Chapter 1018: DEATH
Chapter 1018: DEATH
GLENN had his heart in his throat while watching everything happen fast right in front of his eyes.
Lady Avigail Barlowe, the Royal Archmage, along with other mages, surrounded Brigitte.
Then they created what seemed like a barrier.
It was no ordinary barrier, of course.
Glenn could see the golden Mana flowing inside the barrier.
And that was when he realized what it was.
They’re healing my wife...
Brigitte was still unconscious, and they didn’t have the time to clean her up or at least change the sheets that were covered in her blood.
It looked morbid.
Brigitte, my queen...
"Your wife won’t die."
Glenn lifted his head and met Commander Ruto Solfrid’s indifferent gaze.
To be honest, he was still upset with the young commander.
And he was even more annoyed after he noticed that Commander Ruto Solfrid was holding his daughter tight as if he had no intention to let go.
"I’m relieved to hear that, Commander Solfrid," Glenn said cautiously. Of course, he was relieved to hear from the young commander that his wife wouldn’t die. However, he could no longer trust the person who cut his wife’s stomach open so indifferently. "But may I know how you can be so sure that my wife won’t die?"
"Because this little one won’t let her mother die."
Oh.
Glenn looked at his daughter with warm eyes. "My daughter is protecting her mother...?"
"Yes, you can say that," Commander Ruto Solfrid confirmed while nodding. "As you already know, your daughter kept herself alive inside your wife’s womb by absorbing her mother’s life force little by little."
"I absolutely didn’t know that, Commander Solfrid."
"Ah. Then now you know."
Glenn waited for the young commander to explain more, but the young commander remained silent.
Haaah.
I almost forgot how socially awkward this young man is...
"Commander Solfrid, I mean this in the most positive way possible— please don’t let Princess Neoma go," Glenn said, grabbing the young commander by the shoulders. "Please. Our Imperial Princess is the only woman in the world who could handle you."
"Thank you for rooting for us."
"That’s not really my intention, but you’re welcome," Glenn said, letting go of the young commander’s shoulders. Talking to Commander Ruto Solfrid was like talking to a wall. But, as an elder, he couldn’t just give up on the young man. "Commander Ruto, can you explain the thing about my daughter eating at her mother’s life force? Does it mean my wife’s life span was shortened?"
"Yes, Her Majesty’s life span was shortened."
Glenn almost cried on the spot.
Fortunately, this time, the young commander elaborated.
"But it’s only a few days’ worth."
Glenn frowned. "It’s still a few days’ worth, Commander Solfrid."
"Then you can just die after the queen died, Your Majesty."
That sounded really disrespectful.
But Glenn knew that Commander Ruto Solfrid was only offering a piece of advice that he would do himself.
If Princess Neoma dies today, this young man will kill himself on the spot.
Hence, he didn’t get offended by what Commander Ruto Solfrid said.
And the young man is just really awkward like that.
"If it’s any consolation, the queen has developed a Core in her heart," Commander Ruto Solfrid continued with his explanation. "Hence, the queen can now produce Mana. And that Mana of hers will prevent her from dying. As you already know, people with Mana live longer than ordinary civilians."
Gleen was relieved and amazed to know that, however, he still didn’t quite understand. "Has there been a precedent? This is the first time I’ve heard of a Non-Mana user develop a Core that allows her to produce Mana."
"I can’t say that there’s no precedent confidently, but I can tell you that this happened to the queen because your daughter is special," Commander Ruto Solfrid explained. "The world needs your daughter, so it helped the queen’s body to develop a Core. After all, the queen needs to survive in order to give birth to your daughter."
Haaah.
"Don’t get me wrong, Commander Solfrid. I’m happy that my children are special," Glenn said awkwardly. "But why did it have to be my children? They’re so young, and yet the world already needs them."
"It’s because they didn’t exist in the past timeline."
"Huh?"
"Your children only existed in this timeline because Neoma helped you and the queen to get together," Commander Ruto Solfrid explained bluntly. "This world needs people who didn’t exist in the past timeline in order to completely change our fate."
Oh.
Glenn felt like he got the gist, but he was still confused.
However, he didn’t have the time to think harder because Commander Ruto Solfrid asked a question that almost made him curse at the young commander.
"Your Majesty, can I borrow your daughter for a moment?"
"Where will you bring my daughter?"
"To meet a sleeping monster," Commander Ruto Solfrid said as if it were no big deal. "The monster that your daughter is supposed to tame."
Glenn was in disbelief. "Commander, are you crazy?"

NEOMA hugged the Aether like it asked her to do.
Much to her surprise, the gigantic tree shrank until it was tall and ’thin’ enough for her arms to wrap around it perfectly.
Of course, she wasn’t the only one who was impressed.
"I can’t believe it was possible for a tree that reached the heavens to shrink that much," Trevor said in disbelief. "What kind of sorcery is that?"
"I do not wish to speak with a Sorcerer."
Pfft.
Neoma smiled because of what the Aether said.
But the clueless Trevor didn’t hear it.
I’m the only one who can hear the Aether, huh?
That was nice.
"Lady Aether, tell me," Neoma said carefully, still hugging the tree. She could feel the warm energy and pure Mana entering her body. It was actually so relaxing that she was fighting hard not to fall asleep. Hence, she started a conversation. "I know you wouldn’t have helped me for free. So, tell me. What do you wish to accomplish by giving me everything you have?"
The answer came shortly in a sad, bitter voice.
"Death— I wish nothing but my death, de Moonasterion Princess."
