Reverend Insanity : Blood Path
Chapter 65 Lin Feng Vs Yang Kang
Suddenly, Yang Kang stopped. A figure stood atop a boulder ahead, arms crossed. His aura was powerful yet difficult to read, making Yang Kang unable to determine his cultivation at a glance. He appeared to be a middle-aged man with a weathered face and deep lines carved by the years. Dressed in a simple black robe, he stood there alone, yet Yang Kang felt an inexplicable pressure bearing down on him, as though a mountain were blocking his path. Most striking were the man’s cold and indifferent eyes, which looked at Yang Kang as though he were nothing more than an ant.
“We finally met, Yang Kang.”
Yang Kang stared at him in confusion. Finally meet? Does he know me?
Seeing his confusion, the middle-aged man did not bother concealing his purpose. “I come from Qing Mao Mountain beside the Yellow Dragon River and belong to the Gu Yue Clan. I know quite a bit about your situation. I came here today for one reason. I know you possess a Blood Sea true inheritance. Hand it over.”
Yang Kang’s pupils contracted. He knows I possess the Blood Sea true inheritance! How?!
His thoughts raced before he quickly reached what seemed like the most reasonable conclusion. It must be those bastards from the Chi Clan. Even the Tie Clan, thousands of li away, learned about me. It wouldn’t be strange if news of the Blood Sea inheritance had already spread.
Most of Yang Kang’s Blood Path Gu had been destroyed in the previous battle, and his combat strength had fallen drastically. He could not afford to provoke another powerful enemy without first understanding the man’s strength. After making his decision, Yang Kang forced a friendly smile and walked forward.
“Brother, I do possess a portion of the Blood Sea true inheritance. But we have neither friendship nor relation, so why should I simply hand it over to you? You should also know how easy it is for a Gu Master to destroy his own Gu. It only takes a thought. Still, I’m not someone who insists on keeping every benefit for myself. Since you want my Blood Sea inheritance, we can certainly discuss it, provided you’re willing to help me with something in return.”
Yang Kang intended to use the Blood Sea true inheritance to stabilize the situation first and then act according to circumstances. If this stranger proved weaker than expected, he would find an opportunity to kill him. If he was truly powerful, Yang Kang could use the inheritance to establish a temporary alliance. Having another Blood Path Gu Master attract the Tie Clan’s attention would only benefit him.
The middle-aged man was naturally Lin Feng in disguise. Hearing Yang Kang’s proposal, Lin Feng found it rather amusing. The Blood Sea inheritance in Yang Kang’s possession had been deliberately arranged by him in the first place, yet Yang Kang was now trying to use that very inheritance to bargain with him.
Lin Feng did not bother answering. Instead, he reached behind the boulder and dragged out a young girl. She appeared unconscious, her eyes tightly shut. Coarse hemp rope bound her hands, leaving deep bloody marks around her delicate wrists, while several bruises could be seen across her face. Her clothes, however, remained intact, and aside from those superficial injuries, she appeared unharmed.
“I won’t waste words with you. The fact that I came looking for you means I came prepared.” Lin Feng chuckled coldly. “She’s your younger sister, isn’t she? A Blood Sea true inheritance in exchange for your own sister. You certainly won’t be losing out. I’ll give you three minutes to decide. I hope your answer doesn’t disappoint me.”
That’s Le’er! Yang Kang’s eyes widened the instant he recognized her. Damn it! How dare he treat her like this?! Le’er was the last family member he had left in this world. He had sworn that no matter what happened, he would never allow anyone to hurt her. When he saw the bruises covering her fair face, fury immediately surged through him. That bastard hurt my sister! I’ll tear him apart!
“Brother! Brother, save me! Please save me!” Like a frightened rabbit finally seeing someone she could rely on, Yang Le burst into tears. Crystal tears streamed down her aggrieved face as she desperately cried out, “Brother!”
Hearing his sister’s desperate cries, Yang Kang felt as though his heart were being torn apart. Since childhood, he had always spoiled and protected her. When had she ever suffered like this? However, Yang Kang knew that he could not lose his composure. If he revealed how important his sister was to him, the enemy would only seize upon that weakness and push him further into a corner.
