Chapter 1144: Chapter 1132

Without protective walls, if an emergency were to break out, the survivors would have to spread their limited manpower thinly, inevitably resulting in a lack of combat strength.

Even so, it’s still impossible to guarantee prevention against enemy invasions, as there are far too many places to enter between the villages.

The survivor officers had earlier utilized wood and wire to make fences to hell against intruders.

But everyone clearly knows, relying on those things can work against occasional zombies, but dealing with a horde of zombies or malicious humans, it’s really...

"Hmm, I mostly agree with what Lao Lin said, but at the same time as constructing walls, the home repairs should also be conducted. This snowstorm season, I’m sure everyone felt the impact. The houses we live in have structural flaws; if we don’t strengthen them, it could result in a serious disaster."

Zhao Yunhai’s words quickly resonated with everyone. After all, while walls are important, they ultimately haven’t posed any substantial threat to the survivors.

Even though there have been a few false alarms in the past, because they never materialized into reality, the survivors haven’t felt that the presence or absence of walls is so significant.

But the deterioration of the houses is different; the consecutive days of snowstorms have let every survivor feel the threat coming from dilapidated buildings.

To avoid snow from collapsing the rooftops, they had to climb and scrape off the snow periodically, even if the piercing cold winds at midnight made them brave the frostbite.

These pains truly lay before the survivors; they genuinely experience that kind of helplessness and hardship.

When Lao Zhao brought up the topic of house repairs, everyone quickly put down their bowls and chopsticks, vocally expressing agreement.

"Emma, this house really needs fixing. You don’t know, those several nights the wind was so strong, I thought it was haunted."

"Chaozi, that’s why you’re foolish! You never get to the essence. What’s the big deal with wind? Do you forget the night we spent sweeping snow? I’m not bragging, but that shivering sound isn’t much different from a ghost wailing!" Wen Quanxin clicked his tongue and took a sip of hot soup.

"Alright, alright! We’re discussing serious matters, you two stop the nonsense! Lao Zhao, the house safety concerns everybody’s life, this issue is no small matter. I agree to assign a team specially for this task." Hu Xiaodong interrupted Wu and Wen’s banter, decisively voicing his approval.

Upon hearing this, Old Xu lightly tapped the table with his fingers: "Hmm, alright, we’ll split into two groups, one for the walls, another for the houses. But mainly, let’s focus our energy on the walls first. As for the houses, let’s fix those with good structural integrity first, then slowly handle the rest."

Old Xu weighed the options and felt that the site’s security is paramount.

After all, if there’s no solid and complete protective wall as a backup, even if you refurbish the lodgings, it would be meaningless.

If there’s a sudden attack, the survivors would once again hand over their painstakingly built haven to others, which Old Xu does not wish to see.

On the other hand, housing conditions can be lacking, as long as the walls are strong enough, even camping inside would allow peace of mind, wouldn’t it?

"But this way, Lao Zhao, you’ll have to bear more of the workload. We’ll do our best to cooperate!"

No one here can substitute Zhao Yunhai’s work, to which Zhao Yunhai waved dismissively: "No problem! No problem! What’s so difficult about this? This is what I eat for dinner. Comparing building walls and houses to my previous jobs, it’s really not an issue!"

Old Zhao wasn’t bluffing. He could even build skyscrapers, let alone a mere city wall and a few small houses.

If anything were to hinder his progress, it would likely be the lack of specialized machinery and tools at his disposal.

"Does anyone else have anything to add?" Xu Renjie stirred his soup spoon, occasionally sipping.

The survivors glanced at each other before Lao Lin spoke up: "Our manpower is limited. Let’s focus on the two previously mentioned tasks first, and handle others later."

Nodding, Old Xu agreed: "Alright, since that’s the case, let’s proceed as planned."

After lunch, everyone took a rest, while the plans to resume work on the walls in the afternoon were underway.

This is an important task, undeniably important, and all the survivors understand this. Thus, Old Xu didn’t emphasize too much at the table, knowing everyone would voluntarily appear at the worksite.

Old Zhao returned indoors, prepared some hot tea to soothe his throat, and after drinking, was ready to undress and head to the bedroom, but unexpectedly, his daughter Zhao Lina, along with Wei Yang, entered together.

"Oh, Nana, you’re done with your tasks?"

"Yes, just finished tidying up."

"You two must be tired, Little Wei today you cooked so much, not easy!" Raising his finger towards Wei Yang, he gave her a thumbs-up.

Wei Yang shook her head and smiled: "No worries Zhao Uncle, Little Lina and Demmi both helped. Without them, how could I manage so fast."

"Wei姐, don’t be modest! Little Mi and I were just assisting, hardly helped you. The main work was done by you." Zhao Lina graciously attributed the credit to Wei Yang.

Old Zhao looked at the two girls before him with a kind expression, filled with comfort and relief.

In times past, Old Zhao thought he might never see his daughter again, so upon meeting Wei Yang, he regarded her like his own daughter.

But unexpectedly, his own daughter has now returned to him.

For all this, Old Xu is filled with gratitude, thanking the heavens for this blessing, while grateful for having two daughters by his side during the apocalypse.

Amidst Old Zhao’s warmth, Zhao Lina pulled him back to reality.

"Dad, Wei姐 and I came over to discuss something with you."

"Oh? Something important?" Slightly confused, Old Zhao glanced at the two before him, then straightened up and asked seriously: "What is it, let me hear."

"Like this Zhao Uncle, we’re planning..."

"Hey, Wei姐, let me say it, let me say it." Tugging Wei Yang’s sleeves, Zhao Lina gave her a look.

Seeing this, Wei Yang smiled and nodded, stopping her explanation.

"Haha, what’s with the mystery? You insist on saying it?" Feeling quite joyful, Old Zhao fixed his gaze on his daughter.

Zhao Lina tossed her ponytail: "Of course, it’s a big deal. Dad, Wei姐 and I decided to organize a celebration."

"A celebration!?" With this statement, Old Zhao furrowed his brows: "What’s with you wanting a celebration out of the blue? Can you tell me why?"

"See, Wei姐, I told you, my dad wouldn’t understand the situation, right?"
