Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss
Chapter 1175 - 1147: That’s an Option?!
Chapter 1175: Chapter 1147: That’s an Option?!
Qian’s emotions had been pretty unstable these days. In Xiaoqiang’s words, the minute his wife got pregnant she started evolving toward "Beauty’s" personality—grabbing every chance she got to take a bite out of someone.
Maybe all pregnant women are like this, or maybe it’s because that idiot Dalong is recovering at home, and every day he pokes at Qian by talking about how anxious she was over him to the point of tears. Or maybe it’s because Qian’s mom is living here and nagging her nonstop: what pregnant women can’t eat, what pregnant women can’t do, what pregnant women should do, blah blah blah—all that nagging is driving Qian up the wall.
And on top of that there’s a green-tea-dog at home that doesn’t know how to read the room (or maybe it’s doing it on purpose to piss people off). The whole big family is crammed into a two-bedroom, noisy day and night. Yu Minglang has been sleeping in the living room with Beauty these days. Whenever her mom is cooking or taking care of Dalong, his wife will call him into the bedroom, and once the door closes—no perks, just a flurry of harmless fancy punches and kicks to vent on him.
Well, she’s a pregnant woman after all. And Xiaoqiang had schemed so badly before, forcing Qian to say things in front of Dalong and her mom that she’d never said in her life. So whenever Qian gets annoyed by her own mom or kid brother, she vents on Xiaoqiang—twisting his ears, pinching his nose, that kind of thing.
Yu Minglang doesn’t get angry at all; he lets her bully him with a grin, since it doesn’t hurt anyway. Whenever she starts in with the fancy punches and kicks, he just smiles foolishly and rubs her belly.
Heh heh, being a dad feels really damn good~
Ever since Yu Minglang found out Qian was pregnant, his mouth hasn’t closed once. Wherever he goes he’s all smug and glowing. His company’s employees were already used to the vice president’s permanently cold face, so when they suddenly saw him all smiles, they were terrified. They even privately discussed it—seeing the VP grin like that was downright creepy. Did something happen to the company? Did the VP suffer some kind of shock?
That didn’t make sense though; the company’s been on an upward track and very stable.
Qian’s pregnancy was a huge deal. Not only did the soon-to-be dad grin like a blooming flower, Qian’s mom also went into full battle mode. This was her daughter’s first child and the pregnancy had to be protected properly. Especially since Qian worried herself sick over Dalong’s situation—though the doctor said it was fine, everyone was afraid she might get too worked up and affect the baby, so proper rest was a must.
Qian was actually the calmest one in the family. It’s not that she wasn’t happy, it’s just that compared with these people who were completely losing it—especially that already-brain-fried man—her happiness looked downright restrained.
The biggest perk of being pregnant was not having to eat the pickled vegetables her mom had stocked up. Qian secretly rejoiced.
Yu Minglang wasn’t just secretly happy; he was openly overjoyed and showing off. When nobody was looking, he sent a mass text to everyone in his contact list: he was going to be a dad!
So when Qian’s mom seriously told him that according to their hometown customs, you shouldn’t tell anyone in the first three months so the pregnancy can stabilize quietly, Xiaoqiang was dumbstruck.
There’s a rule like that too?!
Qian was delighted seeing him stand there all dumb and stunned. Ha, now he knows how formidable her superstitious mom is!
But Qian hadn’t even enjoyed a full day of happiness before she was overwhelmed and made miserable by the constant stream of people coming to visit her.
The first to arrive was Mrs. Yu, pretty much like Qian’s mom, all big bags and bundles. Actually, scratch that—she was even more over the top than Qian’s mom!
Qian’s mom took the bus over by herself, but Mrs. Yu came in two cars, both trunks stuffed full. All the supplements and goodies you could think of were there. If there had been enough room at home, Mrs. Yu would have wanted to stay and personally take care of Qian.
After all, when her second daughter-in-law, Da Yi, was pregnant in her first year of university, Mrs. Yu personally looked after her those first few months. She treated all her daughters-in-law fairly, never favoring one over the other. Now that Qian had just gotten pregnant and become the family’s new key protection target, of course she had to get special treatment.
But since Qian’s mom was already here, Mrs. Yu dropped the idea of staying in this apartment. She went to live at Da Yi’s place instead, and planned to stay long-term.
Anyway, Da Yi was due in about two months. Mrs. Yu could take care of the second daughter-in-law while keeping an eye on the youngest daughter-in-law. Whatever good food she made, she’d send some over, and she could share experience and tips with Qian’s mom.
Besides that, Qian’s friends all came by one after another, saying they were here to "observe how pathetic Qian looks being wrapped in bubble wrap," but in reality everyone arrived with mountains of gifts. Those like Shuixian, who were about to give birth and couldn’t come in person, mailed things over. People like Shi Touyu, who lived downstairs, didn’t even need mentioning. There were also some former patients Qian had treated, who somehow got wind of the news that she was resting for the pregnancy, and they kept sending stuff as well.
Qian’s place couldn’t possibly hold all of it. She tried telling them not to send anything, but they wouldn’t listen. Never mind her close friends, her patients were in that mindset like before a major surgery when you shove a red envelope at the chief surgeon. If she didn’t accept their offerings, they felt uneasy and insisted she take them.
Those people didn’t know where Qian lived, so they sent the gifts to her school. Qian hadn’t gone to school these past few days; the security guard was signing for everything. When Qian told the guard to stop accepting deliveries, those people handed the packages to her eldest brother or to Shuixian, asking them to pass things on.
Qian herself couldn’t possibly consume all these pricey gifts. Fortunately, there were plenty of pregnant women around, so she handed things out one by one. Baby products or jade and jewelry got shared out too. Whatever she really couldn’t distribute, she sent out to be sold through intermediaries. Yu Minglang just kept laughing, saying their baby was a little lucky star; the moment it arrived it brought all kinds of auspicious signs to their home, turning every danger into a blessing.
Compared with her previous life, Qian’s pregnancy this time was worlds apart. In her past life she’d cut ties with her family and was living on her own, money was tight, nobody cared for her, and her pregnancy symptoms were severe. She didn’t even know how she managed to get through it.
In this life she was surrounded by family and a loving partner, taken care of down to the last detail. She didn’t have to worry about daily life at all. With just a glance someone would bring fruit or whatever she needed. Maybe it was the better nutrition, maybe it was the care she received, but aside from being sleepy and having some odd cravings, everything else was great.
The only thing that wasn’t smooth and kept causing arguments was Beauty.
Whether it was Qian’s mom, who hadn’t had much schooling, or Mrs. Yu, an educated granny with a university background, their first reaction upon seeing Beauty was: get rid of it!
On that point, the two old ladies were in complete agreement.
Getting close to a pet dog during pregnancy might lead to toxoplasma infection. Qian’s mom couldn’t put it as scientifically as Mrs. Yu, but she knew pregnant women shouldn’t keep dogs.
Everyone’s idea was to send Beauty away. Yu Minglang really couldn’t bear to, but he was also worried about Qian’s health, so he could only grit his teeth and agree to let Beauty go temporarily.
Before Beauty was brought home, it only recognized Yu Minglang, and would refuse to eat or drink if he wasn’t there. After being raised at home for a while, it got a lot better—it would eat when Qian or the young aunt in the family fed it, and got along well with Dalong and Qian’s mom. So Yu Minglang temporarily placed Beauty with one of Mrs. Yu’s friends. That friend was a doctor who’d married a pilot, who just happened to be the second brother’s superior, and they all lived in the same family housing compound as the second brother.
He didn’t expect trouble to happen before he even managed to send Beauty over.
