Ruined By The Wrong Brother
Chapter 47 - 0047: You’re Using My Words Against Me
Chapter 47: Chapter 0047: You’re Using My Words Against Me
Elena’s Point Of View
Graham stood up so abruptly that his chair scraped violently against the hardwood, the sound splitting the silence like a gunshot. His voice came out strained, raw, and booming with an authority he no longer possessed... an authority I could see him grasping for, desperately, like a drowning man clawing at driftwood.
"Enough! Elena, that is enough!"
"No," I interrupted, rising slowly to my feet. I leaned over the table so I could look him right in his bloodshot eyes, refusing to give him even an inch of the ground he so clearly wanted back. Every single drop of fear I used to carry was gone, replaced by a dark, volatile fire burning through my veins, something ancient and long-suppressed finally breaking free. Ten years of swallowed words rose in my throat all at once, and I let them come. "You don’t get to tell me what is enough anymore, Graham. And if you’re not okay with how things are going to be... then let’s get a divorce."
That stopped him dead cold.
The air in the room froze instantly. The color drained from Graham’s face so fast it was almost frightening, leaving him ashen and hollow-eyed, like a man who’d just watched his own future collapse in real time. His chest hitched mid-breath, his hands resting heavily against the polished wood as if his knees were about to buckle beneath him.
I watched him grasp for footing, some old instinct in me wanting to soften the blow, to reach out and steady him the way I always had before. I crushed that instinct without mercy.
"What?" His voice cracked, the firm, controlling edge completely shattering into something terrified and pathetic, something I had never once heard from him in ten years of marriage. "I’m not divorcing you, Elena. You’re my wife."
Beside him, Lillian’s eyes widened in sheer, unadulterated shock, her jaw dropping open, her carefully composed mask slipping for just a moment. The perfect, serene poise she’d worn like a second skin all morning cracked clean down the middle. "What?! Graham, you can’t be serious!"
I crossed my arms over my chest, tilting my head as I watched the frantic, unhinged panic flicker behind his dark eyes, savoring it in a way that surprised even me. There was no pleasure in it, not exactly... only a grim, quiet satisfaction, the kind that comes from finally setting down a weight you’ve carried for far too long. "Then make a choice, Graham. It’s either you accept this new reality, or we sign the papers and get a divorce. Choose one. Right here, right now."
His jaw clenched so tightly I could hear the joint click. His eyes bored into mine with a desperate, frantic intensity, searching my face, trying to figure out if I was bluffing or if the quiet, timid woman he had married ten years ago had truly died last night, buried somewhere beneath the wreckage of everything he’d put me through. I let him look. I wanted him to see there was nothing left to find.
"You’re using my words against me," he whispered, the realization hitting him like a physical blow to the stomach. He sounded like a man drowning, unable to comprehend the current pulling him under, and some small, distant part of me almost pitied him. Almost. That part had grown smaller every year of our marriage, and now it barely registered at all.
"Yes, I am," I said boldly, stepping back from my chair and taking a slow, deliberate step toward his end of the table, my heels clicking against the hardwood with a rhythm that felt almost ceremonial. "Because your little rules were never fair in the first place, were they?"
"You can’t just... Elena, this is different!" he stammered, his hands coming up in a rare, pathetic gesture of utter helplessness, a gesture so foreign on him that it almost looked absurd on a man who had spent a decade commanding every room he entered. "This isn’t who you are!"
"Oh, is it different?" I snapped, letting out a sharp, bitter laugh that rang through the quiet dining room like breaking glass. The sound startled even me, foreign and jagged, nothing like the soft laughter I used to offer him over breakfast in better years, back when I still believed the vows we’d made meant something to him too. "Explain it to me, Graham! Make me understand! If you can have a mistress... oh wait, my apologies, a girlfriend, considering you were the one who initiated this grand open marriage the moment you brought her into our home, why can’t I have a boyfriend?"
"Because you’re my wife!" he screamed, his face flushing a deep, dangerous shade of red as he slammed his palm flat against the mahogany table. The blow was so hard the silver cutlery jumped and coffee splashed violently over the rim of my cup, dark droplets bleeding across the white tablecloth like tiny wounds. "You pledged yourself to me at an altar! You belong to me!"
"And you’re my husband, Graham! My husband!" My voice cracked with ten years of buried rage, hot tears of fury stinging the corners of my eyes, though I swore to God I wouldn’t let a single one fall in front of him... not now, not after everything. "But you’ve been cheating on me for years with your so-called cousin! You used my inability to give you a child as a sick, twisted excuse to bring her into our home, sit her in my chair, put her in my bed, and humiliate me in front of your entire goddamn family!"
Lillian pushed back her chair with a sharp, ear-splitting screech, standing up, her delicate arms flailing in artificial distress, every movement calculated for maximum sympathy. "That’s enough! I am not staying here to be insulted by a hysterical, unhinged..."
"Oh, please sit your fake ass down," I snapped without even turning my head to look at her, my eyes locked on Graham like a sniper targeting a mark. "No one asked for your input, and nobody cares."
