Sage of Humanity
Chapter 2209 - 2207: The Death of Du Feng
The Fengtai and Fengji strongholds are not too far apart, less than a day's journey, which is why Fengji sought assistance from Fengtai. Being sufficiently close, support is possible.
When Du Feng led numerous cultivators hastily toward the Fengji stronghold, they saw from afar that the battlefield was ablaze with activity.
The scale of this battlefield was undoubtedly much larger than that of the Fengtai battle that day, and the number of cultivators on both sides was significantly higher. Countless cultivators from both sides exerted their Dao force on the battlefield, colliding fiercely.
But overall, from the current situation, they were clearly at a disadvantage.
It wasn't about numbers or strength; it was truly because, on such a battlefield, the enemy had an Insect Matriarch directing them, giving them a clearer and more timely grasp of the battle's progress.
Although there was someone directing on their side as well, they ultimately couldn't be as precise as the Insect Matriarch.
The cultivators who followed Du Feng to provide support saw this scene and were all filled with fighting spirit, just waiting for Du Feng to give the order to charge forward.
Not far from Du Feng, Lu Ye's gaze was not on the massive main battlefield, but rather focused on another direction.
In that direction, a Blood Sea was churning, with sounds of fierce combat emanating from within. Even from a distance, one could feel the strength of the two formidable opponents clashing inside.
It was the battlefield where those who had entered the Path were fighting; Li Qi from Fengji was facing a Blood Race member. With the Blood Sea obscuring them, the details of their clash were unclear.
Du Feng's eyes darted around, continuously observing various parts of the battlefield. After quite a while, he finally waved his hand and said, "Gentlemen, follow me to slay the enemy!"
It wasn't without reason that he was so cautious. Only days ago, he had barely escaped from the Ghost Gate and was worried that there might be hidden powerhouses on the enemy's side, ready to ambush him as soon as he showed himself. His observations were merely to ensure that there were no hidden forces from the enemy.
Now he finally put his mind at ease!
With a command, he charged forward, followed closely by numerous Fengtai stronghold cultivators.
Lu Ye also led a hundred-men unit of the Crane Wings Camp forward, inching closer to the battlefield until they reached a critical point, at which he gave a low shout, "Form the array!"
At the instant the order was given, numerous energies intertwined around their bodies, and in a flash, a Crane Wings Array was formed, crashing into the burning-hot battlefield ahead.
Havoc ensued, and at the moment of contact with the Crane Wings Array, the enemy cultivators collapsed like wheat in the wind. As the Divine Crane moved past, only their own side's cultivators stood in shock and awe.
On the other side, Du Feng was also going on a rampage.
On such a battlefield, without someone to restrain him, he was practically invincible. Though alone, as someone who had entered the Path, he was in no way slower at killing the enemy compared to the Crane Wings Camp.
He had deliberately chosen a direction different from the Crane Wings Camp's, and the combination of him and the Divine Crane were like two unstoppable arrows, carving out two straight paths through the chaotic battlefield, clarifying an otherwise entangled situation.
More cultivators from the Fengtai stronghold joined in the support.
The previously disadvantageous situation quickly stabilized and began to suppress the enemy.
The precise direction of the Insect Matriarch no longer had much effect in this scenario, at best delaying their defeat, but the cultivators of the Insect and Blood Races showed no sign of retreating, especially the Insect Race members, who would often drag someone down with them even in death.
Charge the array, slay the enemy!
Without an Enter the Path battlefield, it's perfect for the Crane Wings Camp. If they weren't required to collect Dao Bones while killing the enemy, their efficiency in combat could at least double.
Under Lu Ye's guidance, the entire Crane Wings Camp's performance was extraordinary. With a hundred who had entered the Path, their impact on the battlefield was no less significant than that of Du Feng, who had entered the Path.
After the Fengtai stronghold cultivators came to reinforce them, it took less than two hours before the human side gained a significant advantage. If there were no surprises, in just two more hours, the enemy would face an overwhelming defeat, leading to an exhilarating pursuit.
Just then, an angry shout suddenly rang out. Although not loud, it was clearly heard by everyone on the battlefield.
In the heat of life-and-death combat, few paid attention to the sound.
But Du Feng, in the midst of slaying enemies, had brightened eyes!
He had always kept a part of his Mental Consciousness focused on the battle between the two who had entered the Path, for although weaker than Li Qi, he was still a governor.
When he first arrived, he received an audio transmission from Li Qi, asking for his help; only those who had entered the Path could intervene in those battles!
But how could he dare?
Li Qi was asking for his support, which undoubtedly implied that the Blood Race member he was fighting was even stronger than him.
However, since Li Qi had spoken, he couldn't pretend he hadn't heard, so he excused himself by stating he would first stabilize the main battlefield's situation, ensuring that if Li Qi complained afterward, he had an excuse.
Now, with his and the Crane Wings Camp's massacres, along with the support of additional Fengtai stronghold cultivators, the main battlefield had already stabilized, and they were clearly in command.
This was the time he should be assisting Li Qi because not doing so now would be inappropriate. Just as he hesitated, a change occurred.
With the rise of that angry shout, the Blood Sea in the distance violently churned, and for an instant, seemed on the brink of collapse!
Moreover, Du Feng detected suppressed pain in that voice!
