Rural Farming: My Buildings Can Be Upgraded
Chapter 222 Brute Force Creates Miracles
Chapter 222: Chapter 218: Brute Force Creates Miracles
The first contestant to take the stage was an amateur.
Evidently, this contestant had already thought things over before going up.
He understood that his skills were far inferior to the professional archers, so competing at the short-range targets would be a guaranteed loss.
This guy went for the 400-meter target with his first draw, but the arrow veered quite a bit off course.
"Our first contestant, Qian Xinxing, has a real strategy here. He wants to go for the big one and take the competition outright.
That’s why, as soon as he got up there, he went straight for the 400-meter target.
Oh! What a shame. His first arrow was too far off and missed the target completely.
Let’s see what happens with his second arrow. He seems to be making some adjustments..."
The contestants below watched from the base of the Arrow Tower as Qian Xinxing’s second arrow landed closer to the target, and they all started to contemplate their own strategies.
After finishing his ten shots, Qian Xinxing walked down from the Arrow Tower, looking rather dejected.
"Our contestant Qian Xinxing has finished all ten of his shots. As you could see, his arrows were getting progressively closer to the target.
If he’d had a few more shots, he might have even hit the target.
Let’s do a quick interview and hear contestant Qian Xinxing’s thoughts."
"Qian Xinxing, could you tell us your thoughts on this Arrow Tower competition?"
"Ten shots just isn’t enough. If I’d had another ten, I feel like I could have hit the 400-meter target."
"Qian Xinxing, why didn’t you take a few shots at the closer targets to rack up some points?
There aren’t many participants in this year’s Bow and Arrow competition, and there are ten prize-winning spots.
Even if you don’t get first place, you still have a good chance of winning something."
Qian Xinxing froze.
’That’s right, why was I trying so hard for first place? Tenth place would’ve been fine, too!’
"Why didn’t you say that earlier? I’m already done with all my shots!"
The host said a bit awkwardly, "It seems our contestant, Qian Xinxing, completely forgot that there are ten prize-winning spots.
For our upcoming contestants, make sure you think through your strategy and don’t make the same mistake as Qian Xinxing."
Qian Xinxing glared at the host. The man wasn’t even being subtle about it, just rubbing salt in the wound right in front of everybody.
"Alright, let’s watch the next contestant’s performance."
The second contestant had clearly taken the host’s words to heart and abandoned any thought of recklessly aiming for first place.
He started by shooting five arrows at the 100-meter target, scoring 180 points. Then he shot four arrows at the 150-meter target for another 160 points. He finished by attempting the 300-meter target, but scored 0 points.
"Our second contestant, Chang Yu, is quite strategic. After securing 340 points, he then attempted a high-scoring target..."
The subsequent contestants were all smarter. This year’s situation was unique—with only twenty participants, there was a one-in-two chance of winning. It was basically a giveaway from Lin Xian Village.
Next year’s competition would be incredibly fierce. If they didn’t seize this opportunity, the difficulty of winning a prize next year would be raised to hell mode.
One by one, they all secured some baseline points from the low-scoring targets before attempting the high-scoring ones to make a play for the championship.
However, when the sixth contestant took the stage, things changed again.
"It looks like our contestant, Wang Heng, wants to go for broke, starting right off with the 400-meter target.
Wang Heng’s shooting speed is incredible. After just a slight adjustment, he’s already loosed his second arrow.
You can tell he’s very strong. Look, he’s using an 80-pound bow and drawing it with ease.
WOW! A hit! He hit the 400-meter target! Let’s see what ring he hit?"
Seeing he’d hit the fourth ring, Wang Heng leaped up in excitement. A prize was in the bag.
After that, he didn’t bother with the low-scoring targets, putting all his remaining shots into the 400-meter target. In the end, however, only that one arrow found its mark.
He realized the environmental factors at 400 meters were too significant. The wind in the valley, in particular, was so fickle that the slightest gust could change an arrow’s trajectory.
Recalling how Boss Lin had hit the bullseye with every single arrow, he now truly appreciated just how powerful Boss Lin was.
