Chapter 283: Chapter 0283: You’re Not Going Anywhere, Elena

Elena’s Point Of View

I stared into his eyes, and for the first time, I didn’t see the cocky, untouchable billionaire or the teasing man who liked to pull my strings. What I saw in that dark, swirling depth scared the absolute hell out of me. It was a cocktail of raw need, unadulterated want, and something sharper... something that looked dangerously like obsession.

There was no mask left, no careful performance of indifference. Just him, stripped down to something feral and unguarded, and the sight of it terrified me more than any of his usual games ever had.

The intensity of his gaze made my pulse hammer against my ribs, each beat a frantic drum warning me to flee. I felt it in my throat, in my fingertips, in the pit of my stomach where something hot and unwelcome had begun to unfurl.

I swallowed hard, my throat suddenly feeling like I’d been wandering through a desert for days without water. My brain became a chaotic mess of conflicting impulses... run away warring with never let go, self-preservation battling against the treacherous pull of desire. I’d spent weeks building walls against this exact feeling, brick by careful brick, and in the span of a single look, he’d reduced them all to rubble.

Words failed me completely.

Even breathing seemed like a skill I’d forgotten how to master, as if my body had betrayed every instinct for survival. My hands trembled slightly where they rested against his shoulders, and I hated how vulnerable that small movement made me feel. I hated it because it was true, because no amount of sarcasm or sharp words could disguise the fact that I was unraveling in his arms, thread by helpless thread.

A low, rough chuckle rumbled from Jaxx’s chest, vibrating against mine as his grip on my thighs tightened possessively. I remained wrapped around his waist, caught in his orbit like a planet with no hope of escape. The comparison felt apt... I was helpless against whatever gravitational pull he exerted, drawn inexorably closer despite every rational thought screaming at me to push away. I could feel the warmth of him seeping into my skin, a slow, insidious heat that made rational thought feel like a luxury I could no longer afford.

"Speechless, huh, Bambina?" he murmured, his breath warm against my cheek, carrying the faint scent of whiskey and something darker, more intoxicating. "That’s a first. I was expecting at least three minutes of insults and a lecture on personal space by now."

I still didn’t react. I couldn’t. The air had grown too thick, too heavy with the weight of him, with the electricity crackling between our bodies like a live wire. My heart thundered so loudly I wondered if he could hear it, if he could feel the way my entire body had become a traitor to my better judgment.

Every nerve ending seemed to fire at once, creating a symphony of sensation I couldn’t silence or ignore. I was acutely aware of every point where we touched, as though his hands had left brands on my skin that no amount of time would ever fade.

His eyes searched mine, reading every flicker of emotion I couldn’t hide, cataloging my vulnerabilities with the precision of a man who made his fortune understanding people’s weaknesses. It should have made me angry, being read so easily, but instead it left me feeling strangely seen, as if no one had ever bothered to look this closely before.

The intensity of his gaze stripped away my defenses layer by layer, leaving me exposed in ways that had nothing to do with our physical proximity. I felt naked in a way that had nothing to do with clothing, as though he could see straight through to the frightened, hopeful thing I kept buried beneath all my bravado.

"Do you even have a clue how long I’ve thought of this exact moment?" His voice dropped into a raspy, intimate whisper that sent shivers cascading down my spine, pooling heat low in my belly. "You... me... alone in this room, stripped of everything. I’ve thought about it so much the thought almost drove me insane."

He paused, and I watched his throat work as he swallowed hard, as if the admission cost him something precious. For a man who commanded boardrooms and bent people to his will without a second thought, this fragile honesty seemed to cost him more than any business empire ever could.

"I’ve been a saint, Elena," he continued, and there was something almost pained in his expression now, a crack in his usual unshakeable confidence. "I haven’t touched you for the past few weeks even though you are practically living in my suite, haunting my every goddamn thought. Do you know what torture that is? Watching you walk around in those silk pajamas, seeing you curled up on my couch with your books, smelling your shampoo on my pillows?"

His fingers flexed against my skin, betraying the control he was barely maintaining, the restraint that seemed ready to snap at any second. I could feel the tension coiled in his muscles, the way his body trembled with the effort of holding back. It was strange, almost dizzying, to witness a man so accustomed to control standing on the edge of losing it entirely, and to know that I was the reason.

The confession hung between us, weighted with implications I wasn’t ready to face. Part of me wanted to mock him, to throw up my usual defensive walls and deflect with sarcasm, but the words stuck in my throat. Something about the raw honesty in his voice paralyzed my typical responses, leaving me floundering in unfamiliar territory. I’d always had a retort ready, a wall of wit to hide behind, but against this version of him, stripped of pretense, I had nothing.

"And whose fault is that?" I finally managed to croak out, my voice sounding like a ghost of itself, hollow and unconvincing. The words came out weaker than I’d intended, lacking any real bite or the sharp edge I usually wielded like a weapon. Even I could hear the tremor beneath them, the uncertainty that undermined whatever point I’d been trying to make.

Another dark, primal chuckle escaped him, and I felt it reverberate through my entire body, awakening something primitive and dangerous inside me. "Mine, baby. Entirely mine. And I’ll accept it, because I’m not letting you go. Not now, not ever."

