Role Stealer: The Script Executioner
Chapter 22: The Syntax of Immortality
The air in this new world didn’t just carry oxygen; it carried a heavy, viscous pressure that the system interface identified as ’High-Density Qi.’ To the thousands of disciples kneeling around him, it was the breath of the gods. To Arthur, it felt like trying to breathe through a thick layer of industrial coolant.
"The Sect Entrance Exam has begun," Long Chen’s voice boomed again from the golden throne. The sound waves were reinforced by a narrative multiplier, designed to instill absolute awe in anyone with a ’Protagonist’ or ’Side Character’ tag. "Only those with a Heavenly Root may proceed. The rest... are trash."
Arthur remained standing. Beside him, Leo and Clara were struggling to even keep their heads up. The transition had stripped them of their previous gear, replacing their combat suits and armor with thin, white linen robes that offered zero defensive stats.
"Kai, please," Clara whispered, her voice strained. "The pressure... it’s different here. It’s like the world itself wants us to kneel."
"That’s because it does," Arthur replied, his voice calm and terrifyingly level. "This genre operates on a hierarchy-based physics engine. The higher your ’Cultivation Realm,’ the more authority you have over the local environment variables. He isn’t just a king; he’s a high-priority process trying to suppress background tasks."
"What?" Leo gasped, looking up at the golden throne. "Who cares about variables? He’s going to kill us!"
A senior disciple, standing on a smaller floating rock to their left, pointed a glowing finger at Arthur. "You! Outer Disciple #9999! How dare you stand in the presence of the Heavenly Chosen One? Do you seek a swift end to your miserable life?"
Arthur turned his gaze toward the disciple. His Script Insight flickered, scanning the man’s bio-data.
[Target: Senior Disciple Chen Bo.]
[Level: Foundation Establishment (Early Stage).]
[Combat Power: 450.]
[Status: Arrogant / Expendable.]
"I was just wondering," Arthur said, ignoring the threat. "This ’Heavenly Root’ you’re so proud of... is it a hardware limitation or a software restriction?"
The entire plaza went silent. Even the wind seemed to stop. Thousands of disciples turned to look at the man who had just uttered blasphemy against the very foundation of their world.
Chen Bo’s face turned a deep shade of crimson. "Hardware? Software? You dare mock the Dao with your nonsensical gibberish? Guards! Execute this madman and his companions!"
Four guards in silver armor leaped from the edges of the platform, their spears glowing with blue light. They moved with a speed that would have been impossible in the Gothic world, their movements aided by the high Qi density of the sector.
"Clara, Leo, stay behind me," Arthur commanded.
He didn’t draw his blade yet. Instead, he raised his hand, his fingers twitching as he opened a hidden command prompt that only he could see.

"In every story, there’s a logic to how power is distributed," Arthur muttered as the guards closed in. "In a cultivation world, Qi is the energy source, and the Root is the interface. If I can’t use the interface, I’ll just tap directly into the power line."
The first guard thrust his spear at Arthur’s chest. The tip of the blade was inches away when Arthur suddenly stepped to the side—not with a physical dodge, but with a ’Frame Skip’ that moved his body three feet to the left in a single millisecond.
The guard stumbled, his momentum carrying him forward. Arthur didn’t punch him. He simply touched the guard’s shoulder and whispered:
"Disconnect."
[Command: Set ’User_Connection_Status’ to NULL for Target: Guard_01.]
The guard didn’t fall. He didn’t bleed. He simply went limp, his eyes rolling back into his head as if his soul had been unplugged from his body. He collapsed onto the stone like a puppet with its strings cut.
"What... what did you do?" the second guard shouted, skidding to a halt.
"I terminated his session," Arthur said. "He’ll wake up in a few hours, assuming the garbage collector doesn’t find him first."
The other three guards hesitated, their spears trembling. They had seen many things in the world of immortals—fireballs, flying swords, demonic transformations—but they had never seen a man stop a cultivator with a single word and a touch.
"Enough!"
The voice came from the throne. Long Chen stood up, his long black hair billowing in a wind that didn’t exist. The golden light around him intensified, turning the sky into a blinding sea of yellow.
"A glitch," Long Chen said, his eyes narrowing. "The Auditor warned me that a corruption had entered the sanctuary. You are the ’Role Stealer,’ the one who refuses to follow the script."
"And you’re the ’Heavenly Chosen One,’" Arthur replied, walking toward the center of the plaza. "The one who gets everything handed to him by the author because the plot demands a winner. Tell me, Long Chen, do you actually enjoy being a puppet, or do you just like the expensive robes?"
Long Chen laughed, a sound like cracking thunder. "A puppet? I am the master of this world! I have reached the Immortal Realm in less than twenty years! My word is law, and my Dao is absolute!"
"Your Dao is a set of pre-compiled instructions," Arthur said, his eyes beginning to glow with a dangerous orange light. "And I just found a backdoor in your kernel."
Arthur reached into his robe and pulled out the obsidian hilt. He didn’t ignite the blade yet. He held the cold metal in his hand, feeling the weight of the ’God-Slayer’ logic embedded within it.
"I’m going to give you a choice, Long Chen," Arthur said, his voice echoing across the entire mountain. "You can let us through the Sect Entrance without a fight, and I’ll leave your precious world intact. Or, you can try to ’clean the trash,’ and I’ll show you what happens when an Architect decides to delete the source code."
Long Chen’s expression shifted from amusement to pure, unadulterated rage. The golden throne beneath him shattered into a thousand pieces as he leaped into the air, a massive sword of pure light appearing in his hand.
"Die, you arrogant ant!"

[Estimated Win Probability: 0.04%.]
Arthur smiled. It was a cold, pragmatic smile that had no place in a world of heroes.
"Four percent?" Arthur whispered, his fingers flying across the invisible console. "I’ve worked with worse odds during a server migration. Elena... if you can hear me from the next partition, watch closely. This is how you kill a god."
The obsidian blade ignited, not with fire, but with a void so black it seemed to tear the very fabric of the Xianxia world.
