Sapphyra [Adult Superhero Progression]
Chapter 159 (Final Chapter)
Six months after I revived my mother and sister, things changed…for the better. Sorta.
My dorm in Beacon is now a large 4 bedroom apartment, yet it's just the three of us living here.
It wasn’t exactly cute that mama grounded me the moment she heard about everything but it's to be expected. Besides, I needed the excuse and the company. A few things still irked me though.
Mama and Anais are still synthetic hybrids and mama couldn’t remember half of what she’d done when Barbie revived her or how she got free from containment. I’d been dragging my feet on questioning her and Zeke, mainly because I didn’t want to go near the prison.
Speaking of prisons, I finally built the hyperdimension prison in secret. I’m not telling anyone where it is as long as I live either.
Mom and Anais have been pampering the hell out of me. Spa days, extravagant meals—the one thing they’ll let Guy in the house for—I love being spoiled. I deserve to be spoiled.
So why do I still feel so shitty about it?
“Oh no you don’t. Get out of your head right this instant young lady.” My mother chastised me with a small smile as we sat on the large plush couch in the middle of the stepdown living room.
I sighed and shrugged.
“Can’t help it mom.” She knows I’m just built differently.
“Yes you can. The day is saved by your boyfriend, you’re pregnant and the city is rebuilding itself. Sit down and rest.”
I flinched at her harsh tone.
“Sapphyra Hart, you—” a knock at the door cut her off. Glancing at the clock, I could see it was close to four in the afternoon. That usually meant the boys would come by.
And that’s my favorite time of day so far.
“I’ll get it!” I said hopping up in a hurry.
“Be careful—”
“Mom,” Anais came out of the kitchen and eyed my mother warily, “let her be.”
That door could not open up fast enough.
There they were, Guy and Erek and Wyatt—released on parole once the truth came to light about his role in the apocalypse. In the end, only Rupert and Barbie were truly charged and convicted of terrorism and war crimes. They sit in a cell right now, guarded by Voss even now.
Bayani is in the wind but I have a feeling he won’t be showing up unless he’s got an army.
Zeke is in the wind too but according to Wyatt, he’s always nearby, just waiting for something. Eventually Wyatt is going to go find the rest of his family with Zeke at his side. They just have to reconcile the fact that Zeke is mated to his uncle's sloppy seconds.
God, this family is a hot mess.
“You gonna stand there all day or invite us inside darlin’?” Erek drawled, carrying a tray of some kind of cookie made from a Drakkir recipe. The warm cinnamon scent made my mouth water.
“Go on and get you some—” I’d already snatched the tray out of his hands and devoured it and the cookies whole.
“Mm.” I pat my soft, rounded belly in satisfaction. By now, I was beyond showing but not quite ready to pop. Dragon pregnancies take longer to gestate than humans.
“I see your appetite hasn’t changed, Princess.” Wyatt gave me a lop-sided grin and adjusted his glasses, voice like velvet.
We’d been exchanging handwritten letters for the past few months and even though he visits me twice a month, it still hits me in the gut when I see him in person.
For just a moment, it was like our wedding day all over again and no one else was in the room but us.
Guy cleared his throat, snapping me out of my daydream.
“Did you forget the civilian in the room?” Guys' smug smile and harsh words put me on high alert.
“Stop it. You know I wasn’t myself that day!” This motherfucker was riding the hell out of my guilt.
“Still hurts.” His pouting lips quickly turn into a wolfish grin. Guy pulls me into his arms and I sigh in peace because it feels like coming home again. Even though we do this every week.
“Ahem.” My mother cleared her throat, making all three men jump and move back just a bit.
I stifled my giggle and covered my smile with my tail. This tiny woman intimidating the hell out of my mates will never not be funny.
“Take it inside please. And leave enough room for the lord to stand between you.” Mama said, brows furrowed, arms crossed like a chaperone at a school prom.
“Sorry mom.” Guy said, hanging his head low.
I hid my snicker at Guy as he glared daggers at me. We all conveyed from the hallway to the living room. Guy and Erek held my hands and eased me down onto the couch.
Having multiple mates definitely has its perks.
Erek sat a few inches to my left and Guy on my right. They gripped their knees and struggled with not touching me.
Wyatt sat near my feet, closer than in the prison cell but still a bit far.
“Mm look at these three simps.” Anais said, walking into the room with two trayfulls of savory steaks covered in hot mushroom gravy.
“Make yourselves useful and feed my little sister.”
I groaned, “Anais I can feed myself.”
“Yes but you have three men waiting on you hand and foot and you're pregnant. Eat and get chubby, you deserve to be pampered little sis.” I blushed when she kissed my cheek and glared at my mates.
“And no sex in here. Whatever relief you give her just gets canceled out by the stress you enact afterwards.”
Wyatt rolled his eyes. Guy ducked his head a little. Erek softly chuckled.
They all knew she was right but it was me asking for space that made them agree.
Later that evening, as I’m watching my loved ones talk and eat at the dining room table, my emotions flooded me again. This time I don’t stop the tears because I’m not sad, I’m happy.
I will always be a hero but that won’t stop me from being a mother or friend or sister. It just gives me more to work for.
“Princess.” Wyatt grabbed my attention. He held a small cloth in his hand and motioned towards my mouth.
“Hm?”
“You’ve got something on your face.” He paused and let out an even breath, spreading his palms against the table. “May I?”
My heart fluttered as I nodded. Pulse pounding in my throat as his touch sent sparks from my face to my core.
It was harmless. It was supposed to be harmless, something loved ones do for each other all the time.
But here and now, it meant so much more. My city and my family were healing and growing.
Wyatt’s smile mirrored my own, he must have had the same thoughts. And just like that…
I knew we were going to be alright. Or close enough at least.
