Chapter 2193 - 2191: Overpowering Slaughter of the Insect Matriarch
At first, it was just a faint light, but in the blink of an eye, the light became glaringly dazzling, as if something inside the Blood Cloud Battle Planet was about to hatch.
After a moment of hesitation, more fragmented lights burst forth from all parts of the battle planet. From a distance, the battle planet looked like a spherical object full of holes, with a bright light source inside.
Silently, the battle planet shattered, turning into large and small pieces of floating land, drifting in all directions.
Vaguely, a figure rushed out from inside the battle planet.
In the vast, thick Blood Sea, Fei Lian's face changed dramatically. He hurriedly retracted the Blood Sea, invoked the Blood Escape Technique, and fled into the depths of the stellar space without looking back.
Just now, he sensed that the Insect Matriarch was dead!
Earlier, when the Giant Race Dao Fusion arrived at the battlefield, replacing Zi Ying, this woman charged into the Blood Cloud Battle Planet. Fei Lian certainly knew her intent, but he wasn't worried at all.
Although the Insect Matriarch couldn't leave the insect hive and didn't have a strong physical combat capability, it was extremely formidable in soul battles.
The insect hive was a fortress the Insect Matriarch had cultivated for countless years. The entire insect hive could almost be regarded as its Dao soldier, except this Dao soldier was not quite like ordinary Dao soldiers. It not only could nurture the Insect Race but also provide some strong support for the Insect Matriarch in soul battles.
In simple terms, as long as it was in its insect hive, the Insect Matriarch could perform extraordinarily in soul battles. This was its geographic advantage!
Zi Ying was indeed formidable, but not to the extent of being able to kill the Insect Matriarch. By charging into the insect hive so recklessly, Fei Lian even thought she might end up in a disastrous situation.
But the result astonished him; in just a one-hour soul battle, the Insect Matriarch was actually killed, and the entire Blood Cloud Battle Planet shattered along with it.
How did Zi Ying do it? Fei Lian couldn't fathom it at all.
He only knew that with the Insect Matriarch dead, he could not handle it alone. If he did not escape, he would surely be besieged by the two Dao Fusions, and even he himself would be in danger.
As for those cultivators from both races still bravely fighting... Fei Lian could no longer bother with them.
When Zi Ying returned from killing on the Blood Cloud Battle Planet, she immediately saw the tall figure standing there. This was the Dao Fusion from the Giant Race, the governor of Giant Ruler Battle Planet, whose name was Giant Ruler.
He looked very disheveled, seemingly having suffered a lot in the previous battle with Fei Lian. Indeed, his strength was somewhat inferior to both Fei Lian and Zi Ying. Battling in the Blood Sea with Fei Lian, he surely was not much of a match.
If Zi Ying hadn't resolved the Insect Matriarch timely and come back to support him, he might have been dealt with by Fei Lian.
"Fellow Daoist, the Insect Matriarch…" Giant Ruler asked in a tone of doubt and uncertainty.
Though the Blood Cloud Battle Planet was destroyed, and it was certain that the Insect Matriarch wouldn't have a good outcome, he still wanted to hear a definite answer from Zi Ying.
"Dead!" Zi Ying said concisely and immediately flashed forward: "Chase!"
Giant Ruler was taken aback, knowing that Zi Ying seemed determined to annihilate completely. Chasing Fei Lian, who had employed the Blood Escape Technique, seemed hopeless now.
Moreover, after killing an Insect Matriarch, Zi Ying showed no signs of being injured, which Giant Ruler found somewhat unbelievable.
Having no time to ask for details, Giant Ruler could only carry his immense Dao soldier, closely following behind Zi Ying.
A blood-used escape technique by a Dao Fusion of the Blood Race indeed couldn't be caught. In no time, both of them couldn't even see Fei Lian's shadow...
Zi Ying's posture while pursuing didn't change a bit, looking as if she was resolved to annihilate completely.
Only after a long while did she slowly come to a stop.
"Fei Lian is inherently suspicious. If we didn't pursue like this, he surely wouldn't run far. Only this way could truly drive him away completely."
Standing beside Zi Ying, Giant Ruler was stunned, not understanding why Zi Ying suddenly said this. But when he turned his head to look at Zi Ying, he suddenly understood everything.
Because at this moment, Zi Ying's body was uncontrollably trembling, her face pale as a sheet of white paper, and blood was flowing from her seven orifices.
Zi Ying was injured, and seriously injured at that!
Just now, she was merely pretending to be unscathed to intimidate Fei Lian.
Thinking about it, it made sense; diving into the insect hive to kill the Insect Matriarch was an extraordinary feat that few Dao Fusions across the entire Banlan could accomplish. Such a remarkable achievement certainly lifted the spirits and could easily secure victory, but how could it come without any cost?
"Fellow Daoist Giant Ruler, I'll have to trouble you to protect me next."
After speaking, Zi Ying sat down cross-legged right away.
On the other side, almost at the same time the Blood Cloud Battle Planet shattered, and Zi Ying emerged, Lu Ye realized the opportunity and immediately rallied with a shout: "Crane Wings Camp, follow me into battle!"
Of the enemy's two Dao Fusions, the Insect Matriarch was dead, and Fei Lian was likely fleeing. On the entire battlefield, only the defeated remnants of the Insect and Blood Races were left, making this undoubtedly the perfect opportunity to strike while the iron is hot on a drowning dog.
