Chapter 28: Chapter 27: Wild Boar Hunt

The wait stretched past three in the morning. Lin Feng had dozed off for a bit when a piercing alarm jolted him awake.

Lin Feng, who had been sleeping in his clothes, snatched the bow and quiver from his bedside and rushed out the main gate.

’Five hundred meters out, in the direction of the vineyard. They’re finally here!’

Lin Feng had thought tonight was a bust. At midnight, the wild boars had just been circling three kilometers away, refusing to come any closer.

WOOF WOOF WOOF, WOOF WOOF WOOF...

Mo Yu was barking frantically, having clearly detected the boars’ approach.

"Alright, stop barking. We’re going boar hunting!"

He broke into a sprint. It was a good thing his body had been enhanced before; otherwise, forget hunting boars, he wouldn’t even be able to run this far.

The signal tower provided real-time information on the boars’ location. Lin Feng didn’t engage them directly, instead heading for the Arrow Tower near the vineyard.

This was an Arrow Tower he had generated directly using the Village Construction Order’s self-build function. It was hidden in the woods where people wouldn’t normally go, so it wouldn’t be discovered.

Even if someone did find it, he could just say it was built along with the other arrow towers.

In fact, Lin Feng had already begun secretly planning to use the Village Construction Order’s functions to put up a few other structures.

The fence enclosing the ten-mu plot, for instance, was something he had built bit by bit with this function. Everyone else just assumed he’d been working on it himself at night.

He climbed the Arrow Tower and looked toward the food trap he’d set up nearby. The boars weren’t far from it, slowly ambling in its direction.

’The view from the Arrow Tower is much better.’

Lin Feng had installed an infrared night-vision device on this Arrow Tower, which increased night vision by 20%.

Combined with the infrared gear he was wearing, his view of the wilderness was crystal clear, allowing him to distinctly see the boars’ paths of movement.

Otherwise, encountering wild boars in the pitch-black mountain forest would be an extremely dangerous affair.

"They’re getting closer. Mo Yu, quiet down."

Lin Feng patted Mo Yu’s head. The little guy was staring warily in the direction of the approaching boars.

He laid out his arrows one by one in front of him. Five wild boars. Killing all of them would be difficult and a true test of his skill.

GRUNT...

"Here they come!"

Lin Feng nocked an arrow and drew his bow, the string forming a perfect arc. He fixed his gaze on the boars in the distance as they ate, waiting for them to let down their guard.

SWISH! Before the first arrow even reached its target, the second was already in the air. In just six or seven seconds, he had loosed all nine arrows.

He didn’t stop, because he could clearly see that the boars hit by his arrows weren’t dead.

He drew his bow again, this time using Throwing. Watching the black-and-white figures, he sent an arrow flying toward a pre-aimed spot.

In just over twenty seconds, Lin Feng fired twenty-five arrows. Some hit their mark, while others missed.

Standing on the Arrow Tower, he stared at the information from the signal tower, a little disappointed. The Bow and Arrow’s draw weight was too low, and its power was lacking.

The two large boars had each taken three or four arrows but still managed to drag their injured bodies a long way.

Although they eventually died, if a hunter encountered this situation in the mountains, it would be extremely dangerous. An injured wild boar is the most terrifying kind.

’Two of the small ones got away.’

He wasn’t a Divine Archer, after all. Though he had practiced the Skills, he still wasn’t proficient enough in using them.

Otherwise, with the Throwing skill alone, not a single one of these boars would have survived.

Lin Feng didn’t go check on the boars that had collapsed to the ground, unsure if they were dead or not. He decided to deal with them in the morning.

...

The next morning, after Lin Dazhuang arrived with the workers, Lin Feng told them what had happened.

Lin Dazhuang asked in surprise, "You’re saying you hunted wild boars last night? With a Bow and Arrow?!"

"That’s right, Uncle Dazhuang. The boar carcasses are still in the woods. I was waiting for you guys to get here to help me haul them out."

The other workers looked at Lin Feng, all of them astonished. Hunting wild boars with a Bow and Arrow was something only old-timers from decades ago could do.