That Blood Race member... was wounded!
And significantly so, otherwise, it wouldn't have disturbed the Blood Sea's calm.
Li Qi was that powerful? Du Feng was stunned; he had just been asking for help, so how did he suddenly have an outburst of power?
No time to overthink, Du Feng immediately called out loudly, "Fellow Daoist Li Qi, I'm coming to help you!"
This was undoubtedly the best timing.
He even shouted loudly on purpose, so others could hear.
Once he finished speaking, he flashed toward the turbulent Blood Sea and boldly threw himself into it. He knew his strength was far less than the two battling within the Blood Sea, but with Li Qi taking the lead in the attack, and the opponent being seriously injured, he only needed to assist from the side. There really wasn't much danger.
With Du Feng's joining, the disturbance in the Blood Sea became even more intense.
The Blood Race seemed quite pressured, and the Blood Sea began to move rapidly, showing signs of fleeing.
The direction of the Blood Sea's escape was precisely where the Crane Wings Camp was charging.
On the chaotic battlefield, even Lu Ye didn't notice this situation until a powerful Life Force suddenly extinguished, making him suddenly alert.
Though the battlefield was chaotic, with mixed auras and rampant Dao force, the Life Force of those at the Dao Fusion level was like a beacon in the night, extremely conspicuous, and even the Blood Sea couldn't conceal it.
The extinguished Life Force was at the Dao Fusion level!
And it belonged to Du Feng!
Lu Ye jerked his head around, seeing the massive Blood Sea rolling toward the Crane Wings Camp, his heart shuddered, having no idea what had happened.
The only thing he could confirm was that Du Feng was dead!
Dead within this Blood Sea.
He had clearly just gone to support Li Qi, so how could he be dead now?
And Li Qi?
Within the Blood Sea, there were still two powerful auras, obviously belonging to those at the Dao Fusion level, which meant Li Qi was still alive. Yet the assisting Du Feng was dead.
Lu Ye had no good feelings toward Du Feng; before, he only helped him to avoid offending a Dao Fusion cultivator, especially one from a noble family, though the Du family wasn't one of the Four Preeminent Noble Families, it still had considerable foundation.
But he was ultimately part of the human race, yet died here today.
There was no time to think much, and Lu Ye immediately prepared to lead the Crane Wings Camp in a retreat.
However, the Blood Sea seemed to have set its sights on the Crane Wings Camp, relentlessly pursuing, quickly closing the distance due to their vast difference in strength.
Lu Ye instinctively felt something was off.
Since Li Qi was still alive, there was no reason for this Blood Race Dao Fusion to act so recklessly; what was he doing? Even if he wasn't an opponent, he could at least restrain the enemy. After all, they were just fiercely fighting moments ago.
In just a few breaths, the Crane Wings Camp changed directions several times but couldn't shake off the Blood Sea's pursuit. Lu Ye even sensed a powerful Mental Consciousness locking onto him.
It's coming for him! Lu Ye's scalp tingled as he vaguely realized something, his face becoming extremely serious.
"Wang Xun!" he shouted fiercely.
"Present!" Wang Xun responded quickly.
"Flee! Lead the brothers as far away as possible!"
After speaking, Lu Ye immediately dispelled the As-Close-As-Siblings Dao Runes, causing the array to collapse. He then darted off to the side.
The cultivators in the Crane Wings Camp were completely caught off guard as all connections with Lu Ye were severed, and they saw the Blood Sea that was pursuing them suddenly shift direction to chase after Lu Ye at high speed.
The cultivators stood frozen on the spot.
"Brother Wang, what happened?" someone asked, perplexed.
Wang Xun stood there, his face changing colors, suddenly shivered, and called out, "Go!"
"Brother Wang, leaving now would be desertion!" someone retorted fiercely. "And the commander is still being pursued!"
Wang Xun's expression was solemn as he mechanically turned to the speaker. "The commander said, Li Qi is a Blood Race dark agent! He's already been targeted."
Just earlier, while speaking to Wang Xun, Lu Ye had conveyed his own suspicions via audio transmission, which was what shocked Wang Xun.
"What?"
"Impossible, could Governor Li Qi really be a dark agent?"
It wasn't a secret that there were Blood Race dark agents among the human race; such incidents had been exposed before, and not just once. Because the Blood Race had means to convert Blood Slaves, however, there was no way for the human race to completely prevent such things, as Blood Race dark agents were too well hidden. Unless they exposed themselves, the human race couldn't determine who was a Blood Slave of the Blood Race.
Yet, a Dao Fusion level dark agent was quite rare, especially since Li Qi was a 6th Order Dao Fusion!
Though hard to believe, the people on the scene weren't fools; the strange movements of the Blood Sea indeed aroused suspicion. Li Qi was definitely within, and still alive, yet the Blood Sea was evidently unrestrained.
"This is bad!" someone paled, if Li Qi truly was a dark agent, who knows how many would die in this battle.
There was no time for further discussion. When the Crane Wings Array collapsed, everyone was still amidst enemy lines. Though invincible just moments ago, now, with the array disbanded, enemies quickly swarmed in from all sides.
"Follow me!" Wang Xun, gritting his teeth, shouted sternly, gathering everyone and charging in one direction.
If the commander's suspicion was accurate, then to survive today, they had to bloody a path out quickly!
