bed, fast asleep.

Ethan gently lay beside her without disturbing, turning to face her while he laid Nora down between them.

He gestured to the girl to keep quiet and mouthed, "Don’t make noise. We shouldn’t wake her up."

Nora understood him and nodded, remaining silent.

Ethan carefully pulled the bed cover and covered everyone, including Evelyn while making sure he didn’t wake her.

Nora watched him with a conflicted look in her eyes, holding back more tears that threatened to fall.

Patting her head, Ethan whispered. "You should sleep now. We’ll solve maths in the evening."

Nora’s eyes widened, and she pouted grumpily. Ethan poked her lips teasingly and closed his eyes, immediately falling asleep after a few minutes.

Meanwhile, Nora remained awake, staring at the ceiling.

’Is this why I came back? To live a life that’s actually good? Not to get revenge?’

Her eyes flickered with several emotions as she thought about her previous life. It definitely wasn’t the worst in human history, but it had been hell for her.

When she had regressed as a child again, her first objective was to protect her mother and make Ethan pay. That had been her goal. Now, however, her goal had been reshaped.

’I’m going to live like any normal girl raised by loving parents... right?’

A small smile appeared on her face, and she closed her eyes.

Before long, her breathing became even and she fell asleep.

It wasn’t until around 6 PM when one of them woke up.

Evelyn yawned and stretched her arms, slowly opening her eyes.

’Hm?’

She blinked in surprise, seeing Ethan and Nora beside her. When did they join her on the bed?

She didn’t know, but the sight pleased her. A faint smile appeared on her lips, and she gently left a kiss on Nora’s head. The little girl’s brows furrowed slightly, but she didn’t wake up.

Evelyn shifted slightly so she wouldn’t disturb her, then leaned toward Ethan to peck him too.

Before her lips could touch his forehead, his index finger stopped them. Her eyes widened, but before she could pull back, Ethan pulled his finger away and kissed her on the lips.

Evelyn blinked in surprise, and after a few seconds, she pulled away with a smile on her face.

Ethan opened his eyes and stared at her with a teasing smirk.

"Being sneaky, are we?" He chuckled.

Evelyn blushed and quickly got out of bed without disturbing Nora. Shooting one last glance at Ethan, she fled the room.

Ethan yawned and closed his eyes again. He was still feeling sleepy, so he decided to stay a little more.

Besides, he didn’t want to leave Nora’s side yet.

Meanwhile, Evelyn walked around the house only to realize that Ethan’s parents were also asleep in their room.

With nothing to do, she decided to look around first. Going to the backyard, she found Prat aggressively tackling its empty plate. It paused when she came outside, then walked over to her while carrying the plate in its mouth.

Clang!

It dropped the plate before her, then looked at her with puppy eyes even though it was no longer a puppy.

Evelyn smiled, then went back into the house to search for dog food. She soon found the cereals and came back to pour a little for the pet.

It wagged its tail at her and immediately began eating, consuming large amounts in just one bite.

Evelyn crouched by its side and watched it eat, fascinated. Soon, it emptied the plate, licking it clean.

Evelyn poured some water for it, and it immediately drank the water too. Finally satisfied, the dog walked over to her and allowed her to pet it. She brushed its fur as it lay on the ground, eyes closed.

After she got bored and realized it was already asleep, Evelyn got up and went back into the house. She checked the kitchen to confirm that the necessary ingredients for dinner were available, then prepared to cook.

Even without Ethan teaching her, she was a good cook. And since he had given her a few tips, she was even better.

With a smile on her face and an apron tied around her waist, she began cooking.
