Chapter 88: Updates

Evelyn and Maria watched in surprise as Jason went over to collect the keys from the driver before turning to them.

Seeing the questions in the eyes of his wife, Jason smiled stiffly. "Courtesy of your son, of course. He decided to surprise me with this yesterday. I didn’t even know he was serious until I saw it this morning."

Ethan’s lips twitched. "What do you mean you didn’t know? You literally picked the goddamn car."

Jason tilted his head. "Did I?"

Ignoring him, Maria turned to Ethan and hugged him.

"You just keep making me proud of you, Ethan. I know your father probably hasn’t thanked you, but I want to personally thank you for this. We really appreciate it."

’We?’ Jason raised an eyebrow, surprised. Since when did it become ’we’? He didn’t dare voice his thoughts, though.

Ethan patted his mother’s back and nodded. "It’s nothing, actually. I just helped him replace his spoilt car. If you want to get one too, let me know."

Maria shook her head. "No, I don’t need a car. Where am I going that I’d need one? If I really need to go somewhere, I’ll just have Jason drive me."

Jason’s lips twitched, and he started wondering if he had made a mistake by actually accepting the car.

"Alright, let’s get going. We’re all riding in the car."

Maria said firmly as she walked over to the car, entering the pasanger’s seat beside the driver’s seat.

Ethan, Evelyn and Nora sat at the back while Jason got into the driver’s seat.

Flashing a wide grin at Nora through the rearview mirror, Jason said, "Sit tight and watch this cool man drive you to the station."

Ethan rolled his eyes while Nora nodded with a smile, interested.

Jason started the car and slowly drove out of the compound, getting them onto the streets again.

Then, he joined the traffic and headed to the train station.

The road wasn’t busy so they got there early. Maria and Jason saw them off until they entered the train itself.

Only after confirming that they were indeed gone did the old couple get back into their car and return home. The ride was quieter than usual.

Meanwhile, Ethan and his family spent the next few hours on the train, quietly enjoying their ride to Arcane City.

Instead of watching the movie being streamed today, Evelyn simply may her head against Ethan’s shoulder and closed her eyes.

He glanced at her, then remained in the same position so he wouldn’t disturb her sleep.

Nora also copied her mother, leaning against Ethan’s arm and falling asleep.

Glancing at the mother-daughter pair, he smiled weakly.

By the time they got off the train, his arms felt heavy like lead. After all, he hadn’t moved even an inch since they rested on him.

"Does that hurt?" Evelyn asked, feeling a little guilty as she watched him roll his arms.

"Nahh, it’s fine," He said, flashing a sharp wink at her.

Evelyn smiled and nodded. "Alright."

After recovering a little, they finally left the train station and headed home.

Taking the luggage out from the taxi’s boot, Ethan paid the driver, then headed inside since Evelyn had already opened the gate.

Their house was just as they left it, pristine and untouched.

After settling inside, the first thing Ethan did was to call Vincent. While Evelyn and Nora rested in the living room, he was already thinking about business again.

The call connected quickly, and Vincent’s voice came through.

"Ethan, good call. I was just about to tell you that everything has been repaired. You can open the shop tomorrow if you want."

Hearing that, Ethan’s eyes narrowed. "You bought fruits too? Hm?"

Vincent cleared his throat and answered, "Well, my sister requested it so I just added it to the expenses."

Ethan hummed quietly, nodding. "Alright, I’ll thank her later. Thanks for the help. How is your family doing?"

"Ah, yes." Vincent’s voice eased slightly. "We’re doing very fine. I’m thinking of sending my son to that government school you mentioned. Looks like they’d be good over there."

Ethan nodded. "Trust me, they would. It’s not like it’s a new school anyway. They already have a system being used for all their students before so you don’t need to worry."

Vincent hummed in approval. "Alright, thank you. I have to go now."

Ethan nodded and ended the call with him.

He rolled his shoulders and called Lucas next. The call didn’t connect during the first time, but Lucas immediately called back.

"Haha, Hello, Brother Ethan," He greeted cheerfully, sounding excited.

Ethan smiled a little. "Good news?"

"Yes, yes, yes," Lucas said repeatedly, a short laugh escaping his lips. "I already signed the ownership documents over the Yin and Yang Games. Also, I’ve already cut off all connections with the Mobos Game Company. They’re definitely going to feel the impact very soon."

Ethan smiled faintly. "Good. That’s enough for now. When it’s time for the next part of my plan, I’ll let you know."

"Hehe," Lucas chuckled. "Brother Ethan, I can’t help but think you’re an old foggie with scheming abilities like a demon. I can’t help but fear for Samuel, not gonna lie.

Ethan laughed lightly, carefully ignoring what he had said. "Go on. Don’t forget what I asked you to do with the Yin and Yang Games. Otherwise, it’d be a waste of investment for you."

Lucas hummed. "Understood, Brother Ethan. I’ll do that now."

Ethan nodded and ended the call. Pocketing his phone, he returned to the living room where Evelyn and Nora were, watching the TV.

"The shop has been repaired. Do you want to go and check? The goods are ready too."

Evelyn’s eyes widened. "Really? That fast?"

Ethan nodded with a faint smile. "I have competent friends, after all."

Evelyn smiled and stood up excitedly.

"Alright, let’s go! It’s still morning so it’s not too late to open the shop today. I was about to get bored to death wuth staying idle at home."

Ethan smiled, aware of that. It had taken a while, but he knew she was a business enthusiast.