After some reorganization, although the Crane Wings Camp hadn't fully recovered, it was still adequate for another round of combat.
"Roar!" a group of people roared in unison, charging forth in Lu Ye's wake.
On the battlefield, the enemy's front line already full of gaps, and without the Insect Matriarch's coordination, the cultivators from the Insect and Blood Races were like headless flies, clueless as to what they should do to effectively fend off the attacking foes, making the situation even more chaotic.
This was the downside of the Insect Matriarch.
Indeed, while it was alive, it could easily coordinate the entire army's movements across the war zone through countless eyes, making the most reasonable arrangements at the most opportune moments. But with its death as the command center, it would bring immeasurable adverse effects to its side.
Amidst this chaos, the Divine Crane soared again, diving into the battlefield.
Numerous cultivators received instructions from the steward, killing enemies while shouting, "The Insect Matriarch is dead, Fei Lian has fled!"
Initially, the cries were scattered, but soon the entire battlefield echoed with these shouts.
The already shaky morale of the Insect and Blood Races quickly crumbled under these cries and the fierce assault from the human battle alliance and the Giant Race.
Deserters began to appear.
Whether Insect or Blood Race, both had a yearning for survival and fear of death. In such a situation, not fleeing meant certain death.
Like a river bursting its banks, the rout was an unstoppable avalanche.
It was again time for pursuit to expand the victory. Both the human alliance and the Giant Race unleashed their full strength without reservation.
However, at the steward's prior instructions, the pursuit was halted after more than two hours.
It's because reinforcements for the Insect and Blood Races were sure to be on their way. No one knew their numbers or strength, so naturally, it was best to avoid their edge and retreat early.
The great battle had concluded.
This engagement inflicted even heavier casualties on the Insect and Blood Races compared to their last attack on the Blue Water, with even one Dao Fusion dying and the entire battle planet destroyed.
These results were significant. The surviving cultivators all had great gains.
Zi Ying and Giant Ruler returned together.
Lu Ye keenly noticed that although Zi Ying appeared normal, she exuded a sense of exhaustion, and even her normally spirited eyes seemed dimmed.
Under the leadership of the two Dao Fusions, they each gathered their troops and began the return journey.
When they finally returned to Blue Water, three days had passed. This time, Zi Ying didn't use the short-stay palace, so the journey took longer.
In the valley where the Crane Wings Camp was stationed, everyone gathered quickly upon their return.
They then took out the Dao Bones they had collected on the battlefield, and soon a pile of Dao Bones grew before them.
No one had ever seen so many Dao Bones at once. The surviving Crane Wings Camp cultivators stared in disbelief.
This battle, the Crane Wings Camp killed countless enemies. If they could retrieve all the Dao Bones from the slain, the quantity would be several times more.
But on the battlefield, sometimes the situation was urgent, and retrieving bones wasn't practical, so they had to forgo it.
Even so, obtaining so many Dao Bones at once was enough to excite people.
Moments later, as the last cultivator placed their collected Dao Bones into the pile, everyone's gaze turned to Lu Ye.
Lu Ye smiled, naturally knowing it was time for the distribution of spoils.
But before he could speak, Wang Xun stepped forward, "Commander, hold on."
Lu Ye looked towards him.
Wang Xun stepped forward, holding a storage ring. With a wave of his hand, about half of the pile of bones disappeared.
He then handed it to Lu Ye with both hands, "Commander, the brothers discussed it. Without you leading us into battle, we couldn't have these gains. So, half of it should be yours, and the rest will be divided among the brothers. What do you think, Commander?"
Lu Ye lifted his gaze to see a pair of expectant and sincere eyes.
Yang Mingfang spoke up, "Commander, we've fought on the battlefield for so many years, and never have we fought so satisfyingly. Half the Dao Bones is a token of the brothers' esteem; please don't refuse."
"Yes, Commander, we're counting on you to continue leading us to victories everywhere."
With the noisy chatter, Lu Ye took the storage ring and nodded, "If that's the case, then I'll accept it. As for the rest..."
To him, the Dao Bones were naturally the more, the merrier, and as Yang Mingfang and the others said, if he hadn't helped form the array for the Crane Wings Camp, they wouldn't have such great gains or so few casualties. Even if he took half, the rest, once distributed, would still give everyone more benefits than other cultivators.
Moreover, maintaining the As-Close-As-Siblings Spirit Runes greatly consumed his Dao force. Now, he only had a few hundred left, and these Dao Bones could make up for his losses.
Wang Xun patted his chest, "Don't worry, Commander. The brothers will divide it properly, not letting anyone feel slighted."
"Then I'll leave it to you," Lu Ye nodded.
Wang Xun led the distribution of the Dao Bones, and everyone was beaming with joy, while Lu Ye leapt back to his previous residence.
Kang Xing and his two companions returned. They were lucky; though all were injured in the battle, their lives weren't threatened. Seeing Lu Ye, they gathered around, praising his and the Crane Wings Camp's unparalleled bravery.
The Crane Wings Camp's astounding performance on the battlefield was witnessed by almost every cultivator. Kang Xing and his companions saw it firsthand and admitted that their survival was largely thanks to one of the camp's charges. Even Jyang Yuning's eyes had a subtle glow as she gazed at him.