His hand moved from my thigh to cup my face, his thumb tracing the line of my jaw with unexpected tenderness that made my chest ache. The gentleness of it startled me more than his earlier intensity had, a contradiction I didn’t know how to reconcile with the dangerous man holding me.

"You’re not going anywhere, Elena," he said, his eyes burning into mine with frightening certainty, with a conviction that made my blood run cold and hot simultaneously. There was no arrogance in his tone now, just absolute certainty, as if he was stating an immutable fact of the universe rather than making a claim on another person. I searched for a trace of performance in his words and found none, only the terrifying weight of a man who meant exactly what he said.

"Even if it means I have to wife you up before you fully accept the fact, I’ll do it." Each word fell deliberate and measured, like stones dropping into still water, creating ripples that would spread far beyond this moment. "I’ll put a ring on this finger just to make sure the rest of the world knows who you belong to."

He caught my left hand, bringing it between us, his thumb brushing over my ring finger with deliberate intent. The gesture felt both impossibly intimate and terrifyingly possessive, a silent vow pressed into my skin that I wasn’t ready to accept or deny.

A silence descended, pressing down on us like a physical force. I couldn’t breathe. My mind reeled, trying to process his words, to make sense of something that defied all logic and reason. The room seemed to shrink around us, the air itself thick with the gravity of what he’d just declared.

Marriage? He was talking about marriage? We barely knew each other. We’d spent more time arguing than anything else. This was insane.

And yet, some traitorous part of me thrilled at the declaration, at the absolute certainty in his voice when he claimed me as his. That small, secret thrill frightened me more than his words did, because it meant some part of me wanted exactly what he was offering.

Was he sick? Was this some kind of high-level delusion brought on by the stress of his grandfather’s birthday? Had the pressure of his empire finally cracked something fundamental in him?

I searched his face desperately, looking for the flicker of a joke, the hint of his usual playful smirk, anything that would tell me this was just another one of his games. But his expression remained set in stone, unwavering and deadly serious, carved from granite and determination.

He meant every single word, and that realization sent panic flooding through my veins. My thoughts scattered like startled birds, unable to settle on any single, coherent response.

My stomach twisted into knots, tightening with each passing second of his unwavering stare. This was real. This was happening. This wasn’t some fever dream or elaborate prank.

"Are you... are you actually insane, Jaxx?" I whispered, my voice barely audible, trembling with a mixture of fear and something else I refused to name.

He nodded, his gaze locked on mine with unwavering intensity. "Yes, baby. Completely insane. The mere thought of being away from you for more than a few hours drives me mad. You’ve succeeded in binding me to you, princess. I can’t think straight anymore. You’ve compromised every defense I had."

A shiver ran through me that had nothing to do with the room’s cool air. My pulse quickened as I struggled to process his confession, to understand what it meant for both of us. "You left me at that party for an hour," I said, grasping for some solid ground to stand on, even if it was just an argument to anchor myself. "I was surrounded by sharks and people who despise me, and now you’re standing here saying this... this madness?"

Something flickered in his expression... was it regret? But it vanished as quickly as it appeared, replaced almost instantly by that familiar, maddening composure he wore like armor.

Jaxx smirked, though the gesture didn’t quite reach his eyes. His thumb traced the line of my jaw with a tenderness that felt almost dangerous in its gentleness. "Instead of scolding me, princess, why not put this pretty mouth to better use?" he murmured. "Shut up and kiss me."

And as if I were under a spell, as if he were pulling my strings with invisible wires, I tilted my head and kissed him. It wasn’t a choice; it was a surrender. Every rational thought I’d clung to dissolved the moment our lips met. I hated how easily I gave in to him, how my body betrayed every protest my mind tried to form, how completely I seemed to forget myself whenever his mouth found mine.

I felt him move, his muscles rippling beneath my touch as he lifted me and carried me across the room. He didn’t take me to the bed. Instead, he led me toward that massive, dark mahogany table, the one he’d threatened me with earlier. The wood felt solid and real beneath me as he laid me back against it, the cool, polished surface a sharp contrast to the fire of his skin against mine.

The shock of it against my spine only heightened every other sensation, sharpening the moment into something almost unbearably vivid.

He didn’t step away. He remained right there, positioned between my legs, his eyes dark and dilated as he studied me. My breath came in short, jagged gasps, my heart hammering so hard I was certain he could hear it. The vulnerability of my position should have frightened me, yet all I felt was anticipation coiling tighter in my belly, a need I couldn’t name pressing insistently beneath my skin.

He reached out, his fingers tracing the delicate lace of my panties with deliberate slowness, as if savoring every second. Then, maintaining eye contact, he slowly, deliberately sank to his knees before me. The sight of him there, powerful and commanding even in that position, sent a fresh wave of heat rushing through me.

My head fell back against the wood, my fingers gripping the table’s edge so hard my knuckles turned white. I could feel the heat radiating from him, the sheer intensity of his focus making me feel both exposed and worshipped. No one had ever looked at me the way he did... as if I were something precious and profane all at once, something to be savored rather than simply taken.

"Now," Jaxx rumbled, his voice carrying the satisfaction of a predator who had finally cornered his prey, he looked up at me one last time, a dark, possessive light burning in his eyes that told me everything was about to change. That my life would never be the same after this moment. That there would be no going back from whatever line we were about to cross. "I’m going to eat you properly... until I’ve had my fill."
