Grey stared at the screen for several seconds before his grin slowly widened. "Yeah, I’m pretty badass."
Then his eyes drifted past it, and the grin disappeared almost immediately when he finally took in the state Brad and Amara were in.
Brad was sprawled across a shelf of black volcanic stone with his hammer several meters away, blood coating one side of his face while his chest rose in shallow, uneven movements, whereas Amara looked even worse, burns covering most of her exposed skin while deeper wounds remained where she had been forced to let the Infernal Princes’ attacks pass through portions of her body she could no longer afford to phase.
"Ah, shit."
Grey dismissed the screen and crossed the crater in an instant, the Bringer of Light Gloves already unfolding before he landed beside them. White-gold tendrils spilled from his fingers and spread over Brad first, slipping beneath damaged flesh and tracing torn muscle, fractured bone, and internal bleeding before Grey redirected several more toward Amara and began mapping the injuries throughout her body as well.
The response nearly made him stop.
The Gloves had always been absurdly effective once Grey began understanding what Light actually was, but the difference now was ridiculous. His Resonant Frame reached through the tendrils with a degree of precision he had never possessed before, allowing him to feel individual disturbances inside Brad’s body and correct them without wasting nearly as much energy on surrounding tissue, while bone realigned, torn blood vessels sealed, and bruised organs gradually returned toward something resembling normal.
Amara responded just as dramatically, charred skin peeling away beneath fresh tissue while damage Grey normally would have needed several passes to understand became almost embarrassingly obvious through the strengthened connection.
The massive growth of his Resonant Frame after the Goddess fight had already changed the way he interacted with external energy, but seeing that improvement expressed through the Bringer of Light Gloves made the scale much easier to appreciate.
Grey’s eyebrows slowly rose. "Okay, that’s fucking disgusting."
If he ever got around to building a dedicated Resonant Frame mech, healing, remote manipulation, and this sort of precise external influence probably needed to sit near the center of its design. There was too much potential in being able to reach outside himself this cleanly, especially if a future mech could amplify the connection in the same way the new chains were enhancing everything else.
That thought naturally dragged his attention back toward Prometheus.
The little bastard finally had a proper Vessel now, not some improvised bracelet or ancient ring barely anchoring its existence, but a Command Class mech sitting at one hundred percent Sync Rate with enough Energy Reserve. Yet Prometheus itself had only risen to Proving Class, which meant Grey had apparently solved one half of the problem while still having no idea what was actually holding the other half back.
The stranger part was what had happened to Prometheus’ Abilities.
Grey had expected a proper awakening and a perfect Vessel to finally make everything clean, maybe even give him a neat little list explaining where resurrection, stolen Divine abilities, and the rest of Prometheus’ nonsense actually sat. Instead, his status still offered nothing obvious beneath the Frame, leaving Grey with a fully awakened Prometheus and what was supposedly a perfect Vessel, yet somehow even more questions than before.
’So what the hell are you?’
Prometheus floated nearby with the same innocent lack of explanation it usually offered whenever Grey wanted an actual answer.
Grey snorted and returned his attention to the healing just as Brad’s breathing finally deepened. The big man coughed hard enough to spit blood across the stone, blinked several times while his eyes slowly focused, then looked down at the white-gold tendrils moving through his body before glancing up at Grey.
"Wow," Brad rasped. "Glad you finally stopped aura farming long enough to remember the people who saved your ass."
Grey looked offended. "Hey, hey, I was saving you right back."
Brad’s gaze travelled toward the restrained Elementals scattered throughout the crater and then toward the five chains still drifting lazily behind Grey. "Yeah, after letting us get turned into fucking roadkill."
"You looked like you had it handled."
"I feel like I got kicked in the balls. My left nut is fucking aching."
Grey considered that for a moment before nodding sympathetically. "Still got the right one."
Brad immediately started laughing, only to wince halfway through when something inside his chest protested, which naturally made Grey laugh harder at him.
A softer cough came from nearby, and Grey turned as Amara slowly began to regain consciousness. Her eyes narrowed against the glare of the lava before settling on Grey, and for a moment she simply stared at him until whatever memories of the fight were returning seemed to remind her what had happened to most of her clothing.
