Chapter 1028: Chapter 1013: Robbing the Robbers (Part 4)
"Upstairs, there... there’s still someone." The man with the earring hung his head in defeat, helpless.
Sure enough, upon hearing this, Old Xu grabbed the man’s collar, eyes blazing, and reprimanded, "How did I instruct you before? Don’t try to fool me! Why hide that there are still people upstairs?"
"I, I... Actually..."
"Cut the crap! Tell me, how many accomplices are downstairs?"
"Two, two. They, they aren’t my people; they are..."
"What are they?"
"They’re women, the women we kidnapped before. Haha, boss, those two girls are pretty nice looking. If you fancy them, take them with you, I guarantee you..."
"Bang!" Before the word "satisfied" could leave his mouth, Xu Renjie swung a punch at the man’s cheek.
Old Xu despised those who abused women more than anything else in his life.
If a person doesn’t know how to respect women, then their character and morals are certainly lacking.
Old Xu’s punch was powerful, knocking the man back several steps.
Upon stopping, he staggered and fell to the ground. Bear in mind that his leg was already injured; this fall only exacerbated the wound on his right leg, causing him enormous pain.
"Pfft!" As expected, he spat out a mouthful of blood, with half a front tooth mixed in.
The man with the earring had only just begun to plead and explain, when unexpectedly, Old Xu was already striding toward him.
Watching Old Xu’s menacing steps, the man desperately retreated on his knees, wearing a terrified expression as he sensed the crushing weight of despair.
But he hadn’t considered that the despair he was experiencing now was exactly what he had once inflicted on those women.
Old Xu bent down, wasting no time with words, and lifted the man off the ground with one hand. He harshly rasped two words: "Lead the way!!"
Hobbling in pain, the man with the earring limped toward the door.
Upon reaching the door, Hu Xiaodong noticed the man’s pathetic appearance and frowned slightly.
When Old Xu followed out, Hu immediately asked, "What’s up, Old Xu? What happened inside?"
Old Xu was clearly still angry. He vented his rage by slapping the man on the head, the force producing a muffled sound.
Luckily, the man hadn’t yet reached the threshold, otherwise, Old Xu’s blow would have had him sprawled out.
"Nothing much, Lei and I will go check the second floor; you continue guarding the first floor."
Hu Xiaodong recognized Old Xu’s anger and didn’t press further. After glancing at the subdued man, he stepped aside to make way for the trio.
Old Xu and his group sauntered downward, arriving upstairs where, as usual, the man opened the door.
But just as the man moved to enter, Old Xu stopped him.
"Hold on!"
The man was obviously terrified by Old Xu’s previous actions; even a mild command from him caused him to shiver.
"Bi, big brother, what do you need?"
"Open that other door too!"
"Thi, this..."
"What? You don’t want to?" With Old Xu clearly tightening his fist, the man hurriedly retreated, waving his hands: "No, no, no, big brother, I didn’t mean that, haha, I wouldn’t dare refuse. That, that door is already open; we pried it open earlier and left it that way."
His eyes flicked slightly. Old Xu remembered that the keys Lei Tong had retrieved from the man’s pocket only numbered three.
With the downstairs and the current room now accounted for, it just matched three rooms.
With that settled... he gave a nod to Lei Tong behind him, who understood immediately and stepped toward the opposite room.
Holding his gun, Lei Tong reached for the handle. Despite the man’s logical explanation, caution is paramount.
One of the most crucial rules of combat: never trust the enemy’s words, even when you hold complete control.
Grasping the iron railing of the door, Lei Tong looked toward Old Xu.
Old Xu promptly dragged the man over, pushing him to the side of the railing.
No doubt, he was using the man as a human shield again, to which the man could only manage a pained grimace.
Truthfully, being pushed around like this was an unbearable experience, hard for anyone to accept.
Especially when the man was accustomed to flaunting power and bullying others amidst the apocalypse.
Hence, the abrupt role reversal now plunges him into true despair.
Old Xu couldn’t care less about the scumbag’s feelings. Since the enemy chose not to regard others as human, they should be prepared for the day when others reciprocate.
Once positioned, Old Xu signaled Lei Tong to proceed.
Lei Tong swiftly pulled open the door, accompanied by a loud creak from the hinges, and the partly ajar frame swung open.
Old Xu first pushed the man inside, then hid behind him, gun aimed inward.
As seasoned reconnaissance soldiers, Old Xu and Lei Tong’s movements were swift as the wind.
They rapidly assessed each corner, though this left the man acting as a shield quite distressed.
Understandably, he wasn’t a soldier; despite being a bandit for some time, his slender physique couldn’t match their pace.
Moreover, his leg was injured; any rapid movement would inevitably aggravate the injury.
Yet, even being treated like cattle, the man could only dutifully fulfill his role in silence.
It’s often said that one must endure their self-made hardships no matter what.
With a two-room apartment, the area wasn’t vast, so their inspection was quick, soon concluding the sweep.
Predictably, everything was in order, without any anomalies.
For this, the man sighed in relief, thinking: Can I catch a breath now?
But he was clearly too optimistic; no sooner had the last bedroom been checked, Old Xu unceremoniously grabbed him by the back, forcefully swinging him in a 360-degree turn.
Once ready, without hesitation, he shoved him out the door.
Old Xu was in no mood to linger; he had other tasks at hand, and this place remained the enemy’s base. Despite appearing safe now, it wasn’t certain whether the surviving nine thugs would return.
Of course, Old Xu wasn’t concerned about those nine thugs.
After all, he had faced opponents hundreds, even thousands of times more numerous.
Moreover, regarding combat skills and weaponry, these thugs were hardly impressive.
But the problem was, a battle here would leave no time to move supplies from the second-floor room.
Once gunfire erupts, zombies would certainly swarm at the sound.
Old Xu was confident he could defeat the nine surviving thugs but unsure if he could withstand a city of walking corpses.
Hence, he must quickly relocate the supplies indoors before considering his next steps. (To be continued. If you enjoy this work, please visit Qidian (qidian.com) to recommend or vote monthly tickets. Your support is my greatest motivation. Mobile users, please read at m.qidian.com)
