Ruined By The Wrong Brother
Chapter 165 - 0165: You’re A Disgrace
Chapter 165: Chapter 0165: You’re A Disgrace
Elena’s Point Of View
I stared at her. Something inside me, some final thread of restraint that had held for three long years, finally snapped.
Then I laughed. It started as a choke, a harsh, bitter sound that clawed its way up my throat, my sides aching as the laughter tore through me, my vision blurring with unshed tears. I doubled over, my hand pressing against my stomach, the other stretching out toward her as I wheezed, my voice breaking between gasps.
Somewhere beneath the hysteria, a small, quiet part of me marveled at how freeing it felt to finally let the mask shatter completely, to stop performing the role of the composed, dutiful wife I had worn for so long that I’d nearly forgotten it was a costume at all.
"Wait... wait a minute..." I managed, my breath hitching, my body shaking with the force of it. I straightened, wiping at my eyes, my voice raw with amusement. "What did you just say? Repeat it. Please."
Matilda’s face flushed a violent, blotchy crimson, her nostrils flaring in outrage. "You heard me, you ungrateful little..."
"No, no, I need to hear it again." My laughter bubbled up again, hysterical, uncontrolled, the sound echoing off the vaulted ceilings like a mockery of their gilded palace. "Because this is rich. This is pure, unadulterated comedy!"
"Laugh all you want, Elena!" Lillian barked, her fake sweetness instantly vanishing as she took another aggressive step forward, her voice rising to a sharp, venomous pitch. "Try to laugh away the fact that you’re a hypocrite! You stood at the gala acting like the grieving, betrayed wife, and the second you got out of sight, you ran off to be entertained by some random guy! You were in a man’s bed while Graham was here, stressed out, trying to cover for your public meltdown!"
"Stressed?" I wiped a tear from the corner of my eye, my laugh dying down into a low, terrifying smile. "Graham was stressed? Oh, I’m sure he was beside himself. Was he stressing while he poured you another glass of sparkling juice, Lillian? Or was he stressing while your mother-in-law here was picking out baby cribs for the nursery?"
"Don’t you dare twist this!" Graham roared, taking a long, furious stride toward me, his fists clenched so tight his knuckles bled white. "Answer the damn question, Elena! Did you leave my event to go to a man’s house?!"
I looked Graham dead in the eye. I didn’t flinch. I didn’t back away. I slowly uncrossed my arms, letting the oversized, heavy cotton of the shirt shift over my shoulders, exposing the bare skin of my collarbone.
"And what if I did?" I asked.
The five words dropped into the cavernous foyer like heavy iron weights.
Silence fell so fast you could hear the low hum of the air conditioning unit through the walls. Matilda let out a choked sound, her hand flying to her mouth as if she’d been struck. Lillian’s smug expression froze mid-sneer, her eyes widening in pure shock.
Graham went deathly still. The vein in his temple throbbed wildly, his breathing turning ragged, heavy, and dangerous.
"What... did you say?" he whispered, his voice dropping into a lethal, suffocating register.
"I said... what if I did?" My voice was smooth, velvety, and entirely devoid of fear. I took a slow, deliberate step toward him, tilting my head as I studied the sudden, ugly panic breaking through his polished composure, savoring it the way he had once savored my humiliation.
"What if I left that suffocating, fake room full of your pretentious board members, got into a real man’s car, and let him take me away from you? What if I let him peel off that dress you bought me... the one you picked out just so I’d look like a quiet, obedient arm ornament, and put his shirt over my shoulders because he actually noticed I was shaking?"
"Elena!" Matilda shrieked, scrambling off the sofa, her voice cracking in hysterical outrage. "Listen to her! She’s confessing! She’s standing in your house boasting about her sins! Call the security team! Drag her out of here!"
"Shut up, Mother!" Graham snapped without taking his eyes off me. He stepped directly into my space, his chest heaving under his tailored suit jacket, his dark eyes searching every millimeter of my face for a crack, a lie, a hint of bluffing. "You’re lying. You’re just trying to hurt me because you’re angry about Lillian’s pregnancy. You didn’t go to any man. You don’t have anyone."
"Don’t I?" I let out a soft, mocking hum, stepping even closer until I could feel the furious heat radiating off his body. "Keep telling yourself that, Graham. Keep believing that every woman in this city is as desperate for your crumbs as Lillian is. Keep believing that the world revolves around the great Graham Sinclair."
"Who was he, Elena?!" Graham grabbed my upper arm, his fingers digging into my skin through the thick sleeve of the shirt. "Give me a name! Was it someone from the office? Was it one of my associates?! Who touched you?!"
"Get your hands off me," I said, my voice dropping an octave, so cold and sharp it sliced right through his rising rage.
He didn’t let go. His grip tightened, his jaw working overtime as he glared down at me.
"I am your husband! Until those papers are processed... which will never happen, you are Mrs. Sinclair! You carry my name, you live under my protection, and you do not go out spreading your legs for other men to get back at me!"
