Reverend Insanity : Blood Path
Chapter 47 Xin Ci Mother
Lin Feng couldn’t help but laugh. Although he and his elder sister bickered constantly, he cherished her deeply. In the Gu world, however, even the purest bonds could become the price of power.
Take the Rank Two Love and Separation Gu, for example. One of its main refinement materials is the heart of one’s beloved. In other words, the Gu Master must be wholeheartedly devoted to their beloved for the refinement to succeed.
Blood Path was no exception. It possessed the renowned Rank Six Blood Deity Gu, the advanced form of Blood Demon Gu. Once refined, a Blood Deity possessed battle strength comparable to that of a Rank Six Gu Immortal, making it one of Blood Path’s most formidable Immortal Gu.
However, refining a Blood Deity required a blood relative as the sacrifice. By killing one of their own kin, a Gu Immortal could use the power of Blood Deity Immortal Gu to refine a Blood Deity. If the sacrifice willingly accepted their fate and offered up their life without resistance, the resulting Blood Deity would remain absolutely loyal to its master. On the other hand, if they died consumed by hatred and resentment, the Blood Deity could one day betray its master.
Forcing a loved one to willingly embrace death, only to turn them into a tool, was cruelty beyond words. Even so, countless Gu Masters still chose to refine such Gu. That was their resolve.
Lin Feng had come to understand one thing as well. In this world, family was often the greatest weakness of the strong. For Mortal people like his elder sister, Lin Zhiyao, that weakness was even more obvious. Blood Path excelled at exploiting it, slaughtering blood relatives and refining them into Gu to strengthen oneself. Blood Skull Gu and Blood Fetus Gu were two such examples.
He could never bring himself to do such a thing. Even so, he had secretly planted a Gu inside Lin Zhiyao. It was a poison, but also a hidden safeguard, a final trump card he could rely on if he were ever driven into absolute desperation.
Perhaps Lin Zhiyao knew. Perhaps she didn’t. Either way, he had still gritted his teeth and done it.
Unlike the blood mosquito eggs Lin Feng had secretly left in the milk springs within the Bai Gu Mountain inheritance to scheme against future generations, the Gu he planted on Lin Zhiyao would never harm her. It existed only as a final safeguard, to be used only when there was no other choice.
Of course, Lin Feng hoped he would never have to use it for the rest of his life.
Zhang Zhu coughed lightly, interrupting the siblings’ banter. “Brother Lin Feng, the Third Miss is still waiting for you.”
The siblings finally stopped bickering. Lin Feng took out a storage gu and handed it to Zhang Zhu.
“I brought a few things back for Xinci and my silly elder sister. Neither of them is a Gu Master, so please take them out for them, Brother Zhang Zhu. I’ll head inside first.”
Zhang Zhu nodded and accepted the storage Gu. Lin Feng then strode toward the inner courtyard, where someone had been waiting for his return.
Upon entering, Lin Feng found the room decorated in a simple yet elegant style. Behind a screen painted with mountains and rivers stood a graceful figure, tall and refined.
“Third Miss, I’m back.” Lin Feng bowed slightly. He had always been someone who repaid kindness. Since she had once saved both him and his elder sister, he respected her from the bottom of his heart.
With light, graceful steps, a beautiful woman emerged from behind the screen.
Her delicate brows were lightly knit, as though carrying endless worries. Her eyes shimmered with unshed tears, gentle and full of emotion. A faint trace of melancholy lingered on her beautiful face, while her frail figure seemed burdened by illness. When she stood still, she resembled a delicate flower reflected upon still water. When she walked, she swayed as gracefully as a willow dancing in the breeze.
Such beauty had once made Lin Feng wonder whether she, too, enjoyed burying fallen flowers. It had to be said that Shang Yanfei might be a scoundrel, but his judgment of people was impeccable.
Just as the Third Miss was about to speak, she suddenly coughed up a mouthful of black blood. The instant it splashed onto the floor, wisps of white smoke rose with a hissing sound, a clear sign that the poison within it was extraordinarily potent.
“Third Miss, what happened? How did you end up like this?” Lin Feng’s voice was filled with anxiety and disbelief. Before he had left, although the Third Miss had always been frail, her condition had at least remained stable.
Wait… could this be the Seven Emotions and Eight Sufferings?