A gust of wind swept across the mountain. Chiyang Mountain’s winds were usually unbearably hot and humid, something Yang Kang had always disliked because they made people restless and irritable. Yet at this moment, he felt only a bone-piercing chill. Yang Kang took a deep breath and gradually forced himself to calm down. He would negotiate first and pretend to accept the man’s conditions. Once the other party lowered his guard, he would slowly look for an opportunity to strike with his Blood Path Gu. Even if he could not kill this man, he had to rescue his sister.
“I’m sorry, but my patience is limited. Your time is up.” Lin Feng, still disguised as a middle-aged man, untied Yang Le’s ropes and gently helped the bewildered girl to her feet. Then he placed one hand on her left shoulder and suddenly pulled.
Yang Le’s delicate body jolted violently. For an instant, she seemed unable to comprehend what had happened before a piercing scream tore from her throat. Her entire left arm had been ripped off, and blood gushed from the enormous wound as she collapsed in agony.
Lin Feng had an older sister himself, so logically, he should have been able to understand Yang Kang’s feelings. But why should he? His own sister was his family, while Yang Le was someone else’s sister. What did that have to do with him? Was he supposed to sympathize with everyone merely because they had families? Did they think he was some kind of saint?
“No! No! You bastard! How could you do this?!” Yang Kang cried out in anguish. His face twisted with despair, while overwhelming killing intent filled his eyes as he stared at Lin Feng.
Lin Feng merely spread his hands innocently. “I didn’t want to do it either. I told you that you had three minutes. Time ran out, so naturally there had to be consequences.”
“You… you despicable bastard! Shameless scoundrel!” Yang Kang pointed at him and cursed furiously.
Lin Feng remained completely unmoved. Instead, he calmly placed his hand on Yang Le’s remaining shoulder and lowered his head. “Little sister, it’s not that I don’t want to let you go. Your brother simply refuses to cooperate.” His fingers tightened around her shoulder, and the sickening sound of flesh and muscle beginning to tear struck Yang Kang’s heart like a heavy hammer.
“No! Spare my sister, and I’ll give you the inheritance! I’ll give you all my Gu as well. Just please spare Le’er!” Yang Kang seemed to lose all his strength as he took several Gu from his aperture. A dense blood aura surrounded them, clearly revealing that they were all Blood Path Gu.
Lin Feng laughed loudly. “Very good! A wise man knows when to submit to circumstances, and I’m not someone who goes back on his word.” He loosened his grip on Yang Le’s remaining arm and began treating her wound.
Yang Kang slowly walked toward Lin Feng, holding the Blood Path Gu before him as though he had completely surrendered. Inwardly, however, he had already made his decision. Once he entered the effective range of Blood Arrow Gu, he would launch a sudden attack while Lin Feng’s attention was drawn to the Gu in his hands. He had already agreed to surrender the Blood Sea inheritance, and with Yang Le still held hostage, Lin Feng would naturally believe that he no longer dared to resist.
A thousand steps. Five hundred steps. Two hundred steps. Fifty steps.
Just a little closer. Once I get a little closer, Blood Arrow Gu will be within range.
Just as Yang Kang silently calculated the distance, Lin Feng suddenly raised his hand. Cold light flashed as an attack shot toward him at terrifying speed.
Yang Kang’s pupils instantly contracted to pinpoints. Disbelief filled his face. He had never expected Lin Feng to suddenly go back on his word, and at such a close distance, there was no longer any time to dodge.
“How could you… If I die, the Gu will destroy themselves. Don’t you want the Blood Sea inheritance…”
Before Yang Kang could finish speaking, the attack sliced cleanly through his neck. His head flew into the air as blood erupted from the severed neck like a fountain, splattering across the surrounding meadow. A moment later, his headless body collapsed heavily to the ground like a felled tree.
From the very beginning, Lin Feng had never intended to spare Yang Kang. Everything he had done was merely to ensure Yang Kang died by his hand.
