Chapter 776: Gloomy Abandoned Hospital
Chapter 776: Chapter 776: Gloomy Abandoned Hospital
Yang Cheng held Cheng Qiyue as they passed through the grass, the gravel and dry branches beneath their feet cracking sharply, instantly making her heart leap.
The main building of the hospital is a six-story structure, its exterior walls covered in withered vines, as if gripped tightly by countless dry hands. Due to the passage of time, the window glass is already shattered, and the hollow windows stare coldly at visitors like empty eyes.
Pushing open the half-open door, the rusty door emitted an ear-piercing creak, followed by a damp and moldy smell rushing forth.
The abandoned hospital lobby was a mess with overturned registration tables, scattered debris, overturned chairs, and large areas of unidentified stains on the ground, long dried and blackened.
Cheng Qiyue shuddered involuntarily and whispered, "Yang Cheng, put me down."
Yang Cheng appeared calm, scanning the surroundings with piercing eyes. His Pure Yang Dragon Physique was extremely sensitive to Yin Qi, allowing him to clearly sense the heavy, cold presence pervading the building, though it wasn’t the sensation of a Land of Extreme Yin as he imagined, more akin to a chilling presence left behind from prolonged abandonment and excessive death.
He knew Cheng Qiyue was frightened, so he directly carried her through the lobby, heading deep into the corridor.
The patient room doors on either side of the corridor were mostly open, revealing pitch-black interiors. In such a silent environment, his footsteps were particularly distinct.
By then, the sky had completely darkened. Yang Cheng could see in the dark, but Cheng Qiyue couldn’t discern the surroundings, inevitably feeling panicked and turned on her flashlight.
As a cultivator, he was extremely sensitive to Yin Qi. If there was any Yin Qi beyond what he was seeking, he would naturally detect it.
The Yin Qi inside the abandoned hospital was indeed heavy, but there were no legendary ghosts, just the figments of human imagination shaped by fear.
Yang Cheng didn’t waste any time and directly walked toward the area where he felt the strongest concentration of Yin Qi. Upon reaching this zone, Cheng Qiyue trembled from the cold.
"What is this place?"
"The morgue."
Yang Cheng said solemnly.
Cheng Qiyue’s body visibly stiffened, her arms squeezing tighter around his neck.
"Don’t be afraid, I’m holding you; even if there are ghosts, they won’t be able to get close to you."
He comforted her gently, kicking open the iron door in front with a thud, it sprung open, and a pungent stench rushed out.
It was the overpowering smell of corpse decay, so strong it was suffocating. Cheng Qiyue couldn’t help but retch, and Yang Cheng also slightly furrowed his brows.
The morgue was rather spacious, flanked by cold metal cabinets. The drawer-style storage compartments were neatly arranged, some ajar with empty interiors, while others were tightly shut, likely containing forgotten corpses.
Yang Cheng set Cheng Qiyue down, letting her lean against him. He then took out a jade bottle from his chest.
It contained a small amount of Jiang Yu’s blood, which he carried with him for testing purposes at any time.
"This is the place where the Yin Qi is heaviest at the hospital; I’m going to test it. If there’s no reaction, we’ll leave immediately."
He said, gesturing for Cheng Qiyue to step back, then concentrated and unleashed a palm strike at the center of the morgue floor, causing it to crack as the soil underneath churned up.
According to the Tome of the Ghost Doctor, the Moon Marrow Blood Platinum is buried about three meters deep beneath a Land of Extreme Yin, and can be revealed by pouring Pure Yin Body blood over it during a moonless night.
Yang Cheng promptly took out the porcelain bottle, uncorked it, and carefully poured a few drops of precious blood.
The dark red blood droplets slipped through the cracks in the soil, faintly glowing with a blood-colored sheen in the dim light.
Yang Cheng held his breath and focused, eyes glued to the ground. If Moon Marrow Blood Platinum was here, Jiang Yu’s blood should elicit some kind of resonance, perhaps glowing or being drawn by some force.
However...
One second, two seconds, three seconds passed, and nothing happened.
No glow, no reaction, not even a trace of an unusual presence.
"Is there none?"
Cheng Qiyue whispered.
Yang Cheng shook his head, storing the jade bottle, unable to hide his disappointment.
"Although the Yin Qi is heavy here, it’s not the Land of Extreme Yin we’re seeking. The site of Moon Marrow Blood Platinum would be a truly sinister place, gathering myriad restless souls, towering resentment. This... isn’t quite there."
He gazed around the morgue. Though chilling and eerie, the sense of gloom stemmed only from years of desolation and wasn’t the residue of restless souls’ accumulated grievances.
"Let’s go; there’s nothing we need here."
Yang Cheng lifted Cheng Qiyue again, striding out of the stifling building.
Outside the hospital gates, it was already pitch black. The night wind, carrying autumn’s chill, dispersed the lingering cold from the two.
Cheng Qiyue took a deep breath, finally feeling alive.
"What do we do now? Where are we going?"
She asked.
"First back to the Kong Family Villa. We need to carefully check the data and determine our next destination."
Yang Cheng drove straight towards the city.
It was just after dinner time, and seeing a car parked outside the villa surprised some as it was so late.
"Lin Wen, it’s me."
Yang Cheng’s voice rang out, and Kong Lingwen quickly hastened outside to greet him.
"Why did you come back so soon?"
She looked delighted, instinctively rushing into Yang Cheng’s embrace.
"Let’s talk inside."
Yang Cheng smiled slightly and then led her by the hand inside.
Seeing him enter, everyone in the living room turned their gaze. Cheng Ruonan couldn’t resist rushing to him, linking her arm around his other one.
"Don’t play around; Elder Kong is still here."
Yang Cheng reminded her quietly. Now he was Kong Lingwen’s fiancé; it was not appropriate to be affectionate with other women in front of Elder Kong.
"I missed you!"
Cheng Ruonan pouted, a bit dissatisfied as she let go, but still followed closely behind him. After he sat down, she gently took a seat beside him.
"Xiaochen, are things sorted there?"
Elder Kong inquired as if he hadn’t noticed Cheng Ruonan and Yang Cheng’s earlier display of closeness.
Yang Cheng shook his head and said, "I went to Linzhou to treat the Jiang Family’s young lady, but her condition is quite serious and requires a very special medicinal lead. I can only stay at the villa for one night; I need to set out tomorrow to search for the lead, so my wedding with Lin Wen has to be postponed."
Elder Kong initially intended to host a grand wedding soon, showcasing to Zhonghai that the Kong Family hadn’t fallen. He still had a formidable granddaughter and grandson-in-law. Now, Yang Cheng was saying the wedding had to be delayed.
He felt a bit disappointed, but Kong Lingwen quickly spoke to persuade him: "Grandpa, I think a wedding this month is too rushed. A wedding is extremely important for a woman, and my wedding dress takes three months to tailor. It’ll be perfect timing when Yang Cheng finishes his tasks."
