"The fear is that if he keeps letting people dig like this, they’ll wake the spider up. He and his people can retreat to their rafts, but the people on the island will have no way to escape."

"Did you talk to him?"

"He said he knows what he’s doing, that the island won’t disappear, and that the people on it won’t get hurt."

But as for how much of that was credible, only heaven knew.

Faye Yardley had no good solution for this, either—unless she took out Logan Langdon.
