Sacrificed To The Triplet Alpha Kings
Chapter 440: Can It Be Broken?
The power surge faded. The dual magic retreating back into her core.
Veyra looked at Lilith for a long moment. Then she smiled.....genuine respect in her expression.
"Well said," Veyra acknowledged. "But Lilith, power and conviction aren’t enough when you’re facing coordinated supernatural factions. You’re strong. Potentially stronger than any of us. But you’re untrained. Unprepared. And surrounded by people who are keeping secrets from you."
She looked at Victoria. At Elena. At the Alphas standing protectively near Lilith.
"When the truth comes out," Veyra said quietly, "and it will come out....make sure you’re angry at the right people. The ones who lied to you. Not the ones who tried to warn you."
Then she turned and walked away.
The other two witches followed.
Within moments, they had disappeared into the tree line beyond the estate borders.

Silence fell over the group standing at the entrance.
Callum and the warriors looked uncertain. Waiting for orders from their Alphas.
"Secure the perimeter," Sebastian said. "Double patrols. I want to know immediately if anyone else approaches the border."
"Yes, Alpha," Callum said. He and the warriors dispersed quickly.
Leaving just Lilith, Sebastian, Lucian, Victoria, and Elena standing in the cold dawn light.
Victoria looked like she was about to be sick.
Elena’s expression was carefully controlled but Lilith could see fear underneath.
And Lilith....
Lilith felt like the ground was crumbling beneath her feet.
"How did they know about the covenant?" Victoria whispered. "I never told anyone except Elena. And Thalia wouldn’t...." She stopped. Her face went pale. "Unless Thalia wanted them to know. Unless she’s been spreading information deliberately. Turning the supernatural community against Lilith before she even arrives."
Elena’s expression confirmed it. "That’s exactly what she’s doing. She’s isolating Lilith. Making sure that when she finally comes to invoke the debt, Lilith will have no allies except the ones she approves of. It’s strategic. Brilliant in a horrifying way."
"What covenant?" Lilith’s voice cut through their conversation like a blade. "What debt?"
She turned to face Victoria directly.
"You said you went to the Underworld to perform the resurrection. You said Nicholas had to sacrifice himself. You said Thalia provided the death magic. But you never said anything about a covenant. About a binding debt. About me owing Thalia payment for my own resurrection."
"Lilith...." Victoria started.
"What. Debt?" Lilith demanded.
Victoria’s eyes filled with tears. "I didn’t know how to tell you. I didn’t want you to...."
"WHAT DEBT?!" Lilith shouted.
The power surged again. Not directed. Just radiating from her in waves. The ground beneath their feet trembled. Plants sprouted through cracks in the stone pathway. Nearby wood aged and cracked.
"The debt is you," Victoria said, her voice breaking. "Thalia’s price for helping with the resurrection. She doesn’t want me. My magic is corrupted, useless to her. She wants you. Your power. The Veil’s essence you carry. She has a binding covenant that gives her first claim on whatever you’ve become. And when she decides you’re ready, when she thinks you’re powerful enough to be useful, she’ll come to collect. And the binding magic will compel you to comply with whatever she demands."
The words hung in the air like a death sentence.
Lilith stared at Victoria. At her aunt who had saved her life and in doing so had bound her to something that might be worse than death.
"You knew," Lilith said. Her voice was eerily calm. "You knew when you made the deal. You knew what it would cost. And you did it anyway."
"Yes," Victoria whispered. "I knew. And I would do it again. Because Lilith....you were dead. And I couldn’t....I couldn’t let you go. So I made the deal. I bound you to Thalia. And I’ve been trying to find a way to break the covenant ever since."
"Can it be broken?" Lilith asked.
Victoria looked at Elena.
Elena met Lilith’s gaze directly. "Yes. But not easily. The binding magic is powerful. Ancient. To break it, you would need to be more powerful than the entity the covenant was sealed with. You would need to...."
"Become strong enough to tell Thalia no," Lilith finished. "That’s what you and Victoria have been planning. Training me. Making me powerful enough to break the covenant when Thalia comes."
"Yes," Elena confirmed.
Lilith felt something cold and hard settle in her chest.
"How long do we have?" Lilith asked. "Before Thalia arrives to collect?"
"We don’t know," Victoria said. "She told me she would wait until you were ready. Until you were powerful enough to be useful to her. That could be weeks. Months. We have time to...."
"To turn me into a weapon strong enough to fight my own resurrection debt," Lilith interrupted.
"To save you," Victoria corrected desperately. "Lilith, please understand....I did this to save you. And yes, it created problems. Yes, you’re in danger. But you’re alive. And we’re going to make sure you stay that way."
Lilith looked at her aunt. At the woman who had sacrificed everything to bring her back. Who was dying from magical corruption. Who had kept this devastating secret to protect her.
And Lilith didn’t know how to feel.
Gratitude and betrayal tangled together. Love and anger mixed so thoroughly she couldn’t separate them.
"I need to think," Lilith said. "I need....everyone just leave me alone for a while."
"Lilith....." Sebastian started.
"Please," Lilith said. "Just....give me space. I can’t process this with all of you standing here watching me."
She turned and walked back into the estate.
Behind her, she heard Sebastian start to follow.
"Let her go," Elena said quietly. "She needs time. And we need to plan. Because those witches were right about one thing....the threats are coming. Faster than we expected. And we need to be ready."
***
Lilith didn’t hear the rest of the conversation.
She just kept walking. Through corridors. Up stairs. To her room.
Where she closed the door and sank to the floor with her back against it.
And tried to understand how her life had become this.
How resurrection had come with a price she never agreed to pay.
How the supernatural world was mobilizing against her.
How Thalia was coming....eventually, inevitably, to collect a debt Lilith didn’t even know she owed.
And how the people she trusted most had kept it all secret until witches showed up at her gates demanding answers.
Lilith pressed her hands to her face and tried to breathe through the panic.
Nicholas, she thought desperately. If you’re out there somewhere.....if some part of you survived through the bonds, I need you. I need your calm. Your certainty. Your ability to see through impossible situations and find solutions.
Because I don’t know how to do this alone.
And in the silence of her room....
In the empty space where his bond used to be....
Lilith felt the faintest echo of warmth.
Like someone had heard her. Like someone was trying to respond.
"You’re not alone."
The thought came from nowhere and everywhere. Not spoken. Just....felt.
And Lilith didn’t know if it was real or imagined or some desperate creation of her grief-stricken mind.
But she held onto it anyway.
Because right now, it was all she had.
