Chapter 1276: Chapter 1248: This Is a Bewitching Document
Having called him father for so many years but suddenly he’s the neighbor Mr. Wang, her background is mysterious and confusing, and Qio Yu Xuan suddenly left, whereabouts unknown...
If she had gone through these things when she wasn’t pregnant, she could have maintained the ’I’m Qian, who do I fear?’ attitude to overcome them and definitely wouldn’t let herself become depressed, but now during her pregnancy, a pregnant woman with hormonal imbalances can’t handle even little things, like how Shi Tou felt terribly sad just because Qiao Zhen played cards incorrectly on her behalf. It’s more than that now, as Qian is experiencing her real father and Mr. Wang disappearing together. What Qian doesn’t know is that there are other reasons for her emotional abnormalities, but that’s a story for another time.
The pet couldn’t understand what Qian was saying, but its intuitive sense was very sharp. It sensed Qian’s sadness and despair during this period, so it tried hard to comfort Qian, placing its paw on her belly, with a whimpering expression, as if saying she needed to keep going.
Touched, Qian tried to muster her spirit, "Yes, I must pull myself together. I’m a mother now, I have a baby in my belly, and there are so many family members concerned about me..."
She looked around at the layout of the house, every bit of it was a reflection of her family’s love for her.
Father-in-law and mother-in-law, her biological mother and stepfather, so many good friends, everyone cared about her.
Especially Xiaoqiang.
Yu Minglang was so busy with work that he still managed to spend time with Qian every day, taking moments to speak with the baby over her belly. Yet he couldn’t always come home from work on time every night; once he arrived late and Qian was already asleep. When she woke up, she noticed he hadn’t even taken off his military uniform and was leaning against the bedpost, appearing to have fallen asleep watching her. When Qian nudged him awake, he jolted, and it was already morning, so he washed his face and went to work.
This feeling made Qian feel very comforted.
It’s almost as if she was soaking in a honey pot — everyone around her was being good to her, yet why did she still feel so sad?
Pregnancy depression is difficult to control. The love from family sometimes becomes a pressure; Qian now finds herself in this predicament.
She knows depression is bad for the child and is aware her family is eagerly awaiting the baby’s arrival, but the more she tries to cheer up, the more her mood sinks. Seeing Xiaoqiang invited Mr Liu over, she forced herself to regain composure, not wanting her family to worry.
That night when Minglang came home, he saw Qian laughing heartily at a comic book, with several empty snack boxes on the table, and he felt relieved.
Looks like Mrs Liu’s therapy is working. It’s wonderful to see her back to her old self.
Qian, on the other hand, stored his concerned expression in her heart and laughed even more joyfully.
For the sake of those who love her, she had to be strong, even if she had to pretend.
Yu Minglang was busy with work and had limited time to be with Qian. During the day, those who accompanied Qian, whether it was Mrs. Yu or Qian’s mother, couldn’t be as attentive as Yu Minglang. No one noticed Qian’s unusual behavior; they just noticed she laughed more, thinking it was good.
Until one night, Xiaoqiang was awakened by a slight noise, silently opening his eyes to see a heart-wrenching scene.
He saw Qian curling herself into a ball, with her back facing him and her shoulders shaking as if she was suppressing sobs.
Minglang couldn’t forget how stimulating that scene was for him.
His heart felt as if it had been slashed with a knife several times.
He wanted to reach out and hug her but couldn’t bring himself to do it. She kept up the facade during the day to avoid letting everyone know she was sad, saving her tears for the night. If he spoke now and let her know he saw her, she would surely feel even more pressured.
Mr Liu had already explained to him a bit about pregnancy-related depression, and Minglang could empathize with Qian’s pain, suddenly understanding the hidden struggles behind her strong smile. She must be trying very hard to reassure everyone, doing her best.
Only in the deep silence of the night would she vent her depression.
He so wanted to get up now and give her a warm refuge, but right now he could do nothing, just watch Qian feeling troubled.
After waiting a while longer, he heard her get up, cautiously getting dressed.
Yu Minglang closed his eyes but could hear her turning on the computer.
So late at night, what was she doing on the computer?
While she wasn’t paying attention, Yu Minglang secretly opened his eyes to glance over; he saw Qian looking at some densely packed text on the computer, but he couldn’t tell what it was, as the desk was a bit far, so he got up quietly and stood behind her.
The screen was filled with dense text, mostly in English. Fortunately, Xiaoqiang was also academically gifted and could understand some of it; after reading two lines, he realized this was that hard drive Nong Yao brought over, which seemed to contain some medical case studies.
"Why are you up so late still looking at this?"
His voice startled Qian, and she patted her chest, "You scared me! I couldn’t sleep, so I got up to take a look."
When she felt down these past few days, she wanted to look at these cases, getting more and more engrossed.
"Stop reading, have a look tomorrow during the day."
Yu Minglang guided her back to bed; Qian couldn’t sleep, and he pretended not to know about her crying earlier, and the two lay side by side. Yu Minglang felt there was an invisible gulf between him and Qian at that moment.
That sea of emotions separated him and her, both trying their best to be good to each other, yet it brought immense pressure; he wasn’t content with things being this way and tried hard to break through this emotional barrier.
"What was that case you were just reading about?" He struck up a random conversation.
"It’s about smiling depression. I’ve been reading about this lately."
"There’s a form of depression that’s smiling?"
"Yes, these people don’t show any abnormality outwardly, often being quite polite, hiding their depression behind a smile. When suicidal behaviors occur, it’s hard for families to believe the person has already been suffering from the illness."
Cold sweat trickled down Yu Minglang’s head as he listened, "You’ve been reading this these days?"
"Not only this, I’ve also looked at materials about emotional disorders after losing loved ones. It’s odd, though. I’ve read so many books, but never found anything as captivating as what’s discussed here. Reading it when I’m sad kind of makes me feel a bit better."
Yu Minglang patted Qian for a while until she finally fell asleep.
Once Qian was asleep, Yu Minglang got up and went to the computer again, opening the hard drive that had captivated her and searched through the documents inside.
The hard drive was enormous, containing the accumulated wisdom of Qio Yu Xuan’s lifetime, yet Yu Minglang effortlessly found the beginning because it was divided into several documents marked with numbered labels, making it easy to find the sequence.
He opened the first document and looked through them one by one, admittedly a very compelling document.
If an expert like Mr. Liu were to see it, it would be truly impressive—no wonder Qian was captivated at first sight. But for an outsider like Yu Minglang, things weren’t quite right.