"Protection?" I barked out a harsh, incredulous laugh, yanking my arm out of his grip with enough force to send him back a half-step. "Protection from what?! From the humiliation you handed me every single day? From the rumor mills you fed every time you took your mistress on weekend trips while I stayed home waiting for you to answer your phone?!"
"I gave you everything!" Graham shouted, his face turning dark, mottled red. "A penthouse! An unlimited account! Status! You had respect!"
"I had a golden leash!" I screamed back, the full weight of three years of quiet agony tearing out of my chest, my voice booming off the marble pillars. "I had a mother-in-law who checked my stomach every Sunday like I was livestock! I had a husband who stopped touching me the second a doctor used the word ’unexplained infertility’! You didn’t give me respect, Graham! You gave me an allowance and expected me to shut up while you built a second family right under my nose!"
Lillian stepped in front of Graham, her hands clutching her belly, her eyes wide with frantic, defensive fury.
"You couldn’t give him what he needed, Elena! A man like Graham needs a legacy! He needs an heir! You failed as a wife, and now you’re acting like a wild animal because I succeeded where you couldn’t!"
I turned my head slowly, locking my gaze onto Lillian until she involuntarily took a small step back, her confidence wavering beneath the sheer, raw hatred in my eyes.
"You didn’t succeed at anything, Lillian," I said, my voice dropping back into a deadly, steady quiet that made her tremble. "You got knocked up by a married man who used you as a backup plan because his ego couldn’t handle a childless home. You think that baby in your stomach makes you special? It makes you a permanent reminder of his cowardice. The second that child is born, you’ll just be another mouth he has to pay off to keep out of the tabloids."
"Graham!" Lillian whimpered, turning her face toward his shoulder, her lower lip trembling in sudden, desperate tears. "Listen to how she talks about our baby! Tell her to leave! Make her sign the papers and throw her out!"
"She’s not leaving until she tells me who gave her that shirt," Graham growled, shoving Lillian’s hand off his arm with a callous, abrupt jerk that made her gasp. He took another step toward me, his shadow darkening over my face. "You think you can just walk out of here and start a new life? With whose money, Elena? You have nothing without me!"
"I have my freedom," I said, lifting my chin high, staring right through the man I used to spend every night praying would love me back, remembering all the nights I’d waited by the window for headlights that never came, all the excuses I’d invented for him in my own head just to fall asleep without breaking.
"And that is worth more than every single penny in the Sinclair bank accounts."Matilda stepped forward, her face twisted in pure, unadulterated venom, her voice shaking with disgust.
"You insolent, low-class little leech. My son took you out of the gutter! He clothed you, he fed you, he gave you a seat at tables your family couldn’t even dream of touching! And you repay us by dragging our name through the dirt with some random stranger in a hotel room?!"
I turned to Matilda. I took in the pristine white hair, the diamond earrings, the custom silk dress, and the utter, rotting hypocrisy sitting right beneath her polished surface, a woman who had spent years perfecting the art of cruelty disguised as concern, who had smiled at charity galas while poisoning me slowly at her own dinner table.
I thought of every Sunday dinner where she’d studied my plate, my waistline, my silence, searching for something new to criticize, and I felt no anger anymore, only a vast, hollow pity for the woman she’d chosen to become.
"Coming from a woman who lets her son stay out for days, weeks..." I turned back to Graham, my voice low, venomous, every syllable coated in absolute poison. "Did I ever question you?"
Graham opened his mouth, but no sound came out.
"Did I?" I demanded, my voice cracking, the weight of three years of absolute betrayal tearing through my throat. "No. That’s because I trusted you."
The word trust hung in the cold, expensive air between us, bitter as ash, a relic of the woman I used to be before this house taught me better, before I learned that love in this family came with invoices attached.
"And you..."I whirled on Matilda, my voice dropping like a whip, my finger pointing straight at her pale, trembling face like a loaded gun.
"You’re no mother to me."Matilda gasped, her eyes wide with shock.
"A woman who supports her son’s wayward life, who encourages his infidelity, who welcomes his mistress into her home like some twisted family reunion..." My breath came in sharp, ragged gasps, my chest heaving against the oversized cotton shirt, my knuckles white as I clenched my hands into fists.
I looked at all three of them.. Graham, standing there with his fragile ego crumbling in real-time; Lillian, clinging to her stomach like a shield against the truth; and Matilda, horrified that someone finally dared to strip away her fake morality. Three years of silence rose in my chest like a tide I could no longer hold back, three years of swallowed words finally demanding to be spoken.
I thought of the girl I’d been before all of this, the one who’d believed marriage meant partnership rather than ownership, and I mourned her quietly even as I felt her slipping away for good, replaced by someone harder, someone finally unwilling to disappear for the comfort of people who had never once tried to understand her.
My lips peeled back in absolute disgust, my voice ringing out through the grand foyer one last time, cold, final, and lethal:
"You’re no woman. You’re a disgrace."
