Chapter 1637: Chapter 625: Apology (2)
In these few hours, the Red Blade Biological Institute and Medical College, having accumulated a vast amount of experience, injected numerous organic compounds into the body of Hmm Wei Wu.
These compounds were not particularly advanced, as they did not use the sophisticated technology of God’s Particle during synthesis, merely some ordinary ester substances.
However, this stuff could effectively slow down the physiological degeneration of the Fur Whisker 331 individuals. This information came from the Red Blade Harvester cleaning the battlefield near the Seventh Star Gate, obtained from the black box database of a Sublimator’s biological main ship.
The commander of that biological main ship was the garrison commander of the Seventh Star Gate, who had reached the pinnacle of evolution as a Fur Whisker 331 individual.
Like ordinary humans, once intelligence and power are gained, there is always a desire to live longer, just a bit longer and more brilliantly if there’s even the slightest chance.
This Hmm Wei Wu’s former idol spent a lifetime researching how to live longer.
It nearly succeeded. Its lifespan transcended this race’s destiny and meticulously recorded the entire method of prolonging its own life in the keratin black box, but now, the Red Blade Army benefited from it.
Of course, in the process of pondering how to live longer, that Fur Whisker 331 individual surely killed many of its kind, but these are just minor details, not worth mentioning.
In short, injecting these esters into Hmm Wei Wu’s body was the first step in life extension, and it was quite successful. Many other steps and procedures were to follow, some requiring the organs of other Fur Whisker 331 individuals for renewal, but that stage hadn’t yet arrived.
Subsequently, Hmm Wei Wu was returned to its cell to continue its resistance.
To prevent the remaining few Fur Whisker individuals from dying out completely, Ren Zhong had the project team build a breeding base outside.
As time passed, the scale of the cells inside the research institute continued to expand.
Unconsciously, five years passed.
Hmm Wei Wu’s companions grew in number, reaching hundreds of thousands, even forming a new social class, with Hmm Wei Wu undoubtedly as the leader, under whom were many "generals."
This new group of Fur Whisker 331 individuals maintained their previous lifestyle, yet apart from basic tasks like reproduction, eating, sleeping, excretion, and output, their leisure time turned into chirping, akin to cicadas.
The original cells transformed into a vast dome, and the ecological environment was rebuilt to resemble their most familiar scene.
Under the spirited leadership of Hmm Wei Wu, whenever it and its compatriots began to shout, the spectacle was truly grand and magnificent.
Hmm Wei Wu persisted in one seemingly meaningless endeavor for five straight years without a single day of slackening.
Interestingly, during these years, Hmm Wei Wu not only developed trusted generals but also found a mate and had offspring.
That batch, densely packed with insect eggs, was quite a sight for trypophobic eyes.
However, the hatching rate of the insect eggs was low, typically only one out of thousands could hatch normally. Of those that did hatch, only one in dozens could grow into a healthy adult after three months.
These children shared a high genetic affinity with Hmm Wei Wu, seemingly possessing higher rank mouthparts and more complex intelligence from birth.
On this day, Yang Misi finally emerged from cryogenic sleep.
It just so happened that the frontline corps was planning a large-scale annihilation battle, so Ren Zhong requested leave from Yang Misi, handed internal project matters over to him, and went off to attend other duties.
Three days later, when Ren Zhong returned, he found Hmm Wei Wu once again tightly bound to the experiment table, struggling desperately, even though the reinforcing ribs in the restraint suit almost snapped its neck, it showed no hesitation.
"Is it seeking death? What’s happened?" Ren Zhong asked in confusion, "Wasn’t it fine?"
Yang Misi’s expression was complex, he paused for a moment before speaking. "According to the timeline plan, yesterday we should have removed part of its aging organs, performed basic modifications on some organs from other Fur Whisker individuals, and installed them into its body. I did exactly so. But... the organs with the highest genetic match and the least rejection were from its several offspring. I initially did it secretly, but when it awoke, it realized the matter."
Bang bang bang!
Hmm Wei Wu was using its head to repeatedly hit the experiment table, already creating cracks with the green tissue fluid splattering again.
Its compound eyes widened vastly, seemingly burning with flames, yet there were no tears.
Because it was an insect, without tear glands.
"According to our analysis at the breeding base over there, actually, the Fur Whisker 331 individuals don’t have a concept of inheritance, if the offspring’s larvae die prematurely, they eat them without hesitation. But Hmm Wei Wu... is different after all." Yang Misi rubbed his eyes, seemingly wanting to hide his tears, "I was wrong. I too can make mistakes."
Ren Zhong remained silent.
A moment later, Ren Zhong, with slightly reddened eyes, said, "If it were a normal Empire person, they wouldn’t have any sympathy for an individual Sublimator."
Yang Misi paused, "What do you mean?"
Ren Zhong took a deep breath, "This is what sets my Red Blade Clan apart from the Empire. More explicitly, we are different from the other four major human branches. Hmm, roughly recognizing Hmm Wei Wu’s language, it’s time to apologize."
...
A day later, Ren Zhong and Yang Misi stood side by side beside Hmm Wei Wu, uttering a series of strange syllables in unison to the recently awakened and yet again self-harming Hmm Wei Wu.
This was the innate talent of humans with complex vocal cords, supplemented of course by some electronic voice modulation.
Their words translated into Fur Whisker language were: "Demon, we are very sorry, please forgive us."
Hmm Wei Wu was stunned, then began a truly meaningless cacophonous screaming, sounding akin to human weeping.
