Chapter 497 - 496: Calling the Police
Sheng Tian hadn’t expected Sheng Hao to agree to Yun Zijin’s decision without even trying to argue.
"Sheng Tian, even if Miss Yun doesn’t hold this against you, once you return to the Sheng family, you’ll be half-dead even if you survive!"
The four great families of Dijing had a century-long legacy. While their industries had all transformed into their own corporate groups, many of the old family laws and regulations were still passed down.
However, for a reckless stunt like the one Sheng Tian pulled today, she would have to face the family’s disciplinary measures upon returning to the Sheng family.
When that happened, even if Sheng Tian didn’t die, she’d be left half-dead. Her fate wouldn’t necessarily be any better than it was here with Yun Zijin.
Sheng Tian looked at Sheng Hao in alarm. "What do you mean by that?"
Sheng Tian clearly didn’t understand what Sheng Hao meant.
"Why do you think the Sheng family is known as a prestigious old house with a century-long legacy?"
The older a family’s lineage, the more strictly they adhere to the rules set down by their ancestors.
Sheng Tian stared at Sheng Hao in disbelief, as if she were seeing him for the first time.
"I, for one, don’t have such cruel family rules that call for corporal punishment at the drop of a hat."
"I’m a good, law-abiding citizen. Zero One... call the police!"
"Let’s see... attempted murder, illegal possession of a controlled weapon."
"Oh, and trespassing on private property. What else is there?"
As she said the last words, Yun Zijin’s gaze bored straight into Sheng Tian’s eyes, as if she could see into the depths of her soul.
"What are you trying to do?"
With Sheng Hao no longer there to clean up her messes, Sheng Tian didn’t even have the courage to look at Yun Zijin.
"Didn’t I just say? I’m calling the police."
’But I won’t be the only one calling the police.’ Of course, Yun Zijin had no intention of telling Sheng Tian her plan.
"Yes, Miss!"
Zero One replied, then took out his phone and began tapping away at the screen.
No one knew who Zero One was messaging. Sheng Tian tried to slip away while no one was looking, but Ling Er immediately seized her, restraining her on the spot.
"Where are you off to in such a hurry, Miss Sheng? We’ve already called the police. I’m afraid we’ll have to trouble you to wait a moment. Uncle Hat will be here shortly."
"You! I’m a citizen of Hua Country! This is false imprisonment! It’s illegal!"
Sheng Tian couldn’t break free from Ling Er’s hold and could only desperately try to argue her case.
Unfortunately for her, almost everyone present had seen her try to stab Yun Zijin with the dagger. No one thought there was anything wrong with Yun Zijin’s bodyguard restraining her.
After all... if she got desperate and took one of the other guests hostage, the price would be too high.
Sheng Tian shot a pleading glance at Sheng Hao. He was the only one who could help her now.
Sheng Hao pretended not to see her. She had brought this all on herself.
As her older brother, Sheng Hao could put up with a lot from her, but she just had to go and provoke Yun Zijin. For that, he couldn’t be blamed for not backing her up.
"Mm, citizens of Hua Country do indeed need to be law-abiding. But... are you sure you’ve never done anything wrong?"
"Miss Sheng, some things can’t be denied just because you’ve covered them up."
Yun Zijin’s words made Sheng Tian’s pupils contract. She had no idea how much Yun Zijin actually knew.
"What could I have possibly done? Don’t try to pin other people’s crimes on me just to get me convicted, Yun Zijin."
"Don’t worry. If I have one virtue, it’s my honesty. I would never wrongly accuse you of something you didn’t do."
"However, we’ll leave it all for Uncle Hat to decide. Let’s just wait and see."
With that, Yun Zijin ignored Sheng Tian. After all, with Ling Er there, she wasn’t going anywhere.
Just then, Situ Yunliang came over, having heard the commotion. Seeing Yun Zijin at the center of a crowd, she worried that someone was bullying her.
"What’s going on here?"
Seeing Situ Yunliang, Sheng Tian looked as if she had found a lifeline.
"Miss Situ, you’re the hostess of this banquet. I’d like to ask you to be the judge of this situation."
Situ Yunliang had just started walking toward Yun Zijin when Sheng Tian unexpectedly spoke up.
Seeing her restrained by Ling Er, Situ Yunliang’s expression remained impassive. "Judge what?"
Seeing Sheng Tian actually turn to Situ Yunliang for judgment, Yun Zijin’s expression went blank for a second.
’You have to admit,’ Yun Zijin thought, ’Sheng Tian has some kind of luck on her side.’
"Miss Yun’s bodyguard restrained me for no reason at all. This is a clear violation of my personal freedom! As the host of this banquet, surely you won’t just stand by and let something like this happen."
"Zijin’s bodyguards are completely dedicated to their duty. They do nothing but protect her."
"The fact that you’re being restrained by her bodyguard means you just did something to harm her."
"And you want me to mediate? Do you really think I, as her mother, would rebuke my own daughter for the sake of an outsider?"
At that moment, Situ Yunliang’s powerful aura as the daughter of a financial magnate was on full display, but her words drove Sheng Tian to despair.
She knew the Situ Family was one of the top, most established plutocratic families in France, but she never imagined that this woman was the mother of Yun Zijin, the supposed orphan!
’Is there no escape for me this time?’
"Brother! Brother, save me!"
Even though Sheng Hao had already refused to help her, he was still the only person Sheng Tian could think to turn to.
"Can anyone tell me what just happened?"
Situ Yunliang still didn’t know what had transpired. At her question, Tu Tutu quickly gave her a concise but complete account of what had happened, with no embellishments.
The more Situ Yunliang listened, the colder her expression grew. By the end, her gaze toward Sheng Tian was glacial.
"Miss Sheng, is this what you call being ’restrained for no reason at all’?"
Situ Yunliang’s gaze toward Sheng Tian was venomous. If there was one thing she hated, it was being deceived!
’You can have your little schemes, but to lie to my face in front of so many people... that’s playing me for a fool.’
"Aunt Situ, it’s not like that! You must have been deceived by Yun Zijin! She’s the daughter of Xia Zhengguang, the chairman of the now-bankrupt Xia Group. How could she possibly be your daughter?"
Sheng Tian was still trying to turn Situ Yunliang against Yun Zijin.
"Hmph! You’re not wrong, but that doesn’t change the fact that Yun Zijin is my daughter!"
"You’re a daughter of the Sheng family, aren’t you? I remember hearing about you when I was an exchange student at Dijing University."
"I would have thought that a young woman from such a prestigious family would be a cultured and well-mannered lady, but I see I was mistaken..."
"The Sheng family is full of boys, isn’t it? I suppose they’re not very good at raising girls."
"You... certainly don’t carry yourself like a refined lady from a great house."
Situ Yunliang knew exactly how to hit someone where it hurt. Sheng Tian had always taken immense pride in her status as the precious daughter of the Sheng family.
But now, Situ Yunliang was telling her that she didn’t seem like a girl raised by the Sheng family at all.
Anyone would have been offended by such a remark, let alone someone with a disposition as proud as Sheng Tian’s.
