Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss
Chapter 1280 - 1252: Lies Are False, Feelings Are True
Chapter 1280: Chapter 1252: Lies Are False, Feelings Are True
Qian’s mom said to Qian, "You should rest early today; we have to go for the prenatal check-up at the hospital tomorrow, so we can’t go too late." Qian’s mom brought her daughter’s meal right to her, the pampering evident, yet she saw her daughter rubbing her eyes repeatedly.
"What’s wrong?"
"My left eye has been twitching all day; maybe I’m too tired. I haven’t been reading much recently."
Throughout her pregnancy, Qian has been relatively comfortable, except for the month right after Qio Yu Xuan left when she almost got depressed. Other times, she hasn’t had severe pregnancy symptoms, but toward the later stages, she has to wake up multiple times at night to go to the bathroom. Whenever she moves, Yu Minglang gets up to accompany her, even though Qian insists that she isn’t so weak that she’d trip while walking. Nevertheless, Yu Minglang is adamant, always holding her hand as he escorts her to the bathroom door, waiting to guide her back afterward.
As the pampered one catered to by several people, every move Qian makes is closely watched by everyone.
She mentioned her eye twitching, prompting Qian’s mom to chuckle.
"Left eye twitching means something good! Counting the days, my granddaughter should arrive in less than a month, right?"
Qian rolled her eyes since her mom had a strong obsession about wanting a grandson. It’s been months, but she was still hoping for a son.
At the last check-up, her sister-in-law secretly told her that it’s highly likely to be a girl, although it wasn’t clear because the baby mischievously blocked the view with her hand. There was only one instance when the sister-in-law couldn’t see clearly.
Such a big happy event, the sister-in-law didn’t dare to tell the elders. With so many sons in the family, everyone was holding hope for something different. If said too early, it might turn out not as expected, causing pressure on Qian and disappointment for the elders.
So, Qian didn’t expose her mom’s gender bias, quietly drinking her porridge.
"I feel the eye twitching has nothing to do with good or bad luck."
As if proving her wrong, the phone rang right after Qian said that.
Qian’s mom casually picked it up.
"Hello, who is it? Qian?" Hearing someone call her daughter like this, and it being a man’s voice, Qian’s mom was taken aback.
What’s going on?
A man calling her daughter? This wasn’t her son-in-law’s voice, and the gossip-loving mind of Qian’s mom was about to explode.
She glared at Qian. If the girl dared to mess around behind Minglang’s back, she’d be the first to disagree!
But Qian’s ears perked up upon hearing the caller’s name, straightening up instantly.
She had been sipping porridge unhurriedly at the table, but hearing this name, she dashed swiftly over and snatched the phone from her mom.
"Hello?! Is it you, old man, are you still alive?"
The phone emitted a muffled laugh. "Yes, it’s me, I’m still alive."
Ah! It’s really him!
Qian felt a rush of joy internally, it’s Qio Yu Xuan!
Qian’s mom nudged and squeezed closer, craning her neck to listen, only to be pushed aside by Qian’s arm.
"Mom, don’t mess around; it’s my mentor!"
Qian’s mom recalled having met Qio Yu Xuan before but still yelled out worriedly.
"Hey brother Qio, you doing well lately?"
"I’m okay."
Realizing it was indeed Qio Yu Xuan, Qian’s mom felt at ease, going to prepare snacks for her daughter, knowing Qian must be eating and needing an endless supply of fruits.
Previously, Qian didn’t know about her mom’s affair with Qio Yu Xuan. Knowing now, she couldn’t help but ponder their conversation, realizing there isn’t anything suspicious, and then heard the muffled laughter from the phone.
"Silly girl, what are you trying to puzzle out now?"
"Where have you gone, leaving for so long?" Despite focusing on maintaining a healthy pregnancy, Qian still worried about Qio Yu Xuan’s safety, believing he was surrounded by capable individuals.
Finally, she accepted that even if this time was like before when Qio Yu Xuan deceived her, she’d get over it. At most, she’d give the old man a beating and demand an apology; she wouldn’t deceive herself anymore. She truly felt familial affection for this old man, though unaware when it began. Perhaps from when he lied about transferring his deceased daughter’s feelings to Qian—the lie was false, but the emotion was real.
After spending so long together, Qian’s heart was not made of stone; how could it remain unmoved?
Thus, hearing Qio Yu Xuan’s voice after several months, the prior grievances seemed unimportant; as long as he returned, all would be well.
Qian’s concern reached Qio Yu Xuan’s ears, drawing him into a smug laugh. "See, what did I say? Time heals all. I’ve only been gone a few months, and you’re missing me already. Now, give Qian some airtime to express your longing."
Qian’s freshly nurtured affection was stifled by this fellow’s antics; this old man had a knack for making people angry in seconds!
"Okay, okay, I won’t tease you anymore. I’m calling to tell you that I’m fine; the matter is resolved. I’ll be home the day after tomorrow. See, I’ve kept my word to return before you give birth, didn’t I?"
"Hmph, who cares about your return!" Qian was evidently happy, yet she deliberately spoke contrary.
"Alright, alright, you don’t care, but I do. Wait for me." Qio Yu Xuan was ready to hang up.
"Hold on, I have something to ask." Qian remembered the document that almost drove her to depression.
"What is it?"
"The document you gave me, what’s the first section of the first part about?"
"Oh, that. You’ve looked at it already? The first Chapter introduces theoretical concepts. Your fundamentals are solid, so it shouldn’t be too challenging for you. Later sections involve complex matters; when I return, I’ll explain to you. Don’t skip through them alone; some parts are hazardous and watching them yourself could lead to trouble."
Qio Yu Xuan’s material given to Qian was thoroughly calculated, having prepared them after discovering her through international competitions.
"Are you sure it’s theory?" Qian squinted.
"Of course. I personally made those documents for you; how could there be errors?"
"Who else knows the password for your hard drive?" This indicated someone tampered with it, and Qian wanted to identify the suspect now.
"There’s your senior brother, third senior brother, and Mu—ow!" Qio Yu Xuan let out a muffled groan.
"What happened?"
"It’s nothing. Why do you want to ask me this?"
Qian noticed something seemed off on that end, deciding to question him upon his return.
"When are you coming back?"
"The morning after tomorrow."
"Alright, I’ll be waiting at home for you the morning after tomorrow."
After hanging up, Qian displayed a determined look, indicating she would soon discover who altered the head Chapter of the hard drive given by Qio Yu Xuan.
That hard drive has a password, and only a few people know it; she’d go over them one by one to see who tampered with it and understand their motives!
