Reverend Insanity: Dream Gu

Chapter 275: Killer Moves

  • Next Chapter

Not long after Lin Yan erased his traces and departed, two streaks of light approached from opposite directions. A Xia Family Gu Immortal and a Ba Family Gu Immortal arrived above the damaged section of Fire Thunder River almost simultaneously.

Their attention first fell upon the devastated river below before shifting toward each other. Neither knew what had happened, and neither could exclude the possibility that the other clan was involved. However, there was no reason to provoke a conflict before understanding the situation, so after exchanging a few words, the two entered the river to investigate together.

Unfortunately, their search revealed very little.

They could determine that a battle between Gu Immortals had taken place beneath the river, and the remaining traces clearly belonged to Flame Path and Thunder Path. Beyond this, almost everything useful had already been erased. They found neither an inheritance nor any Immortal Gu, while the person responsible had disappeared without leaving enough clues to pursue.

By the time the two Gu Immortals returned to their respective clans, Lin Yan was already far away.

As he continued toward his next destination, Lin Yan turned his attention back to Fire Thunder Divine Lord’s cultivation knowledge. The Immortal Gu and resources he had obtained were already enormous gains, but the true inheritance of a Rank Eight Gu Immortal naturally contained much more than material wealth.

There were dozens of complete Immortal Gu recipes, including Rank Seven and Rank Eight recipes for all five Immortal Gu he had just obtained. Beyond these were another two to three hundred incomplete recipes that Fire Thunder Divine Lord had collected, studied, or attempted to create throughout his life.

Lin Yan now possessed five major true inheritances: Thieving Heaven True Inheritance, Fire Thunder Divine Lord True Inheritance, Startling Divinity True Inheritance, Split Divinity True Inheritance, and Zhen Yuanzi True Inheritance. Each represented the accumulation of an exceptional Gu Immortal, and together they contained an enormous amount of knowledge concerning Immortal Gu refinement.

Simply reading and memorizing these recipes would not raise Lin Yan’s Refinement Path attainment. He needed to understand the reasoning behind each recipe, the relationship between different immortal materials, and why certain combinations succeeded while others failed. Only after thoroughly comprehending this knowledge and making it his own could it truly contribute to his Refinement Path attainment.

With so many complete and incomplete Immortal Gu recipes available for study, they would be of considerable help when Lin Yan attempted to advance toward the Refinement Path Great Grandmaster in the future.

Compared with this knowledge, Fire Thunder Divine Lord’s killer moves were much more useful to Lin Yan at present.

Most were Rank Seven or Rank Eight killer moves that combined Flame Path and Thunder Path, together forming the combat system Fire Thunder Divine Lord had developed around Fire Thunder Immortal Gu. The five Immortal Gu preserved within the inheritance were all part of this combat system, with each appearing in several of its important Killer moves.

Among the offensive killer moves were Nine-Five Fire Thunder Dragon and Heavenly Lightning Tribulation Fire. Electric Light Flint and Thunder Fire Great Escape focused on movement, while Firefly Guarding the Heart and Nine Dragons Lightning Body-Protecting Tribulation Fire provided defense. There were also methods beyond direct combat. Thunder Fire Reverse Refinement and Thunder Vein Fire dealt with immortal aperture development, while Red Star was an investigative killer move.

Fire Thunder Immortal Gu was the key that allowed Flame Path and Thunder Path to work together within these killer moves. Fire Thunder Divine Lord could alter the balance between the two paths according to the opponent he faced, weakening the effect of killer moves that specifically restrained either one. Against Water Path or Ice Path Gu Immortals, for example, he could reduce the reliance on Flame Path and draw more power from Thunder Path instead.

This was also what made the inheritance so complete. Fire Thunder Divine Lord had not merely left behind methods for battle. There were more than a dozen complete arrangements for giant Flame Path and Thunder Path resource points, along with several designs capable of reaching the scale of super resource points. In terms of developing Flame Sovereign Blessed Land, these were no less useful to Lin Yan than the corresponding portion of Startling Divinity True Inheritance.

As Flame Sovereign Blessed Land continued to expand, Lin Yan would eventually need to construct more high-level resource points. These arrangements could save him years of experimentation and deduction.

Yet after going through the Immortal Gu recipes, killer moves, and resource-point arrangements one after another, Lin Yan spent the longest time on something Fire Thunder Divine Lord had never managed to finish.

It was only an incomplete killer move. But the ambition behind it surpassed everything else in the inheritance.