Graham swallowed hard, his throat working heavily as he stared at me. His shoulders slumped, the violent rage draining out of him, replaced by something weary, hollow, and sickeningly desperate, the look of a man who knew he’d already lost but hadn’t yet accepted it. For one fleeting second, I almost saw a ghost of the man I’d fallen in love with all those years ago, before I remembered exactly why that man no longer existed.
"Elena..." he breathed out, his hands trembling against the table edge. "Lillian is only here because... because she’s pregnant for me."
Those words didn’t just cut. They carved straight through my chest, slicing into my heart and ripping away the absolute last shred of whatever residual affection I had held for the man standing in front of me. For one terrible moment, the room tilted, and I had to remind myself to breathe, to stand, to remain the woman I had promised myself I would become.
My ears rang, a high, thin sound that drowned out everything else, and somewhere beneath the numbness, a small voice whispered that this was the end of something I could never rebuild, no matter how hard I tried.
The entire room fell into an agonizing, suffocating silence. The air felt thick, heavy, almost impossible to breathe, every second stretching unbearably long, as if time itself refused to move forward.
I stared at him... really looked at him, the man I had spent over ten years loving, the man I had built my whole world around, brick by fragile brick... and for the first time since this nightmare began, I didn’t feel pain. I didn’t feel heartbreak.
I felt completely, wonderfully numb. Cold. Empty. Free.
Lillian took a step closer to him, placing a manicured hand on his forearm, her voice dropping into a soft, sickeningly sweet tone meant to sound comforting, though it landed more like poison dressed as honey. "Let her go, Graham," she purred, shooting me a triumphant, pitying look. "Look at her. She’s clearly not in her right state of mind right now. She’s just spiraling because she knows she can’t give you what I can."
I turned my head slowly, looking at her hand on his arm, and then up at her smug, painted face, letting the silence stretch just long enough to make her squirm.
"Aww," I cooed softly, my voice dripping with pure, toxic sarcasm as a cold smile stretched across my lips. "You really have to try much harder than that to make me jealous, bitch."
Lillian’s face drained of color, her mouth popping open in total shock, the confidence she’d worn like armor cracking wide open.
Graham didn’t look at her. He didn’t touch her. His dark, bloodshot eyes remained glued to mine, filled with a terrifying mix of confusion, regret, rage, and a deep, creeping horror as he realized his ultimate trump card had failed to break me.
I took a slow, deliberate step closer to him, stopping right in front of his chair so he could feel the radiating, suffocating heat of my rage, close enough now to watch the pulse hammering wildly in his throat.
"You should be happy, Graham," I said, my voice eerily calm, quiet, and crystal clear. "You’re finally getting the heir you so desperately desired. Congratulations. Stick with it, enjoy your messy little family, and stop bothering me."
"Elena, please, just listen to me - "
"If you won’t give me a divorce," I continued, cutting straight through his voice like a razor, "then do not intrude in my affairs. Give me my space the exact same way I am giving you and your whore the space you need in this house."
Graham’s chest was heaving violently, his knuckles turning stark white as his hands clenched into desperate fists, his whole body a coiled contradiction of fury and fear. "And what if I refuse, Elena? What if I shut this whole thing down right now?"
I leaned in closer, my face inches from his, dropping my voice into a dangerous whisper. "If not... then divorce or no divorce, I will pack every single thing I own, walk out that front door, and go live full-time with my boyfriend."
Graham’s pupils dilated in absolute fury. "You wouldn’t dare," he growled out through gritted teeth, his breath hot against my skin, though his voice trembled with an unmistakable, desperate terror. "I swear to God, Elena, you wouldn’t dare pull a stunt like that."
"Try me," I whispered back, a lethal, mocking smirk curling the corner of my lips. "Try me, Graham, and then you’ll see what I’ll dare to do. You started this game. You broke the foundation of this marriage and brought another woman into our bed. So you don’t get to flinch, you don’t get to scream, and you sure as hell don’t get to give up now that the tables are turned on you."
He stood there completely frozen, his mouth slightly open, his chest rising and falling in rapid, shallow hitches, unable to utter a single word, unable even to meet the full weight of my gaze anymore. Something in his eyes finally broke... not the anger, but the certainty, the bone-deep assumption that I would always be his to command.
I turned slowly toward the side table, picked up my crystal glass of chilled orange juice, and turned back to face him. I raised the glass high into the air between us, letting the morning sunlight catch the polished rim, the whole scene absurdly theatrical against the wreckage we’d just made of the room.
"Cheers to our open marriage, hubby."
I took a slow, deliberate sip, letting him watch every swallow, then set the glass down on the table with a sharp clink that echoed through the silence like a verdict. I turned on my heel and began walking toward the grand archway of the dining room, my spine straight, my steps unhurried, as though I hadn’t just detonated the only life I’d known for a decade.
"Elena!" Graham’s voice thundered behind me, raw and panicked. "Elena, don’t you walk away from me!"
"Leave me alone, Graham!" I called back over my shoulder, my tone icy and final. "This is what you wanted, so enjoy it. You fuck another woman, while I fuck another man. I’m not asking for your consent anymore... I’m informing you."