"4000 points! I wonder if that will be today’s top score?
Wang Heng, can you tell us why you went for the 400-meter target right away?
Weren’t you worried about not winning a prize?"
"What are you talking about? I came here to win first place, which is why I aimed for the 400-meter target."
"All or nothing, huh?
Contestant Wang Heng certainly has a strong mindset. Do you have any words for the contestants coming up after you?"
"Brute force works miracles! Don’t overthink it. For the 400-meter target, just go all in!"
"Alright, our contestant Wang Heng has shared his secret with those who follow. Let’s have the next contestant make their way up the tower."
What happened next left the host a bit dumbfounded. Four consecutive contestants, after securing 600 points, all attempted the 400-meter target. They’d actually taken Wang Heng’s words to heart.
"We’re halfway through the event, and our contestant Wang Heng is still in first place. Let’s have the next contestant come up to the tower."
"HOLY SHIT! Apologies, I just swore. It’s not that I’m uncultured, I just couldn’t help myself.
Someone else has hit the 400-meter target! And just like Wang Heng, he went aggressively for the 400-meter target right from the start.
Let’s see the score... 6000! 6000 points! We have a new leader!"
"Contestant Chu Hang, you’re now in first place. Any words for us?"
"Wang Heng was right! You just have to go for it. Brute force works miracles!"
"Well, today’s contestants may be few, but they all seem to be quite fiery. Nobody wants to play it safe for a prize; they’re all aiming for first place.
I wonder what our next contestant will choose to do?"
The next contestant to take the stage was a professional archery athlete. His first shot at the 300-meter target missed, but his second shot hit the mark.
"I’m starting to suspect these contestants weren’t going all out during the qualifiers.
Hitting the 300-meter target on just the second arrow... Ah! And as I’m speaking, his third arrow has hit the target as well.
If the rest of the contestants are at this level, I get the feeling that those who played it safe earlier are all going to be knocked out of the running!"
You couldn’t blame the host. The guy up on the Arrow Tower had already landed three consecutive shots, bringing his score up to third place.
His next four shots missed, and his final two attempts at the 400-meter target also went wide.
The next few contestants to take the stage proved the host’s point. Every single one of them unleashed their full potential.
"We have three contestants remaining. But since Wang Heng’s turn, six more contestants have made it onto the leaderboard, with the lowest score among them being 1800 points.
It’s just as I said earlier—the first few contestants were far too conservative."
Down below, the contestants who had scored only six or seven hundred points had ugly expressions on their faces. They had never expected things to turn out this way.
It was as if they had all been influenced by Wang Heng. They all went for the high-scoring targets; no one was even bothering with the 100-meter and 150-meter targets anymore.
Even the amateurs were going straight for the 200-meter target as soon as they got up there.
Lin Feng hadn’t expected the latter half of the competition to be this exciting either.
He’d originally thought everyone would just farm points on the low-scoring targets to guarantee a place on the board. But after Wang Heng’s turn, the contestants’ strategies changed completely.
Hu Xia whispered, "It’s a shame there are so few contestants. If there were over a hundred people competing, it would surely be even more exciting than this."
"True. With more people, and with scores this high, the later contestants would have no choice but to aim for the high-scoring targets. The competition would be much more intense."
"This year’s finals will have one hundred and twenty contestants. That’s when we’ll see a truly spectacular competition.
Besides, we can’t just use this exact format. The competition model needs some refinement."
Lin Feng had no objections. He’d let Hu Xia handle it however she saw fit.
This year, things in Lin Xian Village were bound to change dramatically.
"It’s unbelievable! Truly unbelievable! If this last contestant also makes it onto the leaderboard, that means of the first ten competitors, only two will end up placing in the top ten!
Let’s see what our final contestant chooses to do!"
Bian Ling walked over to the 100-pound Bow and Arrow section and selected a bow.
"Our contestant Bian Ling certainly has his own approach! While everyone else has been using 80-pound bows, he’s chosen a 100-pound one.
But even seasoned archers generally use bows in the 60 to 80-pound range. A 100-pound bow, even a compound one, requires exceptional strength to draw."