From the looks of him, Lin Feng didn’t seem like the type who could hunt wild boars with a Bow and Arrow.

Seeing their skeptical gazes, Lin Feng said, "The boars are right there in the woods. Let’s all go have a look, and then you’ll know."

Dubious but curious, the group followed Lin Feng into the woods and soon saw the first boar lying on the forest floor.

"It’s just a small one, only twenty or thirty pounds, but it really was killed with an arrow!"

When these men saw the arrow in the small boar’s body, the way they looked at Lin Feng changed.

At their age, they had lived through that "special era" and knew how difficult it was to hunt at night—let alone with a Bow and Arrow.

When the three boars—two large and one small—were carried out of the woods, the men were completely won over.

"You’re incredible, Xiaolin!" Lin Dazhuang gave him a thumbs-up. "That was amazing shooting with a Bow and Arrow."

"So skilled! First a direct shot that didn’t kill, then a kill shot with Throwing. Xiaofeng, how did you practice your Bow and Arrow technique?"

Everyone looked at the arrows in the boars’ backs, imagined the scene, and felt a chill at how frighteningly skilled Lin Feng was with a Bow and Arrow.

"I just practiced a bit here and there. It was mostly luck."

Everyone looked at the two large boars—one with four arrows sticking out of it, the other with three—and thought, ’Yeah right, you’re pulling our leg.’

"How should we handle them?"

"I’ll call Ma Dehua to come deal with them. It’s not like we can eat this stuff on the sly."

Lin Feng called Uncle Ma and asked him to come take the boars away for safe disposal, but the man didn’t believe him at first.

He only believed it after Lin Feng sent him some photos, and even then, he found it incredible.

When Lin Dongyue arrived with his family and saw the wild boars at the gate, he was shocked to hear his son had killed them with a Bow and Arrow the previous night. That shock was quickly followed by a wave of fear.

There’s a reason these things are ranked as more of a threat than tigers or bears: they injure more people. They’re notoriously reckless.

Lin Feng’s mom grabbed him by the ear. "Who told you to go hunting wild boars in the middle of the night? Those things are dangerous! What would you have done if something happened?"

Seeing his little sister snickering on the side, he begged for mercy, "Mom, I won’t do it again! I promise! Everyone’s watching... please, spare me some dignity."

"No way. From now on, you’re sleeping at home. It’s too dangerous here with wild boars around."

"Mom, it’s fine. I’ll stay inside the house. The boars can’t get in."

Liu Chunyan looked at the houses, still worried. Wild boars were incredibly strong.

Lin Dongyue said, "If this happens again, you are not to leave the house. I don’t care how good you are with a Bow and Arrow. If one of those things even grazes you, you’ll be all alone with no chance to even call for help."

"Dad, I know."

’They don’t know my situation, so of course they’re worried about me. Who would’ve guessed I have a map-hack?’

"It’s a shame we can’t eat them now. That’s a lot of meat."

"Dad, I heard wild boar meat doesn’t taste good, that it’s really gamey."

"It’s not great, but back in the day, we didn’t have any meat to eat, so who cared? Besides, if you find an old master cook and braise it with strong spices, it’s actually not bad. That small one is the best of the bunch."

"Dad, forget it. The country says we can’t eat it, so we won’t. Uncle Ma will be here with his people to haul it away soon."

Uncle Ma’s truck hadn’t arrived yet, but the two bosses, Zhang Yong and Qin Zhifeng, showed up with their own people. It seemed they were very enthusiastic about the grapes.

"Boss Lin, this is Professor Zhou Yongqiang. He’s an expert in grape cultivation and research. We brought him here to see if he can help you successfully transplant the vines."

"Professor Zhou, hello. I’ll take you to the vineyard in a little while to have a look."

Zhou Yongqiang said softly, "Hello, hello. I’d also like to see what these ’untransplantable’ grapes look like."

Having been invited here, Zhou Yongqiang didn’t believe a word from an amateur like Lin Feng. Grapes that can’t be transplanted? That could only mean his method was wrong.

Lin Feng didn’t care about the man’s attitude. If he could actually overcome the power of the Village Construction Order, Lin Feng would worship him like a god.
