Reverend Insanity : Blood Path
Chapter 99 Refine Rank 5 Gu
“Awooo!”
The seven Frenzied Lightning Wolves raised their heads and howled in unison. At their command, countless Lightning Wolves surged forward and launched a direct attack on the Blood River Python.
The Blood River Python swung its enormous tail from side to side. Ordinary Lightning Wolves and Hundred Beast Kings were no match for its strength, and those caught by its tail were instantly smashed into bloody pulp. Yet the remaining wolves showed no fear, continuing to charge toward the enormous python as though determined to tear it apart regardless of the cost.
In truth, they had little choice. The Blood River Python had been rampaging through their territory for some time and had already slaughtered a large number of Lightning Wolves. If they failed to stop it, the entire wolf pack would suffer tremendous losses.
Thunder Spear Gu, Electric Current Gu, Wolf Fang Gu and numerous other wild Gu parasitizing the Lightning Wolves activated one after another. Lightning flashed and thunder roared as countless attacks illuminated the surroundings in deep blue. Unfortunately, their opponent was a Rank Five Gu with extraordinary defensive ability. The overwhelming lightning looked terrifying, but when it struck the Blood River Python’s crimson scales, it was like waves crashing against a cliff, leaving little more than scorched marks behind.
Too weak. Far too weak. How could attacks like these seriously injure the Blood River Python? Lin Feng was somewhat disappointed as he watched from inside its body. Without sufficiently injuring the Blood River Python, refining it would remain troublesome. What is the Thunder Crowned Wolf of this pack doing? It still hasn’t appeared. It seems I’ll have to push things further.
Lin Feng activated his Gu once more, intensifying the torment from within. Driven mad by the pain, the Blood River Python became even more violent. Great streams of blood poured from its mouth while its enormous tail swept across the battlefield like a steel whip, crushing dozens of Lightning Wolves with every strike.
Unable to stop the Blood River Python, the wolf pack finally raised their heads and released a long, mournful howl together, seemingly calling for help.
A moment later, an enormous wolf emerged behind the pack. Its body was so huge that from a distance it resembled a small hill.
Myriad Beast King, Thunder Crowned Wolf!
Its body was long and streamlined, supported by powerful yet agile limbs. Dark-blue scales covered most of its body and shimmered with a strange metallic light, while clusters of golden fur grew around its paws, head, and tail. These golden hairs were evidence that the Thunder Crowned Wolf possessed traces of the bloodline of the Desolate Beast, Thunder Soaring Wolf, a creature covered entirely in golden fur and capable of calling down heavenly thunder.
Most striking of all was the fur upon the Thunder Crowned Wolf’s head. It rose upward in thick golden strands, naturally forming the shape of a towering crown. The enormous wolf crouched silently upon the ground, almost motionless, while the surrounding Frenzied Lightning Wolves and Hundred Beast Kings howled around it, making its calm bearing appear even more imposing.
Now that’s more like it. Lin Feng grinned. A Myriad Beast King possessed enough battle strength to truly threaten a Rank Five Gu.
Rain suddenly began pouring from the sky. Dark clouds covered Qing Mao Mountain, while the distant peaks blurred beneath the heavy curtain of rain until they resembled dark smears of ink. The downpour connected heaven and earth, accompanied by the continuous rumbling of thunder.
Crack!
The dark sky suddenly brightened as a bolt of lightning tore through the clouds like a silver serpent before vanishing just as quickly.
________
Across Qing Mao Mountain, vast stretches of green spear bamboo stood proudly beneath the storm. Wind and rain battered their slender bodies, yet their trunks remained straight as spears, their pointed tips reaching toward the dark sky. Within Gu Yue Village, rows of stilted houses stood side by side, silently enduring the heavy downpour.
Fang Yuan walked through the rain and pushed open the door of a Gu house. Compared with the temporary tents swaying beneath the storm outside, the solid Gu house naturally gave its customers a much greater sense of security.
“This is the remaining payment.” Fang Yuan placed a bag of primeval stones on the counter. The shop assistant quickly put them away before taking out a Rank Two Gu.
The Gu resembled a lustrous pearl, radiating a faint light that was neither dazzling nor harsh. Instead, its glow was gentle and warm, resembling moonlight spilling across the ground at night.
Rank Two Moon Path Gu, Bright Moon Gu!
Bright Moon Gu could be considered an improved version of Little Light Gu. Little Light Gu could only strengthen Moon Path Gu closely related to light, such as Moonlight Gu. It had little effect on more advanced variations such as Moonblade Gu, Golden Moon Gu, Frost Moon Gu, and Spiral Moon Gu. Bright Moon Gu, however, could strengthen all of them.
Although the degree of enhancement varied depending on the particular Moon Path Gu, that was more than enough for Fang Yuan’s current needs.
With this Gu, the strength of my Moon Path Gu will rise considerably. At least for my current situation, it’s much more useful than White Boar Gu.
Fang Yuan accepted Bright Moon Gu and stored it away. With the suppression of the Spring Autumn Cicada, refining a mere Rank Two Gu posed little difficulty, and he quickly made it his own.
Afterward, Fang Yuan noticed that the mysterious shop owner he had met previously was nowhere to be seen. “Why isn’t your boss here today?”