This next contestant, Bian Ling, then gave a true demonstration of the phrase "brute force works miracles."
The higher a bow’s poundage, the faster its initial velocity and the longer its effective range, much like a firearm.
Of course, an average person truly wouldn’t be able to handle a bow with such a high draw weight.
Clearly, this contestant Bian Ling was no ordinary person. You could tell from the bulging muscles on his arms that he possessed immense strength.
When he drew the bowstring, the muscles rippling across his back drew even louder cheers from the audience.
"This guy must be a pro, and one of those expert outdoor archers, too."
"Look at his arms! They’re almost as thick as my thighs. If he punched me, I’d have to beg him to let me live."
"He’s definitely incredible, but still not on Boss Lin’s level. Watching Boss Lin shoot earlier... that was true, effortless grace."
After two test shots, Bian Ling finally started to get a feel for it.
Sensing the shift in the wind, he nocked another arrow and let it fly.
"Ooh, just missed! What a shame.
But it looks like our contestant, Bian Ling, has found his groove."
Bian Ling did not disappoint. His very next arrow struck the 400-meter target.
Then, without a moment’s hesitation, he drew another arrow and loosed it.
Someone in the crowd yelled, "Competition my ass! This guy’s a pro!"
"Huh? What do you mean, pro? Aren’t there national team athletes here too?"
"Just look, man. He’s a sniper."
The news spread like wildfire through the crowd of tourists. Soon, many had found the online account of the contestant named Bian Ling.
They discovered he was a retired special forces sniper. This wasn’t a competition; it was a total curb-stomp.
When it came to close-range shooting, he might not have been a match for the national team athletes.
But for this kind of outdoor, long-range archery, a guy like that could probably calculate the wind speed in his head.
Lin Feng was also surprised. He hadn’t expected the final contestant to be a retired sniper, one who apparently had an online presence.
"I absolutely did not expect our final contestant to be such a special participant. His skill is truly formidable.
Did everyone notice? He was clearly using his first two arrows as ranging shots. He only started shooting for real after that.
This just goes to show you that having some professional knowledge can be quite useful in a competition."
There was no longer any suspense in the competition. Once Bian Ling found his angle and power, while he didn’t hit the target with every single shot, he was landing at least two out of every three arrows.
Furthermore, his hands were incredibly steady, his strength and stamina were immense, and his entire shooting form was textbook-perfect, without a hint of wavering.
When the host announced the end of the competition and the award ceremony began, the spectating tourists started to grow envious.
They weren’t envious of the other prizes. What they truly coveted was the pass that granted unrestricted entry into Lin Xian Village.
With one of those, you wouldn’t need to wait in the online queue; you could enter Lin Xian Village whenever you wanted.
"Boss Lin, when are you going to offer permanent passes? I’ll pay for one!"
"Yeah, can Lin Xian Village offer an annual pass service? I’m willing to buy one!"
"It’s too hard to get into Lin Xian Village! I just checked, and the next available reservation is two years from now."
"..."
Hu Xia took the microphone and said, "Everyone, please be patient. Next year, Lin Xian Village will be opening up more entry slots.
Additionally, Wuyuan County will be developing the land outside Lin Xian Village. So even if you can’t get inside, you’ll still be able to enjoy the comfortable environment of the Lin Xian area."
Hearing this news, the tourists became instantly excited. Some of them immediately started planning how they could buy a house there.
Meanwhile, Lin Feng looked at Bian Ling and handed him the first-place prize: the Stone Dragon Carving.
"Don’t lose this. If you come to Lin Xian Village, you should keep this Stone Dragon Carving with you. It will benefit you."
"Understood, Boss Lin. I’ll keep it with me at all times."
Looking at the Stone Dragon in his hand, even though Bian Ling didn’t know anything about art, he could tell it was something special.
It was incredibly lifelike. Just holding it gave him a sense of peace, letting him know this object was truly special.
Before coming to Lin Xian Village for the competition, he had done his research and learned that the village possessed some very special things.
Clearly, the small Stone Dragon in his hand had to be one of those special products.
